Power Rangers Super Megaforce Mid-Season Poll
With the hiatus upon us and no new episodes for a few months, it's time to look back at the season so far and find out what we think. So cast your vote, leave your thoughts, and remember as always to be respectful.

I'd say average. This season has some pretty good moments as well as a lot of pretty bad ones... so it's a mixed bag for me.

My vote goes to "Horrible", sorry SMF fans.
As many know from my constant preaching, Gokaiger is my favourite season of PR/SS combined and I was actually really looking forward to when Power Rangers would adapt it. In fact, part of the reason I began Gokaiger and subsequently Super Sentai was because my partner, a huge PR fan, didn't think it'd ever be adapted and wanted to see all the suits back in action. So when it was announced I got my hopes up. There were very early warning signs, the Goseiger-Gokaiger morph was always going to be a bad idea and with the constant "this actor wasn't asked to return", "this actor turned it down because of how dodgy the request was", etc we knew it wouldn't be a tribute to Power Rangers on the scale that Gokaiger was to Super Sentai, but I still managed to be somewhat hyped for it, even when Megaforce itself was all new kinds of abysmal. But the season itself is just bad. It is literally a Gokaiger fight clip show with added choppy editing and terrible constant dialogue with a few irrelevant civilian scenes in the middle. The plot is almost non-existant and when they do try to give it a plot, they wind up either falling flat (Episodes 1-6) or doing little good accompanied with lots of bad (Episodes 7-8). Its hard to say exactly what is the biggest problem of the season. Is it the horrible editing? The downright awful acting? The Sentai-only rangers appearing with no explanation? The inconsistencies between the clear personality of the suit actors and the personalities of the Megaforce Rangers? The painful writing? The gruelling dialogue? The lacklustre VA work? The lack of a real tribute to anything Power Rangers outside of Gokaiger footage? There's just so many missed opportunities every single episode, despite the fact that making an AWESOME Power Rangers tribute should have been ridiculously easy using the Gokaiger footage. Even the two better episodes (7, 8) only really deserve "Average", because they each come equipped with a huge amount of problems to go with their good. Every single episode is loaded with legitimate complaints against it by everyone paying attention and that is not a good thing. It doesn't help that the most hyped thing about this season is a Legend War with less then half the Rangers outside of Gokaiger footage, either. Its like hyping everyone up for disappointed. So yeah, it is a fail. Comparing it to the absolute worst of Power Rangers does nothing but make them look Shakespearian in comparison. The best thing about Super Megaforce is that its given me a new appreciation of Samurai and Super Samurai because they now have the "it could be worse" excuse. |
The Silver Linings two parter is some of my favourite Power Rangers stuff since RPM but everything about this show is utter garbage. So I'm gonna go for poor, but not all out horrible.

I wanted to give the season an average, but I just couldn't after looking back on it. While it is definitely more watchable than Megaforce, there is still too much bad that is outweighing the good. I will give it to them that each episode is improving on the previous one, but the lazy writing and questionable choices with the stock footage used really leaves something to be desired. The acting seems less robotic this season compared to last, which is a big plus.
I did my best to look at the show without comparing it to Gokaiger. I feel like the writing team makes this more difficult when they decide to basically lift entire Sentai episodes. The Joe/Noah episode is one of the more blatant ones. It just doesn't translate as well as they would like it to. If the writers were a little more future minded they could prepare for these things, but they either choose not too or just can't. |
I voted good. It hasn't been the best season, I know. But I've still enjoyed most of it. I swear to God that watching Doc's suit actor with Jake's VO is going to give me a damned ulcer. And they could work on continuity. "WE HAVE TO FIND ROBOKNIGHT!" "Oh Look, something shiney!"
But overall I enjoyed the season so far. |
I was seriously totally ready to give Super Megaforce a decent rating.
But I've been watching older seasons in tandem (LG, LR and JF) and ... it just doesn't compare. At all. It's like someone employed a child to write and edit it. A child who's only really known about the franchise since Samurai. Considering this is supposed to be a tribute to the whole franchise? Well... Conversely the civilian scenes are actually pretty good. Much better acting than Samurai, but then it's usually completely irrelevant to the rest of the show. It's like they're actually trying to throw as many fight scenes at us as possible in the hope that all the shiny shinies will distract us from the fact that they really didn't want to have to get up early and, you know, write a story? Some stories have been fantastic. I enjoyed the one with Casey, and the aforementioned Joe/Noah nonsense actually held itself together despite how ridiculous of a concept it is... Well, SMF is pretty horrible. I can't deny it. We fans always joke that they must have spent so much money on X that they have none left to pay for experienced writers. Unfortunately I think that might have been the case here. My other thought is they've employed teen drama writers who only write the civ stuff, and have absolutely nothing to with how the full episode ends up. It's the only explanation. |
I say Average cause well Super Megaforce, Spirit of the Tiger and the Silver Lining two parter was great in my opinion. Everything else almost made me wanted to give up on SMF. So yeah!!
|
It's definitely better than the first part of Megaforce, that's for sure.
|
I hate Nick's stupid hiatus thing. But yeah regardless, I find Super Megaforce to be decent so far.
