Finally have netflix tonight so: Currently watching Power Rangers RPM
|
Quote:
Did you get to Jin yet? As for Akomaru, don't cheer to much. |
Just started watching Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger. What an awesome series!
|
Its not a bad series, but it is no where near as good as KakuRanger.
|
I just watched the first episode of Go-onger and I get it now! What fun this episode was! I can finally put my finger on why the episodes of RPM I watched didn't click in my head.
Has there ever been a bigger difference in tone between a Super Sentai and it's Power Rangers adaption? And not in the usual "oh the Sentai was serious and Power Rangers made it all jokey" way, but in a "Power Rangers made this fun Sentai all serious and dark!" :lol |
Wow, I just finished the last episode of Shinkenger, and from what I saw, I would have been ok if the entire show was done with them cast being unmorphed, they were as convincing as the suit actors, bittersweet but a great ending!
|
I'm up to the first episodes with Kou on Dairanger. He's... honestly, I'm kind of ambivalent. On the one hand, he's incredibly annoying, very bratty, and it's actually kind of creepy watching him keep groping Rin (especially since this isn't a cartoon - it's actually a real ten-year-old boy grabbing a real adult woman's breast - ick). On the other hand, though, it seems like there is some emotional core to the character that could be developed into something pretty cool. I guess it's all going to depend on whether or not Kou's childishness gets toned down as the series progresses.
And what the crap is up with the weird kid covered in buttons? Is it supposed to be like a kiddy version of the usual Gouma zippertastic fetish gear or something? |

I'm about half way through Dairanger and I must say that it's the best sentai series I've seen so far.

Well I finally watched the last 15 episodes of Nihon's DaiRanger release the other night. It is nice to finally understand everything being said to a t for the entire series, and it was even more magnificient that way. Add on top that the last 11 episodes of the show do not contain any filler (if you consider the subplots filler though, then last 8 episodes), and you have another reason as to why this show is my favorite Sentai series of all time.
|
I just finished Go-Onger minutes ago(with the exception of Geki vs Go-On, I still need to watch that). Overall it was a really enjoyable show, but I feel it suffered in the endgame by taking to long to introduce the Prime Minister and he wasn't too interesting. I'm really tempted by the promos to just move straight into Shinkenger but I've been planning for a while to watch Garo once I finished Go-Onger.

If you like Devil May Cry and/or Onimusha, Garo is a must watch.

As for Garo vs Shinkenger, that's a tough one. Both are good. If you have seen Samurai recently, don't watch Shinkenger YET. Let those awful memories fade first or it will feel like you've seen this before for the first half. If you decide Garo, finish through episode 7 at the very least. If the show hasn't clicked for you by then it might not be for you. On a side note, the current Garo series will probably be over before you catch up (unless you do some hardcore marathoning). If I had to choose, I'd go with Garo. I enjoy both greatly, but there is no episode of Garo I regret watching. Shinkenger, other the other hand had a few awful episodes and "the movie" is one of the worst things I've seen in Toku. But again both are good and well worth a watch. PS Donnot watch Garo at work and/or school. It has nudity and death...and that's just the first scene. |
Well the reason I compare Garo with DMC and Onimusha is because:
1. The camera angles remind me a lot of DMC. 2. Kouga dresses like Dante. 3. Kouga's armor makes me think of Devil Trigger Mode 4. The designer for Onimusha (Amemiya) is the designer for Garo 5. Kiba reminds me of Nero Angelo, just without the brother aspect 6. The music makes me think of DMC The only thing Garo is missing is someone shouting, "I am Gogandantes (or whomever his name would be), the greatest swordsman of the demon world." OH yeah, I am talking about the original DMC series, not this new Twilight May Cry garbage coming out soon. BTW, there is no contest, Garo beats Shinkenger out by light years. Even Makai, which is half as good as the first Garo series, is better than Shinkenger. |

But yes, watch Garo. Everybody needs to watch Garo at some point in their lives. |
I have seen the first 2 episodes already and will watch Garo. I'm going to attempt to watch at least 2 episodes a day to be caught up in time for the finale. Plus like Blade Raider suggested, I should probably wait until I've got Samurai out of my system.
|
Go-Busters. Only 3 episodes in and I already like this series a lot more then Gokaiger. I'm probably the only sentai fan happy that series is over.
|
I have gotten up to just before the movie in Gokaiger, and thus put it on hold to finish watching Boukenger. I am really digging Boukenger, moreso than Gokaiger which is (at this point anyway) sort of mired in doing homages, though the introduction of Basco was cool.
The only part I don't like about Boukenger is Shizuka; she's extremely irritating and obnoxious. I don't mind Yaiba or Gekkou, and the other baddies (Gajah and the Jaryuu Tribe) are both very appealing, but Shizuka puts my teeth on end. |
OH god, Shizuka is annoying as hell. However, just wait until BoukenSilver comes in, the show goes starts to go downhill with his introduction.
|
Started watching Dairanger and while I'm liking it so far, TV-Nihon's partial translations (which are worse than usual) aren't doing me any favours. To anyone who's watched most of if not all of their version, do the subs get better as it goes on? Am curious because the early episodes look like they were done a while ago and it could just be a case of early Nihon I guess.
I'd rather not download an entirely new set of episodes unless I really have to. |

Other than that, though, I've found the TVN subs to be reasonably satisfactory. And I'm saying that as someone who prefers full and localized translations over the more literal style TVN uses. |
That's good then, I should be able to keep up with their version then since I've managed for most of their other releases. Thanks for the response.

Just started watching Go-Onger and finished up episode 8. This is my first, non-anniversary season Sentai.
And I think the idea of talking Zords is both hilarious and awesome. :lol |

Here: Kenpō (拳法?) is the name of several Japanese martial arts. The word kenpō is a Japanese translation of the Chinese word "quánfǎ. This term is often informally transliterated as "kempo", as a result of applying Traditional Hepburn romanization,[1] but failing to use a macron to indicate the long vowel. The generic nature of the term combined Developed in 1932 by Muneomi Sawayama, the art places an equal emphasis on striking techniques using hands and feet, immobilization and controls, projections and take-downs. |

I'd suggest getting the next episode you have from both groups, watch both, and decide which you like better. As for "kenshi" and "kenpou"...Those are the first 2 Jin episodes if I'm remembering right (Awesome character, by the way). I don't think the subs I watched used those terms very much if at all. I can't remember the wording, but Jin was using a speciality fighting style and Ryou was training to counter it. Considering whatever they're showing is probably not the real style anyways, that's all that you need to know and I thought their subs got that across well enough. I haven't seen TV-N's sub of the episodes, so can't say weather they got the point across as well. PS If you have to explain it, it's not well subbed. Just saying. |
Yeah, I flicked through the HON/H-S sub too and wasn't completely satisfied with that either (am I right in saying they kept RyuRanger etc, but translated RyuuseiOh? That kinda bugs me) but being bombarded with a wall of text sounds pretty appealing right now. It was kinda the last straw when I saw the word "spear" in Japanese and then at the top "TL Note: Spear" :lol
Will take your advice and watch my next episode (which will be 6) with both and see which I prefer :) |
i started up on dairanger again, i had watch most of it but forgot where i was so just stared over =P

Is "You cannot face him as a single kenshi" in any way a clearer translation than "You cannot face him alone"? Is there something wrong with "we need to learn a new attack to defeat him" that's corrected by "we need to learn a new kenpou to defeat him"? I'm not a big TVN fan anymore, but I can usually just accept that some people prefer them and move on. But come on, it's not like these are even terms that can't be directly translated or approximated in English. :rolleyes |
Started watching Go-busters On a regular basis now thanks to Sentai Tamaishi. Liking the crossovers of gundam and TF themes for this one. The suits are great too. So simplistic. it totaly works. the buddy roids remind me of Go-onger whitch is a good thing.

I made myself watch a few more episodes of Dekaranger last week, and I think I'm finally okay with the tone of the show. It's still a little sillier than I would like, but I'm getting over it. My biggest problem with it is that up until a couple episodes ago, I didn't really care about any of the characters. But I'm starting to, a little bit.
Still watching Gokaiger really slowly too. It's sometimes sillier than I would like, but I really like the team, so it doesn't bother me nearly as much. |
Watching the Philippine English dub of Bioman. Damn, this is more violent than I remembered.
|
i watch whole zyuranger ep 22 on dailymotion - [17 ep to 22 ep footage for green with evil mini saga]

i see now crazy mad doc chaseing blue alien ranger and attack of killing cothes |
Just started watching the Harorangers subs of Carranger. I am pleasantly surprised! The show is goofy, there's no doubt about that, it was meant to be a bit of a parody. But it really works, very well actually. Dappu is annoying but fun, and the complete lack of interest in being heroes really makes the Carrangers themsleves fun. "We just wanted to build our dream cars but all we've got is these models!"
|
31 episodes and two movies into Shinkenger... Been meaning to watch the show for a long time, and just been having a marathon the last few days.
