Saban Brands Extends Use of "Power Rider" Trademark
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone remember when Saban Brands filed a trademark use for the term Power Rider, and rampant speculation began that Saban was going to adapt a Kamen Rider series in the United States?
Well, in short, nothing ever came of it. The rumor mills thought that because of the crossover footage in Shinkenger (Power Rangers Samurai) with Kamen Rider Decade that Saban was planning to use that footage and then spin-off the appearance with Kamen Rider Decade as Power Rider. Again, nothing ever came of it. Thanks to our friends at Firestarter's Blog we know that Saban Brands has once again filed for, and was granted, the use of the name Power Rider. Will anything come of it this time? A popular thought here at TokuNation was that Saban would adapt over the Kamen Rider Fourze series. While unpopular with adults, the series was popular with the younger demographic and the amount of sales generated from the roleplay gear, etc., more than proves that the merchandise sold very well. Take in to effect that the setting is high school with teenagers, and the overall easy-to-tie-in merchandise, it still seems like a no-brainer. Speculate away, Tokusatsu fans! Power Rangers, or Super Sentai, is based off Kamen Rider, but with a "team" aspect as opposed to a "lone hero". There's been two attempts at true adaptions of Kamen Rider here in the United States: - Masked Rider (which was done by Saban back during Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) - Kamen Rider Dragon Knight (I forget the brothers who brought it over, but they tried to stay semi-true to the source material but it just didn't work out, never caught on in terms of popularity, and tanked in the ratings bad enough that the CW cut the final 3 episodes and they were only available online) A proper and dedicated attempt could pay off and prove to be extremely popular. |
I'd think they'd bring over OOO before Fourze, however both are ripe with merchandising potential. I just hope they never do W in America, as I feel that's just one series that can't be done right in English. I just can't imagine that show without the dynamic between Philip and Shotaro, and doing the same thing with English actors would just seem cheap (just my opinion).

With only 2 characters, at least that means there will be 2 decent-good figures to buy rather than 13 crappy ones like with Dragon Knight.
Also, the Fourze Driver already speaks in English. Maybe there won't be much need to change it... |
I would also hope for OOO first...then we could possibly get a mass of Head/Torso/Leg parts that would be interchangeable. Collect multitudes of each to create all of OOO possible forms :D

I honestly hope for OOO. OOO or Fourze. or Decade!

How will they account for the fact that Amanogawa is a very Japanese high school with Japanese students? Fourze shows us more of daily Japanese life than most Super Sentai series, and I think this would make a lot of footage difficult to use.
