As far as I understand it the ratings are about as low as Kyoryugers were.

What saved Kyoryuger though was toy sales, so hopefully that happens with ToQ.

Honestly, I think Kyoryuger's ratings have proven they mean nothing these days. Most people watch their shows later via online or DVR, neither of which count towards the ratings of shows.

I have to wonder if the ratings also reflect a smaller population of kids in Japan?

From what I've been told, kids still watch Super Sentai and love it. While the older fans stop caring for the newer shows years ago. No different how PR fans are here in the US.
Kamen Rider does better in ratings and toy sales because it's more mainstream in Japan. Kamen Rider is view as a show for older kids while Sentai is view as a kiddie show in Japan from what I've been told. |

It's the toys sales that matters to Toei. Someone must be watching the shows on TV if the toys sell well. I doubt people will buy the toys and not watch the shows.
We will find out how well the toy sales for ToQger are by next year. If they did poorly then Saban might skip ToQger. If the toy sales are good then get ready for a PR version of ToQger in 2017-2018. |
