I like how Mothra is redesign to show her being more capable of combat.

Those are all damn fantastic. King G and Rodan both look spot-on and Mothra's slight redesign makes her look intimidating.

Huh... I actually feel very conflicted about these. On one side, it's amazing that they go all-in with the monsters. They could’ve played it safe and just made another Godzilla.
On the other side... I'm waiting for MonsterArts to finally die. It's doing basically nothing these days and the bad QC is still too relevant for me to get excited over the few new announcements there are. I feel like Godzilla is long overdue to enter the Figuarts-line like Ultraman did. Of course, popularity is a factor I cannot judge properly, apparently Ultraman sells better than Godzilla (mostly because Ultraman is more of an active franchise these days) but still: The way for future Godzilla-figures should be Figuarts. The Aliens and Monsters from Ultraman they made as Figuarts were far better than any modern MonsterArts-release. I want the same care and attention to detail for Godzilla figures. As far as these particular releases go, while I'm glad they exist, I don’t think they are that good as action figures. Ghidorah with these clamps that support the wings looks dumb and the only articulated parts are the necks and basic joints at the legs - really? The others don't look that exciting either. They are all more statues than anything else. |

But on the other side of that, Godzilla has more of a world-wide presence and market. Though both have their own stores. With the Godzilla store being bigger, but merchandise surges in sales are definitely around movie years. As cultural icons though, both are engrained in Japan for the natural conveyance of internal nation fears and hopes, as well as how those have grown and evolved over the years. With their respective media acting as a kind of barometer of climate. I'd say give monster arts some time to really try what they want to do, but toy techniques are an ever evolving thing in finding the right approach for Kaiju like creations. Different ones call for different emphasis which is where a lot of that experimentation comes from. Plus Toho is very particular about their baby. |

Legendary Godzilla, still to this day looks just right, Mothra looks beautiful and lethal, Rodan feels more like a red wyvern than a red pterodactyl and I am digging that, and King-G is just... to quote Ice Cube, "drippin' swagoo".
And yes I am aware his son will be in this movie.

I meant Ice Cube's actual son, actor O'Shea Jackson Jr, but that works too I guess.
