I think its becuase the tech Ignis is using is corrupted by dark energy and he is fused with trigger darks energies to become its host. Essentially himself a hybrid kaiju, so it wouldnt be too far out of the realm of possibility for him to use kaiju keys through the power of dark trigger to augment himself further. Kengo is still pure Trigger, i doubt that Ultras can corrupt themselves with kaiju DNA. Even X couldn't, he used Cyber versions of kaiju to become armor rather than augmemt with actual kaiju DNA. I believe thats one of the tropes of Ultra, that the villains can advance their biology by breaking the boundaries of their own DNA through fusions facilitated by dark energies, usually Belials. Who knows maybe we'll get an explanation, like this universes Rayblood, maybe not.

This episode is just action from literally the first second. It's awesome. Trigger got wrecked by everyone, geez. The shot of him getting thrown into a building from inside the building is great. I'll never get tired of that stuff. Orga taking the fight underground (briefly) was also cool. I like Metsu-Orga and his goofy laugh. But then it turns out that's just a Larval stage and goddamn Orochi hatches out of it. I like when they recolour monsters, it adds some variety so we're not seeing EXACTLY the same monsters all the time. Orochi looks especially snazzy in blue. Ignis' plan for revenge against Hudram certainly didn't go to... plan. I hope he learns to control his powers and we get a good Dark Trigger. |

For those who want a transformation item that doesn’t require a gimmick.

and the return of a couple of my favorite New Generation monsters, Metsu-Orga and Maga Orochi (with a new color scheme!). The former, because I like the charm of it's design and it's very Showa Monster style design, just a really unique monster that deserves some love, and the latter, being perhaps one of my all-time favorites, and the new color palette looks great.
Also, (though I don't think many people care) The Netflix Ultraman Anime Season 2 airs Spring of next year. I'm looking forward to it, though I hope they stick closer to the Manga and not add things that contradict themselves later down the road. |

Reminds me of Hordak from MOTU for some reason.

Metsu-Orochi is so powerful they have to use an untested weapon just to petrify the thing, and that takes the Nursedessei out from the sheer power. I guess that about balances out. Gargorgon doesn't mess around.
I love how Yuna is down and Kengo tries to cheer her up with a "Smile Smile" and they pan to the rest of the team and The Captain and Nanase have the same stoic expressions. Like, you can tell they're supporting her in their own way but they can't really smile. Even Akito smiles. I thought Ignis just dressed like a pirate but it turns out his people just have an eclectic fashion sense. Also, pretty rough that Hudram seemingly stole the life from them and turned them into stone. Could they be saved after they defeat Hudram? The Captain attacking Metsu-Orochi with the ground troops was pretty epic, but Kengo and Yuna firing actual machineguns was...weird. Ignis being reminded of what happened to his people as he sees people fleeing from the monster is enough to drive him to attack Metsu-Orochi as Trigger Dark, although that ends up inciting a wide-spread attack that takes out Guts-Selects' main plan with the Guts-Falcon so... And just when you think the Guts-Falcon is going to be useless again, Kengo pilots the thing manually, dodges all its blasts somehow with no flight training, and actually manages to hit Metsu-Orochi straight in the horn with the missile. That was pretty epic. Too bad Trigger Dark then just attacks the Guts-Falcon indiscriminately. Then Carmearra shows up to kill Kengo (how does no one hear her yelling his name?), although Trigger Dark steals her attention away long enough for Trigger to finish Metsu-Orochi while dual wielding, which was honestly pretty cool. Of course then Carmearra is still wearing to go and Glitter Trigger Eternity fades off...and then Carmearra gets flirty...and even Tigger Dark gaining the Sky Arrow and using a Finisher against Carmearra isn't enough to fully stop her. Although the Guts-Select team standing by to protect Trigger is enough to inspire Dargon to ward Carmearra, off, although honestly I think they would probably have taken them. The team figure out Ignis is Trigger Dark and lock him up, while being unable to obtain the power to defeat a Dark Giant means Ignis has just about given up. |

"Ignis... Ignis... You're endangering the mission, Ignis."
While I do feel the Metsu-Orochi fight was a little too short (though Trigger dual wielding was sick), this was a really good episode. We got to see GUTS Select fight outside the Nursedessei and got to see Trigger and Dark fight "together." The part where Kengo takes control of the GUTS Falcon reminded me of Godzilla X Mechagodzilla, which I really enjoyed, though it did sideline the other GUTS Select members (again). It was also nice to see some extra hands for the team, even if they're just red shirts, but it gives some scale to the TPC. If people were wondering what would happen in a Shin Godzilla sequel, this is the closest we'll get to that. But in all seriousness, even if we won't be seeing Trigger Dark for a while, we got to see some flashbacks to Ignis' planet and got to go out with a bang (especially when he snatched the Circle Arms), love that he still retains a bit of that charm from the early episodes, albeit only in gestures when he gets caught. It's definitely fair to say we haven't seen the last of him as Trigger Dark. I love how Dargonn is now the heart and soul of the Dark Giants, seeing as he's more calmer and less reckless (unless you count the time he went rogue in an attempt to woo Yuna earlier in the season) than Hudram and now Carmy Tart (I'm just messing around with her name now), who's out for blood. Surprised she didn't lose it when she saw Ignis as Trigger Dark. Next Episode: The Captain got promoted! Everyone's happy! What could go wrong? I'm assuming that she's still speaking in Ultra-language.
