I've thought about this a lot. How much are you actually willing to pay? Because while candy toy figures are really nice for the price-point, I think they are cutting profits pretty close and fully painting them would put their cost close enough to a full fledged figure, or definitely out of impulse territory.
But hey I actually think it might happen. The Minipla line started out very barebones and now they are some of the best representations of their figures available anywhere --- but this definitely comes at a cost; the rebranded Shokugan Modeling Project "candy toys" are nearly $100 for each kit. SO-DO figures have been improving a lot every year in paint apps and articulation and I could see the SO-DO Chronicle line doing more to cover the backs. In fact, SO-DO Gaim was surprisingly covered. My dream upgrade would actually be compound eyes, but that would definitely never happen. |

All my Zero-One So-Do is stored away, so I can't check right now, but I feel like in Zero-One the backs had more paint than the do in Saber. Now we don't even get stickers for the full belt loop to the back like we used to. Seems to be an unfortunate cost of the front of the figures having drastically more paint than in Zero-One. (Unless if I'm totally misremembering and Zero-One was just as bad, in which case the increase in paint is just another part of G-San's ongoing war against Bandai's budget regulations)

I don't own any SO-DO but I really like painting so I wouldn't mind if the back's not painted.
Of course that's probably just me.

Speaking of painting backs, when I got MBJR I decided to attempt to paint the chest because I didn't like the look of the sticker and it seemed like a fun. Ended up painting the whole back to. There's more I could paint, but I used the rest of the stickers and I don't want to peel them right now.
Now if I could just get a Zero-One pointing hand in purple and Horobi's sword for it. Last edited by Blade Raider; 05-18-2021 at 11:29 PM.. |

AmiAmi just put up pre-orders for YU-DO Zenkaiger Wave 2; and while no specifics are confirmed yet it seems to be the same price as Wave 1 and has 9 types!!
https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=GOODS-04128057 That last part is REALLY surprising to me because you've gotta consider what would be in this. The base Zenkaigers needed extra boxes because three of their members are just that bulky, but this time around? TwoKaiser should only really need the one box; and so would theoretical Stacaesar, Zenkai Red and mooks (plus the accessory pack). I imagine they'd also do Twokaiser's Ohran and Shinken forms here whichever way they do it would still leave boxes left over. I hope I'm not setting myself up for a fall here because right now the confirmation of that many types has me very excited...

SHODO-X wave 13 will be this
Den-O Sword Form Den-O Plat Form Machine Denbird A-SIDE Machine Denbird B-SIDE Zeronos Altair Form Zeronos Zero Form Expansion parts set https://www.bandai.co.jp/candy/produ...627685000.html What's great is that if you get both Zeronos figures you can probably justify it by saying the Zero form is Yuuto and the Altair form is Sakurai. What sucks is that no broom. Seriously, WHY ARE YOU IGNORING THE BROOM BANDAI.
