Mine comes from childhood. Friends use to make up super heroes and we tended to stick with certain names for our characters. I can't remember where I got "Blade" from, but I do remember adding "Raider" after watching an episode of Spider-Man where Blade appeared because I wasn't about to mistaken for a ****ing vampire. I totally hated vampires before it was cool! Why Raider? It had a nice ring to it.
...of course, years later I realized it's easy to mistake "Blade Raider" for "Blade Runner." Oh well, at least I have nothing to do with vampires! |

I forget when I began using mine, but I've always been a Pokémon fan. I remember in the older games, the option to switch pokémon read "pkmn" all diagonal and stuff. Among me and my friends, I was always the most knowledgeable about Pokémon, so I took a liking to "Pokémon Master" I remembered the abbreviation and just decided to take the vowels out of Master also. Now on some sites, people have taken it already, in which case I add 90(year of birth) to the end.

I used 'theblueman' as a name on IRC for years, based on a character I created as a kid. Then The Blue Man Group became huge and everybody asked if it was based on that and I got sick of it. So I just started substituting different words for 'man', like 'bluecifer', 'bluemanchurian', and 'bluesparrow'(I like the word 'sparrow'). Then I had to sign up on a message board and used the latter, then carried it over to other boards I signed up for. Cut to several years later and Pirates of the Caribbean comes out and people ask me if it's named after Jack Sparrow. I stopped caring by that point though.

Blade's comment reminded me of the normal name I go with when playing a game with only a few slots for a name.
"Snaks" I honestly have no idea where that came from, but it stuck.

I went over this on Rangerboard recently, but I'll explain again...
Back in 99 when I started playing online first person shooters on my own without an rl friend, I got into Team Fortress Classic, a mod for Half-life. One day, I was playing on a random server, and came to find out that it was owned by a group of people in a clan called Joe Satriani that competed in leagues online seriously. I took to it, and tried out. They let me in, and I found out everyone's name was after a Joe Satriani song, a badass guitar player. The leader was [JS]Ice9 after the song Ice 9. I took [JS]TheSnake after that song. After a bit, I listened to more of his songs and became a fan of the song Raspberry Jam Delta-V instead. I talked to the leader and changed my name to [JS]RaspberryJamDelta-V. He nicknamed me Raz because of the long name. A girl in the clan called me Jam. Another guy called me Rasp all the time. I just kept the name raz after the clan fell apart, and have kept it for the last 14 years online. Most of the time, it's taken and I have to use raz1337 or on Twitter razzle1337 since people have called me razzle in the past. Working with that clan taught me a lot about teamwork, friendship, sportsmanship, fun, and just dealing with people in general. I like looking back on those memories a lot.

You know, I've seen you on TFW, but I never made that connection. Clever.

I was thinking of making this thread a few days back, but I figured it wasn't a good idea or my place to do so.
Anyway, my name came from the Matrix. Sorta. When the Matrix first came out and then the games thereafter, we all picked names based on characters. Everyone picked a name already taken and as a fan of originality, I chose Cache (because I have great memory) and Syntax (the definition of being a specific structure of the subject at hand) and when combined, it was CacheSyntax or, the specific structure of short term memory. Unfortunately, not long after that my email was hacked with that user name, so I gave up on it and switched to MnemonicSyntax instead, being the specific structure of memory triggers, because again I apparently have an excellent memory. I'm also that name everywhere. Email, forums, Steam, the Facebook, etc. etc. Quote:
