👀👀👀 I dig it... Like wow, even GUTS is back, so this really is gonna be like Tiga 2! (Technically Tiga 3 since Dyna was kinda like Tiga 2 but you get what I mean...)
I'm genuinely and pleasantly surprised by Trigger's design and his various forms. They feel a bit more streamlined in term of details and bits stuck on him compared to Z and Taiga, so he actually does look like he could have come from a 2000s era show, at least in my eyes! |

I am loving those suits, especially Power Type. Also digging the transformation device with its USB sticks. It’s nice to see a new Ultra who has his own powers and forms again. Definitely looking forward to this.

Having a hard time getting into this. It's okay, but... I dunno, something's Off. It doesn't feel like Tiga at all for one thing, and it doesn't help that this is maybe the worst DX changer voice I've ever heard. Theme is nice though

Like I said in another thread, I think this is more of a Zenkaiger approach but with Tiga.

I kinda liked it because – and this will be a very niche reference – but it reminds me of the deliberately(?) cheesy narrator trailers for games developed by Inti Creates always use, and uh... I think it might actually literally be the same guy!
I didn't really know any of this until I looked it up just now, but apparently the guy in question, Maxwell Powers, is a crazy prominent Japan-based American voice actor, particularly for commercials and the like, who even voiced both Mebius and Max in The Absolute Conspiracy's English dub, and sure enough, that definitely sounds like the same voice to me. That uh, that knowledge obviously probably won't improve anyone's opinion on the dude's vocal talents, but if we're holding that dub against the actors, it would also mean saying the Mega Ulorder from Kamen Rider Ghost wasn't awesome, so let's not maybe not do that. Oh, right, and there's a whole new Ultraman to be talking about, too, isn't there? Putting the voice aside for a second, I utterly adore that gun. Very simple design, with a straightforward and striking transformation gimmick. Good stuff. I'm not a huge fan of Trigger himself right away, because I think the continued problem New Generation Ultras have with creating distinctive designs is only compounded by having one based off what I consider to be one of the all-time best toku hero designs ever – and part of what makes Tiga's design so strong is how strikingly different it was from what had come before. But you know, he still looks nice, like they always do, so I think I'll get used to it. The sword thingie is also neat for the same reasons as the gun. That's maybe about all I can say for now, especially as someone who's yet to watch Tiga. End of the day, though, it's another New Generation Ultraman show, which essentially means it's another guaranteed home run. I have no doubts I'll be way into Trigger as soon as it premieres.

Latest milestone has achieved. I am now done with the 6 Ultraman Brothers. Overall, Ultraman Taro is a big improvement over Ultraman Ace. Still had its shortcomings, but I enjoyed watching it more than Ace and didn't feel forcing myself to watch it till the end. Now tonely, this felt like watching the original Ultraman, except more whimsical. I kept hearing this was the goofiest Ultra series, but it wasn't really. Unlike the goofy episodes made in the past where it clashed heavily with the series as a while, I was looking forward to the goofy side of Taro as it was made so on purpose. But to my surprise, it still had many serious and sometimes dark moments that matches the previous entries, sometimes even more serious. For example the episodes where children lose their parents actually lose them for good instead of an asspull where they turned out alive and well by the end of the episode. Didn't expect that from taro. Speaking of being lighter, I liked there were a handful of episodes where the monsters live as sometimes I felt there was no need to kill some of the monsters when the conflict is caused by a misunderstanding which gave more personality to Taro; and Ultra willing to spare the monsters instead of eliminating them as his first instinct. ZAT was a big improvement over MAT and TAC. Overlooking the silly looking uniforms and vehicles, they were more competent than the 2 teams combined and actually took their job seriously instead of treating every report like a joke or childish lie which was something that heavily annoyed me in Return and Ace. The members were mostly one-noted and didn't have the same dynamic that I liked in Return, but were still more memorable than TAC's members. Another big improvement over Ace? the monsters are more creative and unique looking which was refreshing after Yapool's boring Terrible Monsters and many of them had amusing personalities to like them enough to wish them no harm. Sadly the effects and costumes weren't that big of an improvement. It's more noticeable with returning characters with Mefilas's costume to Ultraseven missing his ears. However there were episodes where they had good explosion budget like in episode "The Phantom Mother is a Monster". Fight scenes were severely toned down compared to Ace as Taro doesn't chop his enemies to pieces and no jaw ripping, and there were some instances of Taro reviving the monsters he killed and spared their lives. A little taste of Cosmos maybe? The Birdon 3-parter is obviously among the best and most memorable parts of the series, so for another favorite episode, I'll go with "The Vampire Flower is a Girl's Spirit" for being one of the creepiest episodes in the series. Other favorite is the Land of Ultra 2-parter. The ending was a bit anti-climactic but fits the Fairy tale theme of the series, plus it gave us and expanded lore piece. Least favorite is sadly going to the Temperor 2-parter. I did not like how the Brothers were portrayed here as uber jerks who would let Taro die just to see if he can protect Earth on his own. |

Just finished watching Ultraman Story. I know it's usually seen as just a stock footage film but it's not as bad as let's say All Monsters Attack. It can still works as a decent Taro story without them, although the discrepancies happens when they integrate Taro's footage which creates huge plot holes to the main series. Other than that, it's an okay Taro prequel story.
