Just finished watching Ebirah, Horror of the Deep AKA Godzilla vs The Sea Monster. Most people bash on this movie for being slow and not featuring a lot of Godzilla action, but I actually loved it. It's basically an adventure film about people stuck on a mysterious island, and they happen to bump into Godzilla along the way. Definitely one of my favorite Godzilla films, and incredibly underrated. I'm not sure how people can bash on this movie but celebrate Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster when it has all of the same problems, except the human story in that film doesn't have nearly as fun of a human story, and all the spy stuff has almost nothing to do with the monster rumble.

Space Sheriff Gavan Episode 15: Yeah MFC wasn't kidding this episode is a gigantic long fight scene. Which is absolutely amazing because of A) The fighting is one of the best parts of the show and B) This was the best plan I've seen from Makuu because of how bad they wanted to succeed in killing Gavan they threw everything except the kitchen sink at Gavan. It was wave after wave of enemies for Gavan. They even had a great plan to trap him too. This was one of the best episodes of Gavan because of it. Retsu really outdid himself with fighting off all those enemies, and then continues to go fighting the Double Monster in Makuu space even with fighting with Dol too. Amazing episodes from both Gavan and Makuu and I definitely can't wait for more.

I'm up through episode 8 of Zubat, which features some of the most glorious over-the-top quirky acting I've seen in quite some time. I have no idea what the director or actor were thinking, but the blind swordsman's body language and facial expressions were entrancingly bizarre.
The episode also started with Hayakawa randomly riding around on the raised shovel of a shovel dozer, playing his guitar and singing the Dead Asuka Song. I freaking love this show. The one thing I have to note, though, is that my least favorite part of the show is the actual Zubat scenes. Hayakawa is such a fun and engaging character that I like watching him far more than his alter ego. |

Space Sheriff Gavan Episode 16: The boy being from Planet Lake and being a scientist was intriguing. The action was fantastic once again especially with Kasumi the android protecting the boy was awesome too. Gavan is awesome like normal. Just another protect the kid episode. I can't wait for more though this was an alright episode.

UltraMan Episode 1: Well it's nice to see in about 50 years that the formula for UltraMan still works, with having a team fighting against the monsters. The biggest thing I didn't know was that Tachibana from Kamen Rider was in this series too, I guess he's the actor to get if you want to start a franchise off right. Well I definitely see the references that both UltraMan the Next and UltraMan X did to this series right from the beginning which is awesome. Well I enjoyed meeting UltraMan and Hayata, UltraMan wants to protect the Earth and Hayata is the confident pilot so I like them both right now. I loved Akiko believing in that Hayata was alive and the Captain was good too. The fight scenes were pretty good too for the 60's. I am really enjoying it right now, so as we begin the 50th Anniversary of UltraMan, I will continue this series.
UltraMan Episode 2: The hell why haven't I heard more about this! This was fantastic. I totally loved finally seeing the Baltan alien and wondering what the heck that was for the longest time. So Shin is awesome and I enjoyed him trying to talk to the Baltan and try and find a peaceful way to handle this situation. I love that he got the Beta Capsule knocked out of his hand early and actually jumped for it, he is a crazy man lol. Captain Tachibana (I know not the character's name but what he is to me lol.) I loved how he was defending the peaceful plan and not the nuke the hell out of it plan. The other supporting characters are fun I love the one who talked to the audience that was a fun scene. The Baltan's plight was intriguing it didn't need to get violent it was just that he wanted to take over Earth not co-exist which was the problem. Great aerial battle here too. I am really enjoying this and can't wait for more. UltraMan Episode 3: Well I have to feel that I want to blame Hoshino for half the crap that happened here for kind of waking up the monster but it seems like the Monster was going to wake up anyways. Still this was a little too much Hoshino for my liking. Anyways, The Science Patrol I am loving how they track down and figure out the monster's habits and figuring out about it wanting electricity. Well I know all the teams names by now so I am liking them all from that is a good sign. Shin is still my favorite just with his confidence and intelligence and well being the UltraMan Host. The combat was great I love the Original UltraMan's more grappling/wrestling style of fighting how he goes more for grabs here. I loved how he grabs the monster by the head and slams it across his knee that looked painful. As well as lifting the monster up and spinning him around then throwing him. Also when he took the monster's attack in the beginning like it was nothing and then pounded his chest was brilliant, he was like that tickled lol. I will say that Hoshino is a bit brash and brave so the kid's got heart I'll see how it goes with him and all the Science Patrol as I watch more. Which I can't wait for. UltraMan Episodes 4 and 5: Both better episodes. Episode 4 was a lot better for Hoshino, this kid is definitely brave I'll give him that with being a distraction for Ragon. Ide I love as comedic relief he's fun. Arashi was pretty awesome in Episode 5 fighting against the plant monster and trying his hardest to defeat it because it felt it was his responsibility. I really love the Science Patrol the all work hard to find these monsters and assess the threats and save people's lives. Like Akiko clearing out the resort she was at when Ragon was attacking. The Captain is very intelligent and a great leader he's showing here. I love Hayata very confident and intelligent with solving the mystery with the plant monster in episode 5. I also love his protective nature with making sure to get the bomb before it hit the ground against Ragon and taking Arashi to safety so he could transform against the Plant Monster. Also that even with his time limit running out he got rid of the bomb too that was great. He is also caring as well with making sure Hoshino and the other's belief that UltraMan didn't die from the bomb exploding too. Well I can't wait for more, I didn't know what to expect from this show but it's been a lot better than I thought. UltraMan Episode 6: Well this show really likes to focus on Hoshino doesn't it? Well I mean the kid helped stop Smugglers here so he's doing good. I just care more for the parts with the Science Patrol who all kind of shined here this episode especially fighting against Gesura when Hayata went missing. I liked that Hayata and Akiko were worried about the kids too I like how much they care. Also I liked that Hayata was worried about what was going on in the ocean as well with the giant shark being attacked. Gesura was an interesting fish monster and I'm glad that UltraMan didn't kill it that he was able to force it back was great. Also that Hayata stopped Gesura and the Smugglers was fun too. The action is really fun too this was a nice match between them. I am really enjoying the show I'm just hoping the Science Patrol ends up getting more screen time than Hoshino in more of the episodes coming up next for me. Well still I can't wait for more.

I have this small pile of DVDs I bought dirt cheap nearly a decade ago from a closing Movie Gallery. I only watched one or two of them before they just got mixed in with my movie shelf and never watched. I've been sitting around sick for a few days though and decided to try them out. Holy crap was Bloodrayne a bad movie. Sheesh.
After that disaster, I popped in Godzilla Final Wars. I don't know if its considered a good movie or not, but yes! I loved everything about that movie. Especially the ex-wrestler dude speaking English the whole time. (That took some getting used to. For some reason my ill brain didn't initially understand him because it was tuning out the Japanese and waiting for subtitles.) I've never really watched any Godzilla before. Saw a few minutes of one of the older ones years ago before I got bored and tried fast-forwarding to monster footage. That was largely because I was going in with the wrong expectations. It had just the right levels of camp, action, and dudes in rubber suits that I was thoroughly happy with it. |

Final Wars is a fun movie to just kick back and enjoy, but really isn't Godzilla at it's finest.

I noticed Crackle had Godzilla 2000 and Wikipedia claimed the dub was actually a slightly better movie due to fixed pacing issues. I only got about 2/3s through it though as the Crackle app on my TV is definitely not as crash-proof as the Netflix one is. Last edited by Shoji; 01-26-2016 at 07:16 AM.. |

I loved Godzilla Final Wars. There was tons of action, enjoyable human sequences, and it was great seeing updates of old Showa monsters. Maybe not the deepest Godzilla film, but one of the most fun.
Anyways, I just finished Son of Godzilla. I guess I kind of understand why it gets a poor rep, but I actually enjoyed it. The pacing was pretty good, it had lots of good monster footage throughout, and the human and monster aspects worked well together. Also, between this and Ebirah, I think I might prefer Godzilla on an island to Godzilla in a city.
