I know, my point was that both it and the Marvel movie it was clearly trying to model itself after were unknowns and at least one of them succeeded even if most people didn't know who the fuck the raccoon and tree guy were before.

Oooooh. My bad, though everyone knows Harley, so the example still kinda fails a bit

From what I saw, they know Of Harley, though the whole 'being infatuated with Joker' bit seems to be lost on a lot of her current fans. Guess they only read the recent parts, and even those show her getting over him. How much public fans know gets weird when you read their responses.

Fan projects like Mortal Kombat Legacy and Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist also focus only on the first parts, but that's because that's as far as they get before they're cancelled or they take forever to continue.
The general public didn't know shit about Guardians of the Galaxy or Suicide Squad, but Guardians did great and Suicide Squad's fans both old and new still defend the movie regardless. People not knowing about the later bits of a franchise doesn't stop it from happening. As for changing the characters in the suits, doing so past Rocky and his group and not just making it Zeo would be stupid. People bitch when they change whoever Ironman or the Hulk is without even reading the comics, so it would be worse if a movie most people watch just chucked aside a kid to be the same Red Ranger each 2 or so movies if it's the same suit. The reason Hasbro and others focus on the first installment when adapting it is obviously because it's best to start at the beginning. The reasons why they don't go farther are different and varied depending on the quality of the adaptation. How much are the Michael Bay movies like G1 right now? (Autobots being hunted, no Autobot City, no mention of Unicron, Quintesson, Primus, so on). How similar is IDW's Transformers, now that Hasbro is going all shared universe with G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K.? Maybe I won't get my Time Force movie, but for this film to not make it to Zeo at the very least, it would have to be too shitty to continue on. Or are we forgetting that series like James Bond, Star Trek and Dr. Who thrive all the while getting new characters and actors regularly? We all know that Power Rangers is just a branding for different groups of heroes that conforms to specific tropes, but the general audience doesn't know that. Power Rangers ended after season 1 or possibly up to Zeo for most people. And besides, I don't think mainstream audiences could take PR seriously enough in order for that slow growth of mindshare to happen given what from they remember of MMPR. |

Well that's because Marvel has built itself up as a brand with all of these characters. It doesn't matter as long as it's a Marvel movie, it'll be good. The Marvel branding has gotten so prominent that non Marvel studios movies that have marvel characters (IE X-men and Deadpool) are now being labeled as such by the mainstream media despite being made by FOX.

Sure, they went to go see the 1st movie because they all like Iron man, but the way most people will tell you, the only movies of Phase 1 non-fans seem to like are Iron man, Thor if you really like Loki, and Avengers. That's 3 out of 6, only half of Marvel's initial shared universe movies were liked universally. Like you said, Marvel built itself up, but that means they didn't start with everyone trusting them, same as anything else. Let's not forget the fact that originally Marvel films, before the studio was made, were seen as inferior by a lot of people to DC's, besides Spider-man and X-men (though that mostly because all DC had were the Reeve's Superman, old Batman films and were in the middle of the Nolan series). Daredevil, the Fantastic Four movies, Elektra, no one talks fondly of those movies today (or feels okay doing so in public). If people's attitude towards Marvel can shift from to , then something as old as Power Rangers can do just fine, especially since people have been bitching for ages that they should do their own thing unrestricted from the Sentai footage (like it's only the Sentai's fault for some of the shows goofier moments).

Has anybody else noticed the big metal thing in the cave with all the green energy around it? Are we looking at a possible Dragon Zord (since we've already seen Rita with the green power coin), or is this her prison she was trapped in?

I had a thought that the movie is basically the Power Rangers version of Kamen Rider Amazons, (obviously less violent though) and.....I'm okay with that
Then again I guess you could also consider it the PR version of the First and the Next which is uh.... |

I would say this movie could be the Power Rangers version of Kamen Rider: The First too. Both are a more darker and serious re-telling of the original TV series. Hopefully this movie will have way better action scenes than The First and The Next.
