Several, but I'm pretty sure the near-universal backlash MIGHT have had a bit more of an impact in that regard.

I'd be willing to sign that, if it was on toilet paper.
Anyway, they should have named the game Federation Fighters with the subtitle A Tale from the Metroid Universe. You don't name the game Metroid Prime and then have it be about the space marines AND done in a chibi style. Metroid is the name of a franchise and a singular species from the games, not the protagonist. So Samus can be completely absent and the games can still fit in the timeline.

Alright... Gonna be honest, I've been wanting a game like this for a long while now. So they have my attention.

That's akin to naming the Gamecube Pokemon games "XD: A tale from the Pokemon Universe" just because it's not using the same past protagonists.
Metroid is the name of a franchise and a singular species from the games, not the protagonist. So Samus can be completely absent and the games can still fit in the timeline. However, I could deal with that, it is the horrible chibi style that is where the main issue comes from. Anyway, one of my friends just showed me this: http://gamerant.com/metroid-prime-nx-release-645/ **** YOU NINTENDO!!!! |

http://gamerant.com/metroid-prime-nx-release-645/ **** YOU NINTENDO!!!! There was no Metroid on N64 either and that gave Nintendo enough time to figure out how to do a new one and give us a brilliant game with Metroid Prime on Gamecube. With this E3 Nintendo pretty much already showed that the WiiU as a platform is probably not something they are going to invest any further. They are now focusing all of their resources on the NX. Waiting a year or two longer for a new proper Metroid wont kill you and it feels like your just bitching for bitchings sake at this point. On an unrelated note I saw a hands on with Sonys new Project Morpheus and damn this looks like tons of fun to play around with. |

Obviously you've never heard of a spinoff.
