I've been watching Kakuranger as part of The Tokusatsu Network's TokuNet TV Club project, and while I'm really enjoying it (mostly for the strange, comedic-but-also-semi-tragic Yokai villains) I'm finding that the show has a steadfast disinterest in developing its heroes' personalities.
That got me to wondering... What Sentai series out there do you guys think have the best character development? Which series' characters have the clearest character arcs and goals? Which character set has the strongest motivations and most distinct, individual members? I, personally, love how the characters from Shinkenger and Gokaiger grow and change over the course of their respective series. I know complex character work isn't really Sentai's strong-suit, but I'd love to know what everyone thoughts! Last edited by Kamen Rider Lucha; 04-02-2015 at 11:42 AM.. |

I think the best character development I've seen so far was in Shinkenger and Magiranger. Now that I think about it, the Magirangers were amazingly strong characters.

Gekiranger does it best, having the group grow from a trio who write off one member to a star that works in sync amazingly despite the various styles of fighting.
The other series is Gekiranger, by virtue of having one of the greatest villains in all of Sentai history as well as the best villain arc in the franchise in the form of Rio.

Well, I wouldn't say the Goseigers were developed as well as the teams I mentioned before. They were cool, like the Toqgers and Kyoryugers. Close to the top, but not the top xD I have to give that spot to Shinken and Magi. Even though I love the other 3 teams more xD

I never felt that the Goseigers developed much. Aside from Hyde and Agri become more team players, it really felt like they were the same tight knit group from start to finish.
Knight I can kind of see, but his acceptance of the team during the final 4th felt a little quick.

The Gokaigers, Battle Fever J, ZyuRangers, DaiRangers, and Kyoryugers from what I've seen at least.
