Dynazenon is an amazing design that I didn't love at first. This new form makes it a little too humanoid and fantastical while not enough Mecha for me.

I hear you on this. It's like how I feel about Kamen Rider final forms. The base suit is just so good, any type of upgrade is gonna feel tacked on or uneccessary.

There's something just inherently beautiful about how Kaiser Gridknight's shoulder cannon is actually Gridknight holding the Dynamic Cannon up against the shoulder constantly. I'm not sure how to really put it into words other than that part of the sequence where that part of the combination is just Gridknight grabbing the gun and that's how it's locked into place? Beautiful.

I appreciate the subversion of the OP making us think the kaiju seed Chise picked up would lead to a threat near the series end only for it to be a final form component.
King Kaiser Gridknight looks super cool. The energy cape is so extra yet so appreciated. Peak Trigger design.

I feel like an absolute idiot for only noticing this now but - the sole reason Goldburn has size changing powers is so they can shrink Gridknight, for him to fit into Dynazenon.
I was wondering how they would explain that the combined form isn't any taller, like how the gang had to make themselves smaller in Gridman, and as it turned out they did explain it, I just didn't get it at all. You literally see Gridknight shrinking in the combination sequence and I only got this now, I feel so dumb. |

I really hope we get a Dynazenon plush like the one we've seen held by Chise in a some of the promo pics.

I don't know which is cuter. Hair-down Chise or holding-dynazenon-plush-and-wearing-dynazenon-merch Chise.

You know this is from the same people behind Gridman when we finally get that one trippy episode of the main cast in a dream world. And you know it's going to be a big one when they skip the Opening.
So we end up with a Kaiju that completely consumes everyone, human and Kaiju Eugenicist alike, in their past regrets. A pretty vicious Kaiju, all things considered. Obviously Yume is stuck reliving life with her sister, and Kano was standoffish and kind of cold to her, but we get to see where she invited Yume to come to her recital. I don't know if we can take the Kaiju's world as an exact replica of reality, but it seems like Kano really didn't kill herself and (judging by Yume's flashback to her own fall) just probably tripped and fell while grabbing for the ankh. She didn't hate Yume, just like Yume didn't hate her, she was just envious of how happy and outgoing she saw Yume as being and wanted to be more like her, while Yume just wanted to be closer to her big sister and was sad she died. Futaba was good to her, but Kano just didn't want to bother him (or anyone) with her problems. It's really all kinds of sad that these two could never have this kind of conversation in reality, but it's nice that Yume was finally able to make peace with her sister and move on from her death. I love Anti princess carrying Second, and then at the end where she tries t ogive him something to eat. That was so adorable. Also, no surprise that Anti's past regret would take him back to his younger self and be with Akane. Koyomi flashes back to when Yomogi's boss offered to run away with him with all that money (and Yomogi is somehow able to recognize his boss from back when she was a teenager and didn't dye her hair) and this time actually does it. Although in the end it seems like it wasn't the money that mattered, it was probably counterfit anyways, but I guess it was just that sense of freedom that Yomogi's boss wanted? I love how Koyomi is about to probably say something about Yomogi's boss or their relationship and Yomogi is all like "let's go." Yomogi really owning up to being a protagonist in an anime, using his feelings for Yume and his desire to save his friends to break through the mental blocks of the Kaiju and save them. It was pretty epic. Gauma's flashback is back to when he was part of the Kaiju Eugenecists, and even wore their snazzy uniforms, and back when they seemed to be in Japan and had the attention of Gauma's princess. It all went wrong when the country (Japan?) wanted to get rid of the Eugenicists (I assume because of how dangerous they viewed the Kaiju) and Gauma had fallen in love with the princess and chose humanity over his fellow Eugenicists. And then he killed them all. Jeez, that story turned dark quick. So in the flashback we see Juuga without glasses, but did anyone else find it kind of weird we didn't really see much of Sizumu in the flashback? Like I think he was in one of the group shots but he never said anything or was shown prominently. When a Kaiju is too fast for Kaiser Gridknight to get a hold on, he'll just do a giant circular blade attack to give it nowhere to run. Yume has a beautiful singing voice. |

Man that plushy looks so great honestly, I'd love to just own one.
So onto today's episode, given well what I was reading about prior with which staff were on this particular episode and stuff, I figured we were in for a doozy. This is pretty much our parallel to SSSS.Gridman's Episode 9. From the start, everything just feels... off. I mean no OP theme for one, but like just the small nuances. Certain shots of the characters just feel way off than usual and give you this foreboding feeling. And then when we get the Kaiju summoned and everyone just starts vanishing mid-sentence or just between shots. I got chills purely because it reminded me of how everyone got dusted during Infinity War, but more sudden. I also love how they used this Kaiju as a vehicle to show us more of the characters pasts. We get to see more stuff from Yume, and as a result she gets her closure on the whole situation. We see a bit more from Koyomi and we also see Gauma's past. Given the short fight at the end, guess they decided to treat us to two different Kaiju designs even if briefly. I think the most interesting part is how Sizumu is completely out of focus in the flashbacks, we don't see him in the slightest after he vanishes aside from like a far away and a back shot. It really does make me wonder what's going on with him. I do like how Yomogi got to be the MvP here, just rushing straight forward to save all of his friends. It got me teary eyed how he kept bashing himself against a wall to get to Yume. Overall a very striking episode with a lot of really great visuals. Now I suppose the question is... what's next? What exactly is our finale going to be. Especially given the fact that it's been stated that Kaiju have started to dry up. I think the most interesting thing though about Dynazenon is, we haven't had a central antagonist in the slightest. And I feel the closest to that would be Sizumu given just... everything about him, his proactive nature, etc. I'm really curious where we're going in these like last two episodes. Regret is a full-on theme now.
It is something I think about all the time. Looking back at the decisions we've made in our lives, especially the tough ones, is irresistible. Saying yes to one thing often times means saying no to the thousand of other possibilities. We can dwell on what we think were mistakes and those consequences can paralyze us so much that we no longer take risks, try new things, or simply do nothing when we should. As someone who has made his fair share of mistakes in the past, ones I'm still contending with to this day, I know there is no sure-shot solution to constantly thinking "what if?". But there is one thing that worked for me. I met my current partner and we fell in love. The thing about love is that it forces you to look at the world outside of just yourself. When I fell in love with her I really no longer had any regrets in life because every decision I made ultimately led me to her. Meeting her doesn't change my past or suddenly redeem me of the mistakes I made and people I hurt, but it allowed me to accept the choices I made as mine. You cannot change your past, but you have complete control over how you feel about it in the present. I really connect with the characters in Dynazenon. They've been given the profound gift of seeing what life would have been like if they made a different choice. They get to experience the "what if" and ultimately find that it changes nothing. There are just so many things out of our control. I wonder if this means that Yomogi has a life of no regrets, or at least doesn't dwell on them. I wonder if he, like me, doesn't care because everything has led him to someone he loves.
