Been thinking about watching these movies but the release history on DVD/Blu-Ray is such a mess and I don't really see it on any streaming services. What would be the best way to go about seeing these subtitled? I'm willing to do unofficial releases too if that would be the only sane option.

Criterion Godzilla on Blu-Ray has good subs for the original. The Sony DVDs of the 90s movies have awful dubtitles. However, the Kraken release of Ebirah, Smog Monster and Gigan have pretty good subs on them.

There is a recent video Cinemassacre put out that explains movie continuity in an easy-to-understand way. He also gives viewing suggestions. Just search "Godzilla for Beginners: My picks" on YT if you're interested.
Sure, there have been lots of different DVD/Blu-ray releases, but it's really not that bad. You can find most of them for cheap. |

You can also find 'Godzilla Collections' online if you're willing to look around for 'other' options. That's how I first found them before deciding to buy all the blurays. I'm glad I did too since not all the blurays have been released in the USA, I can still see the few that are missing from my bluray collection |
