I've just finished watching episode 14 of Kamen Rider W, which means it's time to learn all about "Begins Night."
Is it necessary to watch the entirety of Movie War 2010 though? I can't quite understand much of the opening segment on Decade, but I know there's a team-up in the third segment that I'm sure depends on that first part. Can I just watch the middle section? Or the middle section all the way to the end? |

There's a scene at the very end of the crossover segment that's kinda sweet for Shotaro (however with no knowledge of Decade I guess it won't make a whole lot of sense), but yeah - the context you really need for W as a series is all within the Begins Night segment.

Curious about that scene. Maybe I'll ask for spoilers when I finish "Begins Night." Thanks!

Just watch the Begins Night segment. It's pretty much a complete story except the monster isn't defeated. Just assume the monster is defeated and move on. Or watch the crossover segment as well for the flashy bits and the tiniest bit more closure (it's mostly nonsensical Decade stuff though). Either way, you can skip Decade's main segment. This is the first in a long line of movies that really should've been 2 movies (or a movie and an episode). Also, when you get to the next crossover, Core, it's the same answer. Watch the W bits (and crossover bits). Ignore the OOOs bits...even if you like OOOs it's recommended to skip. Megamax is the only one of these segmented Rider movies I'd recommend in full as W is present to tie the story together. |

I watched this without having finished Decade, and as long as you accept that Decade just doesn't make sense, it's got some fun action in it. Just make up your own story for the events- it will probably be better than the actual plot anyway.

Something similar applies to Forever A to Z, Neo-Heisei Riders have a tendency to include stuff that doesn't make sense without the movie.

Yeah when watching W I decided to watch the entirety of Movie War 2010, I mostly just saw Decade's portions as some neat action scenes before moving onto W's portion.
Oddly enough it was because of one of the scenes in the Begins Night Segment that got me into watching Kamen Rider. And I don't regret that decision. |

Man... I wish you had seen Decade first whether you loved it, hated it, or wanted to have no feeling toward it by the end of Ep 31. Movie War 2010 is my absolute favorite Movie War and it's because of a proper conclusion for Decade and the revalations behind Begins Night.
The absolute best part is at the end with Shotaro and Tsukasa right after the climactic fight. If you don't want to watch Decade here's the skinny: Decade has no memories of his past and is tasked with destroying 9 Worlds that are actually all Worlds with different interpretations of the preceding 9 KR seasons. It's implied there are other alternate interpretations of the Neo-Heisei seasons if Wizard's finale is to be believed. Philip gives a one-liner describing this little nugget that is one of my absolute favorite moments in Kamen Rider history. It's truly making the best out of the crossover with W and Decade. Just so you know, the ending of Decade will be hella spoiled since this movie is what's been advertised as, Decade's Epilogue and W's Origin Story. Also the ending song, Stay the Ride Alive kicks ass. It is my favorite song of all time. Just felt like throwing that out there.
