Since everyone and their mother seems to have a watch thread at the moment, I thought I’d start my own. With blackjack and hookers. In fact, forget the thread and the blackjack. Ah, screw the whole thing.
Lol, JK. I wouldn’t waste time on a useless thread (it probably violates the rules). So here we are, on with the show (note: due to my terrible IT skills, do not expect any pictures of what I am watching) Episodes 1-2 So to start with, Chousei Kantai Sazer-X is the third instalment of Toho and Konami’s Chouseishin Trilogy, following on from Chouseishin Gransazer and Genseishin Justiriser. I watched the former in December of 2018 (alongside Choudenshi Bioman) and he latter in July of last year (alongside Kamen Rider W). Both were pretty good, so I decided to give the last instalment a shot around now. Now that that’s out of the way, on with the summary. So the premise itself is easy to follow. 500 years in the future, space pirates rule the Earth (no, don’t ask why pirates would conquer a planet. The show doesn’t really explain it). So a group of people travels back to the present to prevent their ancestors from doing so (Hmm, why does that sound familiar?). Among their numbers are Ryosuke Miura and Robert Baldwin (Gee, I wonder what happened to them?) There, they team up with a kid from the present (Someone watched Timeranger) and set off to collect the twelve Cosmo capsules before Dascal (the original generation of pirates) collect them. Two episodes in, they’re not doing so well. To explain why, they need to get twelve capsules out of the hands of the villains, and said villains have found eight. In the first two episodes. But otherwise, the characters are pretty easy to root for and the action is, like its predecessors incredibly good. And as for the credits, they end it on a very generic dancing theme, which is still pretty catchy. And after the next time trailers, they include an o make here the token present-day guy Takuto tries to teach the others social norms, with limited success. This thread will update on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday. |

Ah, Sazer X. The show by TOHO where Samurai Calibur, Barizorg, Ankh, and Ramirez/Kyoyu Cyan ride animal-themed space cruisers and go on a treasure hunt while fighting bad guys. And Voice Roidmude was their commander.
Jokes aside, I think this was truly the best out of the three Chouseishin series. The art direction was nice, fun to see pre-Ankh Miura play a happy-go-lucky youngster, and overall decent show. Looking forward to this. X SOUCHAKU!

Well it’s Sunday, so it’s time for the first update. Here we go with:
Episode 3 So it turns out I was slightly misinterpreting how many Cosmo Capsules everyone has. By the end of this episode, the Sazers have 4 and Descal have 2. And Descal got a second one through a very clever plan to divide and conquer. We also get an explanation for the monster of the week format (which is my preferred explanation that they don’t have many and need to conserve them). And I think I’ve definitely got some appreciation for the female Descal member (they didn’t translate her boss subtitle, so I don’t remember her name). And today’s lesson: Be mindful of who you see not being who you think they are. This is hilariously executed by having the red Descal member (again, I don’t remember his name) wearing a cheap Takuto mask. So overall, this was a pretty good episode. |
