True, but that literally was only with the villains. Golgom and Shocker had those elements, and they still pop up even in modern rider (like with Asmodeus in Senki) but Rider itself never portrays those as heroic.

Tokusatsu has used demons as monsters, but not all demons have been portrayed as evil either! Ever heard of Akumaizer 3?
https://tokusatsunetwork.com/2016/05/15793/ Dinosaurs and Demons are a strange mix from a distanced perspective, but since dinosaurs are essentially "terrible lizards" from a historical perspective, then one could say that an ancient evil and ancient creatures are part and parcel with each other. Also, think of how the official synopsis reads too: "Deadmans is an organization that worships demons. Through the use of mysterious ViStamps, monsters called Deadman are born from within humans. Fighting to protect his family from Deadmans’ clutches is Ikki Igurashi. He himself has a contract with Vice, a demon that lives within Ikki’s body. Together, they transform into two Kamen Riders: Ikki as Kamen Rider Revi, and Vice as Kamen Rider Vice. Together, they are Kamen Rider Revice!" I'm not sure which "Ancient and Evil Entity" will be used to make this so-called pact, but many different mythologies and religions have a personification of evil, so the one they use may come across as an amalgamation of multiple sources, or as a general metaphor for evil itself. Wouldn't surprise me if the protagonist actually renounces the evil that the deal was made with and ends up fighting that evil in a climactic battle. In many ways, this does echo the mantra of the Showa Era in "Using The Powers Of Evil To Fight Evil" and how Riders were originally tragic figures who could easily have manipulated into fighting for evil, but they escaped or were freed prior to total manipulation and have the free will and human heart to fight those who modified them into a weapon of evil. As to the Imagin, they are essentially futuristic spirits who take an imagined form, but they're also viewed in the vein of a genie. Momotaros is also themed after an Oni! As far as Zenkaiger is concerned, Magine and the kids like the supernatural. In this day and age, that's not all that surprising nor shocking. The main concern with the episode is in seeing whether a supposed school haunting is genuine or not. Tokusatsu takes a neither here nor there approach to the portrayal of demons as monsters or monsters as demons or demons as inherently evil. In many ways, it depends on which Toku you happen to be watching at the time. |

That is true to an extent, but Akumaizer is a weird exception (and was cchosen to be portrayed as villains in the Wizard/Fourze movie war, along with Groundain and Skydain later). Demons are inherently evil no matter where you look in history, and while Kamen Rider has always used the powers of evil against evil, there has never been a point where something that is naturally associated with evil is depicted as heroic (for example, Shocker Leader has KKK elements in his design, Ichigo isn’t a hero KKk member, nor has there been a heroic Nazi Kamen Rider, etc).

Ya know it would be easier if toy catalogs hadn't gone off the rails on us, we'd know what we're dealing with in new numerous KRs.
Seeing T-Rex motif of Revi & Vice, will there be a triceratops? a pteranodon? stegosaurus? brachiosaurus? ankylosaurus? parasaurolophus? Anything to introduce all kinds of dinosaurs into the series like Dinosaur King & Dinozaurs! And those "ViStamps", seem odd choices for key items. Like what kinds of stamps will they introduce? |

The impression I get from what we've heard so far is that Vice might represent Ikki's "id". In other words, his most basic and primal instincts manifested into a physical form. Vice has been described as being comedic and hotheaded, and it's also been said that Revi has to step in and reign him in, which gives me the impression that he might be a more serious character (as opposed to say, Aruto or Touma) and might represent the "Superego". It even makes sense looking at their suit designs. Vice has a wild and savage look, while Revi is more streamlined and tech-y. Plus the main locale for the show is apparently a Genetic Research facility, so it wouldn't surprise me if Ikki is meant to be fairly intelligent.
And there's FOR SURE going to be an upgrade form where they both merge that's simply called "Kamen Rider Revice".

I say there is a chance it will be the final form where the two riders are fused in some way.

Now that the dust's settled...
Revi and Vice look great! Pretty sure we are getting an Ultraman R/B situation here, heck the synopsis has a focus on family. Also, I remember someone on the "Create your own Kamen Rider" thread pitch a two Riders as the Main Rider. Imagine that overlap! (Though your idea was pretty cool, if you're reading this.) I'm curious to see what their forms look like. The story sounds like a classic Showa style story, very reminiscent of early Kamen Rider. It's also giving me Akumaizer 3 vibes, which I'm loving. I don't follow too much on Japanese writers and such, aside what I hear from other people, but it's exciting to see how someone fresh to Tokusatsu handles this season. Either way, everything looks great! |
