Clotho is frustrated for not being able to keep up with Houtarou's growth as a Rider. Atropos then coldly mentions how pointless it is for her to even try due to the fact that her (and The Sisters' "older brothers'") specs is not designed to withstand Dread Type 3's powers. So, Clotho's top strength and performance are basically bottlenecked by her specs as a homunculus. This nicely shows that homunculi (Clotho, Lachesis, and their "older brothers") are only physically stronger than humans, but they can't grow beyond their initial physical "specs", unlike humans who can grow and surpass their yesterday's selves. @ 11:59 Kyouka and Minato acknowledge The Sisters and Glion's other alchemy dolls as homunculi that were created via his dark alchemy arts. Clotho also acknowledge that fact several moments later during her interaction with Houtarou. Clotho channels her inner Fight Club fan @ 17:14 when she declares that the only thing that matters is not the meaning nor the mission, but the fight itself. *cue Michael Jackson's Beat It, haha. Oh, and at least she gets the spec upgrade @ 20:36 that transforms her into Mileena from Mortal Kombat, haha.
Aaaannnddd... Yep. As I've hypothesized here and here, the scene @ 01:08 officially marks KR Legend's inclusion in the main series' storyline. I'm 95% sure that this inclusion is due to Bandai's sheer influence on the production of this series. The scene @ 01:13 casually shows the Legend Kamen Riser, so I believe that KR Legend's inclusion is solely due to Bandai's intention to market the new DX Legend Kamen Riser to general viewers of the series, not only to the Youtube/TTFC viewers. I'm worried that the story is officially going downhill from this episode. Who in their right, sane mind put together two incompatible, unconnectible stories with two completely different internal logic/rules, and hope they will make sense? Well, no wonder the story is going in this weird, bizarre direction. This episode is written by Hiroki Uchida, one of Kamen Rider Outsiders' alumni. Now I understand why Toei (or perhaps rather, Bandai) tasked him with writing this episode (and probably also the several next episodes that feature KR Legend). Outsiders-ism/Yuuya-ism is the term I and my friends coined to label this kind of nonsensical narrative chaos that can only happen in KR Outsiders or stories written by Yuuya Takahashi. Plot, consistency of internal rules, logic, rationality, and common sense never exist in KR Outsiders. Every time the name of any writers from KR Outsiders appears, the only thing I can expect is utterly nonsensical narrative chaos. Now I can quite see who the Achilles' heel in the writing of KR Gotchard's story is. Houtarou asks Clotho what's the point of her fighting him now that Glion has gone and the door of darkness had apparently closed, and their interaction is casually interrupted by the arrival of the Kasshine troops from KR Legend's world. Might as well make Sougo Tokiwa arrive from KR Zi-O's world. I mentioned how the multiverse trope is a shock factor and asspull generator just less than 12 hours ago here, and this episode casually throws the multiverse/parallel world trope into this story when it was never hinted at all in the series. The only hint of the existence of the multiverse in KR Gotchard was in the KR Legend spin-off, but it's just a non-canon spin-off, right? Right? RIGHT? The multiverse trope is the laziest, most convenient way to transform (or rather, to forcefully transform) non-canon storylines into canon ones, no matter how nonsensical they are. In this year of 2024, if a story contains even the slightest hint of memory manipulation trope, reality manipulation trope, and or multiverse trope, then I can be 99% sure that that story is going to feature gazillion number of very very very convenient plot conveniences. Sigh... This is the disease of "modern writing". As usual, Koichi Sakamoto will make the civilian actors fight, haha. Props to him and the actors. I hope Rinne's actor will get her fight scene in the next episode. Atropos states that Glion's wish has finally come true and then proceeds to introduce the king of darkness. Is this Gigist guy aka the king of darkness just Glion who managed to fuse himself with a small portion of the uber-demon's powers and then escape the Ouroboros gate? No wonder he looks just like an upgraded golden Malgam. Oh, and the 3 spheres on his chest make him look like he has 3 breasts, haha. Now I can't unsee that. The Kasshine captain states that Hundred's reasoning for targeting Houtarou is because he's Kaguya/KR Legend's friend. Yeah, weird. Might as well target other Riders from other worlds as well because they're the source of Kaguya/KR Legend's powers. Or perhaps their worlds has fallen into Hundred's hands? As if the story is not convoluted already, the writers add 3 new enemy generals (Saigetsu, Mimei, and Tasogare) from Hundred @ 22:20. The story has barely delved into The Sisters, and now it adds a new trio. Tasogare acknowledges the existence of KR Gotchard as a super weapon that disrupts the parallel world, and Mimei says that they come to Houtarou's world to dispose of his Driver before "the annoying, glittering fellow" arrives, referring to Kaguya/KR Legend. Saigetsu then declares that Hundred will conquer Houtarou's world. Let's see whether the new trio will make an actual contribution to the story, or be killed unceremoniously in the next 5 episodes. A story about alchemy is abruptly and conveniently transformed into a story about invaders from parallel world at the remaining 40% of the length of the story. Weird! So... Congratulations to KR Gotchard on officially landing on the realm of mediocrity. Next week: Saigetsu, Mimei, and Tasogare will transform into KR Dark Kiva, KR Glare, and KR Eternal, respectively. As I hypothesized here, Kaguya/KR Legend will make his onscreen debut in the series exactly in episode 33. This episode will probably debut the 3rd OP to mark the start of the new arc, aka the "ruin" arc. Gotchard's story is forcefully transformed into Decade v3.0 or Zi-O v2.0 just for the sake of advertising the DX Legend Kamen Riser toy. Nice move, Toei... I mean, Bandai. *facepalm |

Okay, this is totally the Houtarou and Clotho team-up I've been waiting for! It's cool how Houtarou can always see when somebody is conflicted, as he cannot accept the idea of doing something without believing in it. Clotho even claims that she's only performing her duty, like Rinne did in Episode 4, so of course Houtarou encourages her to fight for her "Gotcha". Clotho mistakes his help as pity at first, but it's actually the opposite that Houtarou sincerely and openly admires her strength of will and wants Clotho to be the best version of herself. Clotho doesn't admit it, but I think she does reciprocate the respect deep down. She just wants her sisters to get along and she seeks strength so she can be a person who they can both rely on, which is certainly honorable. The way she declines Houtarou's friendship by kicking away his hand is such a cool unique character point as well, like, I have to appreciate how Miyahara uses her body for emphasis like that. Clotho also gets her fourth costume change at the end!
Hundred are a blatant plot device, but whatever, they're just here as a mutual enemy unit for Gotchard and Dread to beat up and bond over, which y'know, I'm totally cool with that. Even though Decade was my first Rider show, I'm honestly indifferent to all this weird meta Legend stuff, the special was meh. I hope the show at least reserves enough time for focus on its regular characters and that this subplot concludes anon, unlike the annoying Kyoryuger stuff in King-Ohger. I mean, I'd still rather not have to hear that G-word spammed another dozen times though, damn. There's a good parallel to Lachesis, in exploring the limits of their revealed nature as homunculus dolls, or as Houtarou says, homu-homa-homo-what-us. Clotho cannot handle the power of Dread Type 3 like the human Geryon could, while Lachesis speculates that their lack of humanity is a limit to their personal development as well. Kyoka therefore enthusiastically volunteers to, uh, examine Lachesis' body, in order to find a way to turn the Dark Sisters human. Kudos to Rinne (haha, get it?), since even after the recent attempt to ruin her life once more, she still wants to help Atropos. If only Atropos can be convinced to see the error of her ways, then the Dark Sisters can finally be reunited and not have to live in fear or loneliness all the time. Even Spanner seems pretty supportive of this plan, despite his protest from before about trusting the Dark Sisters.

Well, I guess this teaches me to ignore the side media. Very lost with all of the Legend stuff. It kind of feels like one of those arcs that's focused on bringing in stuff from the summer movie to drive up ticket sales.

I'm not going to stand up for Gotchard as a new high bar for excellence in Kamen Riding or anything, but I think the show is fun. It's going for a more lighthearted tone than the last few series and I find that pretty refreshing. I can definitely think of several shows I've enjoyed less.

The problem with KR Gotchard is that the side content (KR Legend spin-off) is infecting the main storyline. And the bigger problem is that KR Gotchard's main storyline is not only infected by KR Legend, but also by the crappiest of the crappiest of the crappiest side contents: KR Outsiders. Main content should be left as main content. Side content should be left as side content. Canon stories should be left as canon stories. Non-canon stories should be left as non-canon stories. Regular series should be left as regular series. Anniversary series should be left as anniversary series. Abruptly transforming a regular series into an anniversary series just to advertise a new toy is one of the weirdest decisions I've ever seen in TV production. Let's hope that this Legend "arc" is just a 2-parter filler episodes that began in episode 32 and ends in episode 33. If it continues for several more episodes, then Gotchard's story is definitely screwed up by the producers/writers themselves. You came to a thread about the newest series to trash it and curse at it without elaborating your reasoning. You even trashed other people who were talking about the newest series. You must be a Geats/Yuuya cultist. |

A summer movie arc is not that bad compared to this Legend "arc". At least, a summer movie is usually consistent with the internal logic of the series. This Legend "arc", on the other hand, abruptly changed the direction of the show from a regular show to an anniversary show using the pArAlLeL wOrLd trope as a very convenient excuse. Since when Kamen Rider Gotchard has become an anniversary show? Since KR Legend appeared, apparently. It's just a bad narrative move.

Legend is very much Bandai deciding to go "Okay Card Rider, which means Legend Rider cards... hey can we get a Decade homage in here?" at the initial concept phase. So less anniversary and more so just them figuring the moment was ripe and calling their shot.

Gotchard is supposed to be a regular series, not an anniversary series. It's now drastically transformed into an anniversary/crossover series due to the appearance of KR Legend, KR Zein, and the legacy riders, via the notorious, convenient pArAlLeL wOrLd trope. Like I and several other members have said in the rumor thread, this drastic change seems to be permanent, or at the very least will last longer than 2-parter filler episodes like some people would like to believe.
