Chise's great, Yume's great. Hope Chise gets to do more in Dyna Soldier, I got excited when she summoned Soldier. So much energy! Obviously she's not up to it at first like everyone, but love to see more.
Ah, Yomogi's issue with Yume takes me back. Only I got turned down lmao. But I love the interactions with these two, and definitely hoping it goes somewhere. I'm also interested in what's Koyomi's deal. Obviously he's not gonna get with Yomogi's co-worker, but I hope he gets somewhere with someone or takes the ladder steps to society lol. Wonder when they'll realize they don't have to go to Dyna Rex everytime to destroy an opponent. Maybe an episode where they're locked out of it somehow. |

So Chise is getting solid practice in with Dyna Soldier and seems to be getting the hang of it. I wonder how much piloting she'll be able to get in when Yomogi can't do it?
We get to see the combination of Dyna Soldier and Dyna Striker that reminds me a lot of Max Gridman, but it's biggest difficulty is the weight...but it also has some seriously powerful range attacks. So Yume's sister looked like her with a bob cut, but all this investigation into her sister has apparently uncovered that her death might have been a suicide, although I wonder if Yume already knew that on some level? What does Yomogi's boss want with Koyomi? She says she's married, but she's not sure why she even got married, and then she takes him to dinner...and what did she show him in middle school? Thank you Chise for getting our cast into the pool, especially to see her and Yume in swimsuits. Not to mention Mujina in a bikini to boot! All she wanted to do was enjoy the pool. Is there a reason Chise kept her glove on? Maybe something to do with why she won't go to school? Gauma is still best wingman, getting Yomogi and Yume to fake date to fool Sizumu, and the pair actually seemed to have a genuinely good time together...at least until Yume had a flashback to her sisters death. Was that supposed to be jealousy on Yume's face when she heard Chise was with Yomogi in Dyna Soldier? Nice combinations from the crew to take down Sizumu's Kaiju in this episode! |

This was honestly a fun episode, just Gauma's antics of turning a pool day into attempting to capture Sizumu alongside everyone just relaxing. Mujina is also a mood because if I was part of a villain group that just got to the pool I'd be very disappointed in us having to leave immediately even if it's for work stuff.
Dyna Soldier and Dyna Striker's combination was cool, I knew in the OP it looked like a Max Gridman style formation. But the difference between Gridman and Dyna Soldier is that Gridman has the necessary weight and heft to be able to utilize Max's gigantic arms he grants. So far it seems like Dyna Wing is the only optimal combat combination aside from Soldier riding on Diver. But I gotta say, I kinda found it cute with them all just diving into the river at the end, even if their pool day basically got ruined by what I'll admit was an interesting Kaiju. But damn, what a way to end this... And for my final thoughts... so at first I thought Yomogi's boss was like, a minor character we'd see every now and again, but given how weird the vibes are with the flashbacks of her and Koyomi in middle school... I feel like there's something more to her than I originally figured. |

The Gridman shows always have a way of hooking me in. I find the story so interesting even if at times it just feels like a slice of life juxtaposed with mecha and kaijus (and I'm starting to feel like that is my ideal level of "Realism"- that mystical realism that studios like Ghibli and authors like Murakami capture so well).
The show is starting to unravel and I get the feeling the theme is about the grey areas of the decisions we make and how they impact others around us. Friendships, marriage, suicide, and even the act of doing nothing (like Koyomi's unemployment) have lasting effects on people all around us. Also I'm just a sucker for young love. Honestly Yomogi could use a little more development beyond being attracted to the odd girl, but who knows how that could change; I felt that way about Hibiki from Gridman throughout the series until the story came into full near the end. Now I'm okay with his one dimensionality.

Ah yes, the obligatory swimsuit episode, and an opportunity to sell swimsuit waifus for the weeaboos, and for more people to only like this series for that reason over everything else here being near a gosh darn masterpiece, just like Gridman. *sigh* It's fine. It's fine! (Please don't take this man seriously)
Anyway, if Roundabout started playing at the end of the episode, this would have been the perfect cliffhanger. But overall, this was a fun episode, seeing our best boy, Gauma's shenanigans, and everyone else having fun. While in the background, things are about to go down. "Oh yes, it will go DOWN." Yomogi's boss always had this odd aura about her, maybe because I'm reminded of Rikka's mother in SSSS Gridman, though granted she didn't have much going on like in this case. Also, her having doubts on why she's married, for some reason, makes me think there's probably a Gridman situation or something going on here, like maybe these people are "fakes" with their own roles to play here. And Yume's sister might have committed suicide, well that escalated quickly, I was thinking someone might have straight up murdered her. But since they have yet to go into detail, what with the episode ending and all, we might not have the whole picture here. And I gotta say, I love the Kaiju Eugenicists, especially Ogiri, who nearly dies every episode now, it's just fun to see these characters, who despite being the current villains (I expect there's something more going on here), lead rather normal lives, aside from wreaking havoc whenever a Kaiju appears. And by the way, I love how these Kaiju remind me of something the Ultra Series would definitely do. Sorry this has gone on for so long, but since we're getting more info in this series, there's a lot to process, so I'll leave this off with some easter eggs: The joint Koyomi and (I forget her name, but you know who I mean), Cho Jin might be a reference to the original Denkou Choujin Gridma, choujin meaning super human. And Musashibou, probably an homage to the episode whare Khan Digifer sent Musashibou Benkei to protect Takeshi. |

With each episode I grow increasingly worried about Chose and this one REALLY did not help with the focus on her keeping the glove on.

Lots of unpacking for what I was assuming was my typical fanservice-y beach episode. Chise keeping the glove on and the suicide word at the end hoo boy. One can just say Chise keeping the glove on is just her being chuuni, but her bubbly personality, her shots in the opening, SSSS standing for "Scarred Souls Shine like Stars", it all feels like it leads to some form of inflicted self-harm.
Also, damn, I need Koyomi and Yomogi to get with it already hahah. Not quite feeling the three stock footage transformations here, especially with the first one being interrupted and then replayed for the full transformation. Oh well, the music helped it. Also, Mujina in a swimsuit and basically not giving a damn about what they're job is... |

This might've been my favorite episode yet.
First of all, the scenes were Yume is reminded of seeing her sisters falling / her dead body in the water was genius. That's the kind of "show, don't tell" aspect I love about both Gridman and Dynazenon. And at the end it is once again handled perfectly, as Yume is unsure to jump into the water with her friends but looking at them fills her with ease. Since the panned shot included the entire team I want to say it was friendship, but since it ended on Yomogi it made me feel like she does return his feelings. Or a mix of both. Another small hint at this I feel like was seeing her being a bit annoyed / jealous at Chise piloting the Dyna Soldier together with Yomogi. Talking "show, don't tell" and Chise - another great aspect of this episode. The focus on her arm bandage. Now we know it's not fashion but she's hiding something, I think it’s safe to assume its scars. Maybe burn marks even. This will no doubt play into a much darker aspect of her character and the suspected turn towards evil that the opening hints at. Then there's Koyomi who I'm rather worried about honestly. I can't imagine what Yomogi's co-worker "showed" him back then, but it does appear she had issues. I mean, you don’t really smash windows out of boredom. And her current state - I feel like she isn't even married anymore, or at the stage in her relationship were she knows a divorce would be the better option but can't bring herself to do it. And I don’t know how Koyomi plays into this, he obviously had feelings for her but I’m afraid he was and is about to once again be used as an emotional punching-bag. A toy for someone who is broken. Lastly there's Yomogi himself being a bit of a clumsy, love-struck fool and Gauma becoming an object of straight up comedic genius for an entire episode. And that’s why I liked this episode the best so far, everyone had something great going on. Even the bad guys. I really appreciate the running gag of Onija being almost killed via debris at the end of every fight. And this episode also had the best monster so far IMO, a really fun design. The action scene was great too, I love that they went against expectations and didn't make Dyna Soldier Striker a melee brawler form like Max Gridman. Instead it’s a ranged powerhouse with stability issues which is hilarious. My only gripe is that Dyna Rex is once again only brought out for seconds and only allowed to land the finishing blow. I want more action scenes with this form but I'm certain we will get them. So yeah, this episode had everything. A simple yet fun setting, great character moments, well-done comedy and a top actions sequence. Also a really dark twist at the end, Jesus. But that's what makes this show so good, it never goes stale or becomes too predictable, you really need to be prepared for the gut punches. All around fantastic episode for a show that keeps on delivering. In many aspects. Including this facial expression of Gauma |

So do we have the name of that song that was playing during the battle? I recall it also being in the trailers.
Cause I was really enjoying it a lot. |
