And the winner is...
J.J. Abrams! I'm excited. I liked the new Star Trek, and I love Revolution. So we'll see what J.J. can do with Star Wars. My hope is that it starts with Jar-Jar being beheaded. |

I'm really not sure if it's been confirmed yet. I think he'll do an excellent job, but given his role in Star Trek there's bound to be some awkwardness.

Sounds good,he's a good director, but it's still owned by Disney now.I think they're going to have most of the fights in 7 end with the villain either running away or them dying where you cant see it.(i.e. an enemy ship exploding where you cant see the pilot or crew being hurt) It will be a surprise for me if Disney does let Abrams add decapitations and other killings during combat.I at least hope they do.

Kinda like how they didn't let (ignoring the fact he's supposed to be back in Shield) Culson die on screen in Avengers?.... Oh wait....
Yeah Disney owning it won't make it more kid friendly. They can if they want, but they're smart enough to know that the legions of fans will get pissy. Abrahams is a good choice. Granted it's a bit strange him tackling both of the 'big' Sci-fi franchises, but good for him if he does. |

I just have this feeling in the back of my mind that they'll do something to it.I dont know what, but it's Disney. They wont let Abrams have complete control, which may hurt it in the long run.Abrams likes to make a lot of the movies he makes dark, which is good for Star wars.I do hope it ends up good,I just don't have high hopes for it till I see a trailer or on-set shots when its made.

Look. One thing you can say about Disney is they like money. They won't do anything that will stop them from making money. So they won't come in and make wide-sweeping changes when J.J turns in the next movie, because they know who much money they stand to make.

Disney has shown with Marvel that they are not interested in messing with the valuable IPs they are buying up. They are much more interested in leveraging those brands to sell merchandise and distribute films. Despite the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth from the netmarks, Disney has not interfered with Marvel's day to day operations since they acquired them and, considering the buckets of money they have made by operating that way, it is logical that they would take the same approach with Lucasfilm/Star Wars.
As far as JJ Abrams as director of Star Wars, eh, the jury's out for me. I liked his reboot of Star Trek in an Elseworlds, Not-Actually-Star-Trek-But-An-Incredible-Simulation sort of way. But Star Wars as a property is better suited to his visual style than Star Trek. So it would be intriguing to see what he does with it, visually at least. Honestly the script is the key here moreso than the visuals. It's going to look like Star Wars. But what kind of brain will it have? That's my concern.

So is this actually confirmed? Because I've read it in numerous places this morning but I don't think a single one gave a definite answer.
Eitherway, he's an excellent choice for the job. Sans the lens flare
