Who was it who loved Ex-Aid yet hated all the suits? I give you permission to slap this pony's wrist...hoof...thing

Well, if you're really, truly curious, I did spend several dozen paragraphs raving about Ghost literally episode by episode, but then that's SO minutely detailed nobody will ever read the whole thing, so... maybe? I'm more likely to do a whole post about Wizard, honestly. I've never done a big rant about that show before.
Actually though, when I wrote that thread for Ghost, I skimped on talking about the final episode because I couldn't figure out how to properly articulate how great I thought Takeru's big speech at the end was, but I think I'm ready to try now. Basically, it's this: This one line sums up everything that makes Ghost my straight up, no kidding favorite Rider show. Let's be clear about this, I do not think it's one of the best shows. While I may constantly stick up for its quality, there are at least a half-dozen other series I would easily put above it. Series with more solid plots and pacing. Series with better direction and action. Series with more developed side characters. Series with stronger last thirds. So on and so forth. But Ghost does one thing better than any other series I've ever seen, and that's the messages. For all its faults, it's a show positively dripping with substance, and a depth that puts a lot of other shows to shame. I know a lot of people found the constant platitudes hollow, but I could not possibly disagree more. Ghost was a show that, even at its very worst, was always interested in teaching its viewer something. It was a show all about how simply being alive, in of itself, was a truly wonderful, profoundly meaningful thing. How no matter who you are, the fact that you exist is something to be cherished. How our differences as people can, instead of pushing us apart, make us stronger as individuals. How our experiences with one another pass on to create something far bigger than us. Something that lives on long after we're each gone. That's what makes Ghost so special to me. It took what could be considered fairly standard morals and emphasized them in a way that made the whole thing feel fresh. Almost every aspect of the show was set up to cater to those themes. The reason historical figures are Ghost's main form of power up is because they're people whose legacy transcends their deaths. The reason Mugen works the way it does is to show how important it is to empathize with others. The very reason the show is about a dead guy is because the show is about life. I could go on, but suffice it to say, because of all of those things, Ghost easily overcomes its flaws in my mind. It's something that will stick with me way more than a lot of far better shows because I really connected with its message. One that, in my book, for however saccharine or cheesy it may sound, is something to take to heart. So yeah, how's that for controversial? I think my cards are thoroughly on the table at this point. I'm probably going to be embarassed I even posted this but hey, it's how I feel. Hopefully you can all forgive me for being genuinely touched by the worst show in Rider history. Don't worry, I'll go back to making dumb posts about Wizard or whatever soon enough.

I couldn't finish the first episode of Kabuto.
The adding of many forms and power-ups keeps new episodes fresh by adding more elements to the fights. |

Ohhh boy, let's get crackin!
-I think Ichijou from Kuuga is the best non-rider character ever. On the other hand, I think Godai fell a little bit flat. -Agito is so boringgggg, I could barely get through watching its barely progressing mess of a plot. Also all the bad camera filters were terrible. -Ren from Ryuki pisses me off. Also the Mirror Monsters never getting explained bothers me more than the retcon ending. -I think Faiz is really good despite being a trainwreck on most levels. Also I think Orphenoch are the coolest looking monsters in the franchise. -I don't like Blade. I thought the ending was good but didn't think it was built up to well at all. Really nothing about it impressed me except Hajime and the suits. -I think Kabuto is really good and don't understand where all the hate comes from. -Den-O wasn't very funny to me. -I like episode 49 of W. -I don't like OOO and Eiji irrationally irritates me. -Fourze is great, although I don't think it's as good the second time. -I feel... really neutral about Wizard?! Everyone either seems to love or hate it and I'm just like "It's fine." -I like Gaim but I think Kouta was a really weak lead and in general the characters were really underdeveloped. Since I'm not allowed to hide... *runs away*

What does that mean? Does that mean the shows aren't good? I wouldn't say it's bad, just very very boring. While I do agree on that aspect just within a series itself (IE Ex-aid having a guy with a sword, a gun, a GBA arm cannon thing, etc), I feel like having more gimmicks and powerups make all the main riders blend together now. None of the main riders stand out from each other IMO because they have every power. Every main Rider has a speed form or something that can cause them to go fast. Every main Rider has a heavy form. Every main Rider has a sword/gun Last edited by Powerman293; 03-06-2017 at 08:44 PM.. |

No Kamen Rider series will ever be as good as Hibiki's first 29 episodes.

Others: -Kamen Rider Heart looks great. Maybe not the best execution of the idea, but the haphazard mixing of monster and the lead's final form is a cool idea, and I love how he manages to look both imposing and ridiculous at the same time. -Also gonna join the Decade love train. I wish the story had been better, but it's so much fun, and it's such a unique idea for a crossover- rather than honoring the past heroes, it's about destroying them (even if it takes a while to get there). That's crazy awesome and I wish they'd committed to it more. -Also with Decade, complaining about the AR world idea is silly, it would be impossible for them to get all the actors back, and it allows them to celebrate the series by experimenting with a different take on them. -The Super Hero Taisen movies are just mindless fun and action, and they don't need to be anything more. -Kamen Rider Taisen gets a way worse rap than it deserves. Don't get me wrong, the ending is phenomenally, brain-shatteringly, apocalyptically stupid, but the movie is really solid up until that, especially for a Taisen movie. I honestly think if the movie just ended right before that, it would be much more well-liked. -With some exceptions (Sports Genmu and Safari Brave), Ex-Aid's suits are fantastic. I can see why you wouldn't like them if you aren't a fan of the over-the-top 90's aesthetic, but the suits really commit to that aesthetic, and I think that commitment helps make it work. -Onari wasn't nearly as bad as Takeru himself was. I agree with parts of Fish's post (and I'm glad you were able to enjoy it, by the way!), but I personally feel like the message of "life is beautiful, let your life burn bright" falls flat when the character always preaching it has no personality. What's the point in letting your life burn bright if you don't have anything unique about you or anything that makes you flawed, you know? Just my opinion. -Not so much a Rider thing as a translation thing, but I like when subbers take a little bit of liberties to make things a little more "Americanized" in their subs, especially in a show like Ex-Aid or Drive where the aesthetic has some notable American influences. There are limits though, Ryoma Warring isn't such a bad translation, but Ornac is awful. EDIT: Also, G deserves to be canon. Last edited by SloopSloop; 03-06-2017 at 11:12 PM.. |
