Hiroki Uchida is a real nice writer to have around. I thought this episode pretty flawlessly recalibrated all the various bits of the series to where they're going to be for the final stretch. A very solid interlude between the end of one big arc for the show, and the final stretch.
One of Uchida's most specific strengths is that he probably writes the best Master Logos? The dialogue for him always seems so much more colorful in his episodes, and his vapid motivations end up being leveraged in jjjjust the right way, to boot. I'd sort of given up on Crazy Shinken Gold ever feeling like he truly belongs in this show, but continuing on from last episode, the script manages to make that into a strength, and Solomon is in a much better place as an antagonist by the end of this one. His conversation with Touma highlights an honest-to-goodness thematic contrast between him and the protagonists, which was a bit shocking. But yeah, I'll admit it; in this show full of protagonists bound by honor and oath, a dude actively trying to burn his legacy to the ground is maybe a reasonable candidate for main villain status! The episode frames it that way super convincingly in my opinion, and again, the specific lines of dialogue are so, so great. I especially enjoyed his extremely unflattering opinion on Luna. Again, what's making Solomon work for me right now is how genuinely opposite he feels to Touma, so to take all that rejection of fate stuff and just have him outright say "please thank me for saving you from that girl who sentenced you to death 15 years ago" is... like it's honestly pretty brilliant? Another reason I'm feeling way more generous towards Solomon is because this episode very explicitly demotes him to co-main bad guy alongside Storious, which is pretty much what I was hoping for. The long stretches where Storious politely stands around silently as Master Logos goes on insane rants really highlights how much he's simply allowing himself to be in the background at the moment, and then we see the switch, right at the end, where Master Logos has suffered another defeat, so humiliated he's finally run out of snappy responses, and Storious takes him from that CG room in Southern Base we've seen so much of... to the Megid's CG hideout. Master Logos is now a guest in Storious' house. Beautiful way to communicate that visually. And then on top of all that, the episode of course checks in with nearly everybody else, because that just how Saber rolls, and when it's working this well, I'm inclined not to complain. (Speaking of which, love the changes in the opening. Everyone walking along together is so cute.) I'd desperately like for either Reika to do something especially cool, or for Ryouga to do something especially important, but even as it is, I can't say I actually hate the way the show is softening the both of them up right now? It sort of reminds me of how Build gave Gentoku a much goofier side once he needed to fit into the protagonists' dynamic, and as long as Sabela and Durandal still get to have awesome fight scenes, I can't be too disappointed. The episode chose what is maybe the ideal way to show Kento firmly back to normal with another scene on that rooftop, which was delightful. A lot of the fun of this show is in that sense of warmth between the heroes, and I think it's pretty safe to say that Kento has *really* earned a return to that after everything he's been through lately. It's similarly pretty touching that his first priority (after finally changing out of that potato sack jacket at least) is to go talk to Ren, and that, too, was a pretty slick way to check in on that character. It's a little less redundant than another scene with Touma or just Desast would've been, and the fact that it's Kento means we get to see Ren trying to be polite, which helps get across how he's now at a point where he's more genuinely pondering his path than simply deluding himself into thinking he doesn't need anyone. Outside of that, Daishinji is adorable as always, despite the minor roles Ogami, Yuri, and him all get. We also get a classic Saber/Blades team-up here, which you can never go wrong with, especially when it involves an actual monster to fight for the first time in a bit, and another budget-destroying action set piece for Xross Saber. I won't lie, I'm sad to not see Rekka in that Driver by default, but I do like the idea that it's almost this entirely new era for Saber, with a whole new set of forms and a sweet insert song and everything. I mean, it's really hard for me to be upset about Xross Saber! Even asking "where's the base form!?" with it is just like... I'm literally staring at it! This show, man!

It's nice to see the show's gotten a bit more decent now that Xross Saber's here and everyone's basically at the endpoint of their arcs except for Ren? It's a similar problem I have with Zero-One where the conclusions of those arcs are great and it's nice to see them, but they had absolutely no clue how to actually carry out that journey.
But unlike 01... now we're actually here it's actually a new status quo that's good to take in and I'm enjoying a fair bit! I'd like Reika to be a character again and really wouldn't mind if Ryoga just tripped on a rock and died or something but aside from that thing that's been bothering me for months now, something the show's great at accomplishing is the absolute triumph of all the Swordsmen united. Sure, Ren's still very conflicted about going back but it's done in a way that it's inevitable, with everyone gathered at the Northern Base more or less happy and Xross Saber symbolising that crowning achievement. Even if I feel his arc was pretty disjointed, it's just nice to see Kento smile again and be back with his friends! It's nice to see him ultimately make the choice to defy fate at Touma's side, and were his story a bit better done I think it's a moment like this that would have settled him as my favourite character in the show. He's come a long way since his brooding debut. I know this is a lot of backhanded compliments but... well, what can I say? It hasn't been a good show getting here, and I have to acknowledge that when the good it's now doing is inevitably building off of that. I've hoped for a while that Saber could turn things around at the last second for me and it looks like it's on that road now

For those wondering where Kyomu is in Xross Saber's powers, there's some info in the website. Took the translation from /m/.
By sliding the Great Cirxross, a circle located on the emblem, the characteristics of each holy sword that resides on the blade can be taken in, and the abilities and techniques of each can be freely expressed. In addition to taking in the power of conflicting holy swords and uniting them, it also maintains the harmony of the galaxy by returning the surplus of released power to -nothing-." |

So is Kyomu like, recycling the excess energy or something? I don't get it. I do get that it's maintaining the balance somehow.

It's funny since i was thinking that Kyoumu is represented by the visor, because of the hollow hole which can represent void and the shape of the visor look the most similar to Kyoumu sword guard in term of shape and looks like i'm not far off.
As for the Kyoumu role in Xross saber, i see Kyoumu as the empty vessel in which you need to fill with the seiken power in order to use the power that you chose from Xross saber, which is why you need the visor to the element you chose and store it inside the emblem in order to use it. Now for the episode, to be honest i was behind for 3 episodes and i just manage to catch up and it was a fun ride, i really appreaciate Xross Saber now thanks to the last episode and this episode also soften me up even more. I love how we get to see this big cast interacting with each other without feeling overwhelm by all the thing that happening here and the cas interaction is always a fun time for me to watch, sure some of the cast get sideline, but they prove that even though the might not be in the spotlight they still a joy to see. And is also good that the Shindai are given the chance to do something and i also like how they don't immediately become buddy-buddy with Touma and co, rather they slowly softening up with them, which is something i rather take than they get a one episode redemption from nowhere and they just become Touma buddy. This episode also make me appreaciate Master Logos even more as he's shown as a direct paralel to Touma and his intention to Luna is complete opposite and the revelation about Luna make it feel more personal for these 2 characters, him sarcastically lie to Touma and him double dipping on his madness while trampling everything about SOL duty to the ground make me appreciate him, bonus point for him that his proper introduction way before this episode was him breaking an ancient oath, which is a complete mirror to Touma who's try his best to fuffil all his promise. The twist that Touma is destined to vanish as soon as Luna chose him while predictable is also spicy and once again make Touma not entirely safe from the bad omen that will befall him, which is something i welcome with open arms. There's more that i want to say about these 3 episodes but i think i stop now, cause it will take a day if i continue to write my whole thought Last edited by Anonymcat; 06-14-2021 at 01:39 AM.. |

Is there any explanation about the knight's picture in Mei's new pop up books?

Seriously the Wonder story book itself is a mystery, but the show seems to hint that the book is the book of omniscience or at'least a part of it |
