oh! I remember this! This was on satellite TV, I remember seeing it at a friend's house, and then watching it years later when, amusing enough, I was waiting to record repeats of, amusingly, Battle of the Planets... although, ah, I'm not sure how comfortable I am being associated with disco, lol.
I never knew Tekkaman was by Inoue! Once again, the man saves himself from my threats to burn down his house. |

But back to Jushin Liger, yes this was what inspired the pro-wrestler which kinda continued on as a wrestling persona after the anime like Tiger Mask.

I didn't know that! The only incarnation I saw of this show was as Teknoman—gosh, watching that opening now, it's really Gridman-esque, isn't it?
Also, Teknoman Saber is voiced by Bulk from MMPR, and that's just amazing.

Voltron is an adaption of "Beast King GoLion" from Toei; The Brave franchise is made by Takara in partnership with Sunrise.
It is not based on a canceled Transformers series; its origins are however tied to Transformers. After "Transforms Victory" ended the series was on all all-time low in popularity, Transformers had long ended in the US and one last attempt at reviving the brand, an OVA called "Transformers Zone" was ultimately cancelled. After that Takara sought out a partnership with Sunrise to develop a new franchise to market toys with, that was what would become Brave. It still features transforming robots but is not related to Transformers directly, although since Takara owned the rights they did remold and/or repaint a few Transformers toys and sold them under the Brave banner. I have only seen two Brave shows; they are pretty good but ultimately a bit more on the generic side. But when you crave for some 90’s super robot anime this hits the spot. |

I actually legit love the Teknoman dub. It somehow managed to retain most of the drama while being able to insert a good balance of cheesey comedy. The only downside is that they for some reason felt the need to SUPER shorten the final few episodes and splice them together.

I think I should possibly re-watch this! I went through a phase when I was younger just being angry about dubs all the time, so I may not really have given Teknoman its due, but now that I'm older and we have greater access to stuff, I have extreme nostalgia for things like the DiC dub of Sailor Moon and the Cantonese dub of Digimon &c. I'm sure there must be some Teknoman episodes somewhere on youtube or something. |
