Now that E3 is over, what did everybody think?
My takeaways were: - Final Fantasy Origin looks fun, but the characters seem a bit too "edgy" for me. - I wish the Final Fantasy Pixel remasters would come to consoles. Release a Switch collection! - I've been hoping for Fatal Frame to come to Switch for years, and it finally is! I'm hoping that this leads to a revived interest in the series. - Finally some Shin Megami Tensei V gameplay footage, and it looks really good! - Metroid Dread, WarioWare, Mario Party, and Advance Wars were all cool and unexpected announcements. - BotW 2 looks good. - I'm really disappointed that Bandai Namco's presentation was about ONE game.

Metroid Dread was HUGE for me, loved that so so much. Easily the thing I'm most excited for!
Nintendo kinda crushed it this year in general in fact. More BOTW2 details, new WarioWare, lots of great enhanced ports and collections, a cool looking Smash character. Just lots of great stuff all around! I liked the Xbox fridge as well

Metroid Dread looks cool, and I'm glad it's a continuation of the main story, too.
Also, I did find it funny that Nintendo had to damage control by saying Adam's role in the plot will be minimal after Other M

Here are the Top 4 Things for E3 with me.
Number 4: The Halo Multiplayer Showcase As a fan of Halo since the beginning of early high school, getting into Combat Evolved and then deciding "I want a 360" to play Halo 3. I have a bit of an attachment to the series. Granted I haven't liked their direction since, Infinite's Campaign Tease last year was not welcoming in the slightest. And I also fear the fact that they only barely showed anything on the Campaign since that's the most I'm worried about. But you know what else I love about Halo? The multiplayer, and that multiplayer looks really fun honestly. I mean grapple hook to grab a Gravity Hammer? Using a grenade to blow an Energy Sword to me? Yes please. Also the armor and such, also the fact that the Samurai Armor is called the Yoroi Armor (Armor Armor). Number 3: Devolver Digital They always manage to make a great conference video lore thing. And this was also just fun, the fact that they said "Yeah all the previous ones were just huge deepfakes and even the star of them didn't know she was actually doing this" was pretty fun. Also they had chili dogs and I really wanted a chili dog after that. Oh and of course, they had the NonFrickwithableTape. That alone shot them up for me because hey, it's an NFT that doesn't suck! Number 2: Chaosposting Sometimes you just need a simple but effective trailer for a game, and Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins is that trailer. Because it's one of the few trailers that has made me laugh in the longest time. I genuinely enjoy the early "This is what 15 year old me would think is cool" tone that they're setting up here. Because let's be honest, we shouldn't be ashamed of or try to put down that stuff. It's why I love stuff like Devil May Cry 5 so much, because the characters are all different variants of "What 15 year old me thought was cool" and that's why it works. And just judging from all the gameplay I've seen on it, it's looking like it's going to be a real fun game to play once it comes out. I feel like it's an interesting direction to take the series in given it's a spin-off and well, Final Fantasy is known for variety after all. And I mean honestly, just Chaosposting in general, that was the most fun I've had riffing on, and just memeing a lot. It really helped that day of E3 go up for me regardless of lackluster stuff. Number 1: Nintendo (Yes just Nintendo) Uh let's see, Kazuya in Smash thus giving us another villain rep, a bamco rep finally, and a rather cool fighting game character? Yes. Super Monkey Ball returns and that is honestly great to see! Also that Mario Party game? The game that is basically everything that the last one wasn't? Sounds like a fun time. Metroid Dread, now can I just say it's incredible how they had two mic drops in the form of, Metroid 5 saying they're continuing forward in the timeline, and Metroid Dread, that one project that's been off and on in the background for ages. We may not have gotten Prime 4, but I think we got something just as great, and arguably even better by certain standards. Other small things like WarioWare, Fatal Frame getting out of the Wii U and thus ripping another exclusive from it's grasp. Cruis'n Blast looks like a genuinely fun racing game. Advance Wars 1 and 2 returning and getting a remake of sorts. SMTV, hot damn, that looks really cool and I'm not a huge Megaten/Persona guy. Also the main characters hair? Long, luscious, flowing... beautiful honestly. And of course, capping it off with a brief look at BotW 2 where we get even wilder than before? Yes. Also the fact that they're keeping their cards close to their chest on the title of the game for now, that's exciting. Edit: Oh right, the JP Direct announced a new console SRW Game, SRW 30. So that'll be exciting to follow. I think it's no real leap to say that Nintendo saved E3 honestly. But it's hard to blame a lot on everyone, because well, we're finally seeing the effects of the pandemic on gaming as a whole. But I do appreciate that we got mostly everything done in a week or so, instead of spreading it out over 3 months in an agonizing fashion like last year. Huh? The E3 conference already finished?
Wow, I'm more behind recent events than I thought!

So far for me, it's Age of Empires 4 coming out in October, it's been ages since I've played a strategy game, and Age of Empires is one of my favorites, all the sequels and spinoffs, good stuff. And Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, always happy to see a new Final Fantasy game, though I hope I'll like it more when we see more stuff for it, since what I hear sounds good to me, also being my first Soulsborne experience.
Nintendo, obviously seeing people were going to be disappointed with E3, decided to make everybody happy with their reveals. I wonder when we'll hear anything for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, since I haven't heard anything about that one in a long while. Final Fantasy XVI is probably because their taking their time with this, so they decided to withheld showing anything off because they didn't want people yelling at them to release the game, so they showed us Origin to tide us over with since it has a release window. Same with VII Remake, though also because Intergrade just came out. Anything Kingdom Hearts is probably because Union X just finished, so they probably skipped on that, which I'm fine with. We'll have Tokyo Game Show later this year in September(?) so there'll be stuff to look forward to then. (Edit) I'm actually excited for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. Yes, I would love to get it on the Switch, but I'll settle for PC. This is the perfect opportunity for me to play these old games in their original format, though I'll still play the remake versions for III and IV. Is a bit strange. Think it'll get delayed again? It's meant to come out this year, but...

As for KH, we know they have multiple teams in development alongside shuffling the mobile teams into the other teams. But Nomura did mention that we'd be light on any real news until 2022 when the anniversary kicks off. |
