I did like that they resolved the thing with Yume very quickly. Well, most of it the things with Yume anyway. I thought they were gonna keep it as a subplot that builds up to her configuration with Zenon or Yomogi, but it just sorta happens which is fine by me. Seems as though it's Chise that'll have that kind of reveal, with the opening signifying some sort of kaiju or some sorts. My guesses are she's kind of like Anti.
There's no reset thing that happens with every kaiju fight, so the battles have some weight since now they have to make sure the city doesn't actually get destroyed which is great. But I find it weird that the people and the characters themselves don't really care? There is that scene with Yume and Yomogi, but for the bystanders, it didn't seem like it was a big deal for them. Also, I really need a kit of Dynazenon. One that doesn't cost an arm lol. |

So I’ve been diving into mugenbine recently and that dragon looks like a mugenbine which makes me smile.

Man I like this show a lot so far, episode 2 was great!
I really enjoy how they aren't pointlessly dragging their feet with the character development, because there really isn't any need to avoid talking about Minami's sister or Yomogi being uncomfortable with the situation at hand. Gauma is the MVP so far though, he's so much fun. |

Dynazenon's been continuing to impress, really enjoying it so far. Getting Ultraman Mebius vibes with them seeing the aftermath of their first battle for some reason, maybe because of that whole "we're partially to blame for this" situation.
And I gotta say, I love how they're doing a toyetic approach with Dynazenon, and even having a throwback to the original Gridman's appearance sequences, which is a pure delight. I would love to get a figure of Dynazenon (and Gridman too, when I have money on hand). The characters have taken a step forward from the previous episode, unlike SSSS Gridman (not that I have any problem with Gridman) with the sort of training arc, and now we're meeting the villains, or at least who we're assuming to be the villains for now, whom I can't help but think Jyuuga looks like an evil Kamina. Also Gauma being such a bro is wonderful to see, easily my favorite character. And that opening is just magnificent, it's such a heroic song, with even the instruments sounding great. With all of the respect they've been putting into this and Godzilla: Singular Point, these shows are so far my favorite Anime this year, of course, there's still The World Ends With You (I know it's out, I just haven't started it yet) and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean coming out at some point to look forward to. |

So Gauma's pouch and the object that shined in episode 1. Clearly the mummy from Gridman, right?

This... this is FANTASTIC!
This year must be pretty lucky for me in regards to Toku -- Zenkaiger's been ticking every single one of my boxes, Tropical-Rouge has been fun to dive into, Saber... is not my favourite but it's doing some fun things, I've been enjoying going back and watching Showa seasons of Sentai and Rider for the first time in ever... and then THIS show comes along with the mission of just being damn entertaining and succeeding in every way with it. Like, I have to admit... I was slightly hesitant on getting in on this? I watched SSSS Gridman back when it was airing and I'd struggle to tell you much about it -- not even necessarily any fault of its own, just my tastes and the way I watch stuff has changed so much that I don't think it resonated me as much as it would have today. And then watching the original Gridman recently has not been grabbing me at all. So watching even just the first few minutes of Dynazenon here? Where it's all just quiet, mundane, normal life, just people being people and doing that in a way that's still engaging? Yeah, that's bringing back so many memories of SSSS Gridman for me and I'm falling in love! Yomogi especially is striking a chord for me, clearly a nice guy at his core but rendered pretty quiet and reserved due to how his life and striving for any form of independence weighs him down. It's the reading I'm getting at least, and it's a really nice, nuanced type of characterisation I don't see a lot. And then Dynazenon itself is. Uh. AWESOME?? I've rewatched that transformation sequence over and over and it just does not get old; it's sick in the best of ways and really makes me wonder if I should start watching more Mecha shows in general if I'm this into the one time a Toku hero is one. Bit of an interesting contrast to Gridman as well that Dynazenon here isn't an actual character talking to our cast, but I imagine there's a story behind that we'll get to eventually. Maybe? Honestly this show can do what it likes; it's worked well so far!

Gauma continues to be the highlight, dude's just eating crabs from the damn underpass and also decided to be a contributing member to society and went for a night cross guard shift. Also poor Yomogi, always just getting these weird guys showing up in front of him in his personal life causing everyone to scratch their heads. Will say it's nice to see that we already got to what I was expecting would be Episode 5. Which was the full team coming together to properly form Dynazenon instead of their prior attempts. I had assumed we'd have gotten like more alternate combinations first before getting to it, but hey that's nice. |

Episode 3 was fantastic. I want to praise this show more but I feel like I would need to talk about everything that happened because everything was great. So far I do enjoy this a lot more than the Gridman anime and that's saying something, because Gridman was great also.

So yes, Gauma and his former comrades dying 5000 years ago, being revived, commanding "dragons" (Kaiju) and Gauma searching for his "princess" is all lore regarding the mummy that appeared in the OG Gridman episode which also marked Dyna Dragon’s first appearance as the "Dragon Cannon". Plus, the dragon statue Gauma had was in the mummy’s possession as well, and it had a sword with an emblem on its hilt, said emblem was hanging from the pouch that Gauma carried. There might be a deeper meaning to this eventually but for now it's a rather elaborate, clever and fun homage. If nothing else they took a random weekly story from the classic Gridman which happened to be the first appearance of what they turned into their main robot and made an entire plot out of it. |
