Prologue: Once Upon A Time -20:52PM- “Kyaaah!” Running for her life, a little girl turned around the corner. Looking at her surroundings, she found two options: run for the park or run into the alley and hide. Hearing her pursuers footsteps growing louder, she opted to run into the alley to further avoid detection. Holding her hand over her mouth in an attempt to remain silent, the young girl closed her eyes. ~Please go away, please go away~ she thought to herself. “Do you smell her?” “Oh yeah.” “Where is she?” “The park.” “Okay, let’s go then.” As the voices began to become distant, the girl opened her eyes and peered out from the alleyway. “Phew, I’m safe…” “So this is where you were after all,” a voice said from behind her. “Kyaaah!” From a rooftop, a young man and teenage girl heard the scream. The girl took out a pair of binoculars and looked on in the direction of the commotion. “What’ve we got?” “Two hostiles, seems to be a Goblin and a Troll. They’ve got a girl.” “Well, this should be relatively easy. You want handle it or should I?” “It’s your turn to go, I did last weeks job, Takeru-Senpai,” teased the girl, walking over to the young man before adjusting his tie. “When are you going to give me your answer?” “Uh…is that really the time for this?” “I’m just curious Senpai, that’s all,” Akari said turning around, walking away sheepishly. “Alright, I’ll be right back Akari. Stay on headset, if it gets a little rough for me, I’ll call you for back up.” “Like you’d need it.” “Let’s go Mori.” ~Okay!~ Taking out an odd looking book-shaped buckle, he placed it on his waist and opened it. From the book a belt materialized and locked itself into place. Taking out a yellow orb, he pressed the center of it. As it expanded, a voice came out of the orb, saying “WOODSMAN!” Placing it into a crevice in the buckle, he gripped one side of it. “Henshin!” Pulling a “page” from the “book” over the orb, a voice came from the buckle as well- “STORY START! WOODSMAN!” Takeru suddenly was engulfed in a yellow light. Leaping off the rooftop, the light faded from the young man to reveal that he was now encased in yellow and black armor. Running towards the alleyway, he held his hand out as an axe manifested in his hand. “That’s it little one, keep crying…” said the Troll, holding the girl against the wall as he held a vial in his hand. A strange mist came from the girl’s eyes and went straight into the bottle. “She’s giving off a lot of this stuff! I think the boss would love to have her as a Source. Hey, Goblin, you’ve been awfully quiet, say so-" The Troll looked over to his left to see that the Goblin was being held by Takeru with his axe at its throat. “If you want your buddy to live, put the girl down. Now.” The Troll grunted to himself before he did as he was told. As the girl fell to the ground, the young man tossed the Goblin at the Troll, knocking him off his feet. Catching the girl, the young man ran outside the alleyway. “Are you okay?” “I was so scared!” the little girl cried, hugging Takeru. “Whoa, whoa, come down. Okay, you see that building there?” he said, pointing to one that had a bright neon sign. “Uh-huh,” the little girl said, nodding her head. “Okay, my partner is in there. She’ll keep you safe while I handle those monsters okay?” “Be careful mister, the big one is strong.” “Don’t worry about that kid,” he said, patting her head. “Get back here!” the Troll yelled, running towards them. Swinging his fist at the young man, the Troll was shocked to see that he caught it. “I’m strong too,” Takeru said before swinging his axe with his other arm, hitting the Troll right in his stomach. “Now go!” The little girl did as she was told and ran. “She ain’t getting away that easily!” the Goblin said, running along the walls of a building. “Not so fast! Kazuya!” ~Let’s do this thing!~ Holding out a green orb, the young man pressed its center as it expanded, while he took the yellow one out of his buckle. Placing the green one inside, he pulled the page over it, causing the belt to announce: “STORY START! ROBIN!” As his yellow and black armor broke apart, the young man was engulfed in a green light as green and black armor reformed on him with a crossbow like weapon manifesting in his hand. Aiming at the Goblin, Takeru pulled the trigger as several energy arrows were shot from it, hitting the Goblin and knocking it off the wall. ~Takeru, be careful, the big one is getting up.~ Turning to see the Troll get back on its feet, Takeru looked around at his surroundings. Noticing a nearby fire hydrant, Takeru aimed his crossbow at it. “STORY’s willing to pay for damages, right?” ~I suppose, but I’m guessing you’re gonna need Triton for this next part, aren’t you?~ “Of course!” Firing an arrow at the fire hydrant, Takeru watched as it exploded before pressing something on his helmet and pulling out a blue orb. Repeating the same steps he did before, the belt announced “STORY START! MERMAN!” before engulfing him in a blue light. Just like before, where Takeru stood was a being in completely different armor; this one being black and blue. “You keep changing colors kid, it ain’t gonna help you,” the Troll said, slowly closing in on Takeru while cracking his knuckles. “There’s only one of you and two of us,” said the Goblin, coming up from behind him. “Who said there’s only one of him?” A red blur zoomed past the Goblin, knocking him off his feet. “Took you long enough!” “What can I say Senpai? You left a little girl in my care.” Right next to Takeru was another armored warrior- this one had a very feminine build and wore a red hood and cloak over her head. In her hand, she clenched a hunting knife, twirling it around. “There’s two of them? I didn’t sign up for this!” the Goblin said running away. “I’ve got the Goblin. You handle the big one.” “Yes ma’am,” Takeru said holding his hand out. A trident materialized and he swung it around before aiming it at the destroyed fire hydrant. “Now what is that supposed to do?” “Oh, you’ll see.” Takeru pointed the trident at the destroyed fire hydrant as the water from it began to rise and contort. Swinging the trident towards the Troll, Takeru clenched his free hand into a fist. The water converged together around the Troll, encasing it in a clear prison. “What?! Let go of me!” “This is what you get,” Takeru said, pulling the yellow orb back out again. “STORY START! WOODSMAN!” As he switched forms, Takeru slowly made his way to the trapped Troll. “Now tell me, who is this boss you and your Goblin friend were talking about?” “I ain’t saying nothing!” “Very well then. We’ll just have to scan your partner’s memories back at HQ. As for you though, you’re the one who hurt that little girl. Tried to feed off her fear. Well, I can’t have that going on in my town.” With one swift jab from his fist, Takeru sent the Troll flying. As he skid down the street, the Troll attempted to stop himself, digging his claws into the pavement. “You’re just making this easier on us.” Takeru held his hand out as his axe manifested in his hand once more. Pulling the page on his buckle again, the belt announced “WOODSMAN! THE END!” Raising the axe above his head, large tree roots sprouted from the ground, ensnaring the Troll. Tightening on the Troll’s limbs, he screamed in agony as Takeru dragged the axe along the ground. “Timber.” Tossing the axe up, Takeru grabbed its handle and swung with great force, slicing the Troll in half at the waist, causing an explosion. From the explosion, a grey mist began to float up away from it. “What the- Aw crap, I forgot to load a blank Essence into Druid!” Takeru said, looking over his axe and noticing the gaping hole near the blade. “Aw man….Oh well, as long as Akari catches that Goblin, we should be good…hmm?” Closing up his buckle, Takeru’s armor dissolved into light as he walked towards a glimmering object in the road. As he bent down to pick it up, Takeru looked at it confused. “A key?” “Now now, it’s not nice to take something that doesn’t belong to you.” ----- -21:40PM- Despite his best attempts to avoid and outrun Akari, the Goblin found the young woman on his tail. Running into a dead end, the Goblin turned around and found himself face to face with Akari. “Whoa whoa whoa, Miss, can’t we talk about this?!” Raising his arms outs to her, he nodded nervously. “See? See this, I surrender, take me in!” “That’s not how this works,” Akari said, slowly walking closer to the Goblin. Taking her knife in hand, she stabbed it into the Goblin’s shoulder, pinning him to the wall. “OW! I’LL KILL YOU, YOU CRAZY BITCH!” Pulling the knife out, Akari simply stabbed it into his other shoulder. “Owowowow, okay, I get it, please stop with the stabbing!” “Talk.” “About what?!” “This boss of yours.” Dropping to his knees, the Goblin looked up at Akari. “There ain’t just one of them. The one Tiny and I worked for, more like a branch manager if anything.” “Tiny? Oh that Troll…now, what do you mean by ‘branch manager’?” Helping the Goblin onto his feet, Akari walked him over to a nearby bench and sat him down. “Thank you...” “You’re not out of the clear yet. Explain about the branch manager.” “…Okay, you know how they’re many big names out there? Well, they’re all working for some guy. Tiny and I work for only one of his lackeys.” Wiping her knife clean, Akari looked back at the Goblin. “And which one do you work for?” “Oh, if the Fairy Tale that’s powering you is who I think it is, she knows him all too well.” “You don’t mean-“ Akari heard something coming from the air as she leapt to the side. Unfortunately, what was coming right at her instead hit the Goblin, causing the creature to explode. “Shit!” Tossing a clear orb at the explosion, Akari ran through it and retrieved the orb, now a sickly green in color. “What was that…whatever.” Pressing a button on the side of her helmet, Akari began to speak. “Senpai, are you there? Goblin began to give me some info, but something managed to keep his mouth shut. I managed to capture him in an Essence though, so we should be able to read his mind back at HQ…Senpai?” Akari stopped pressing the button on her helmet and began to head back to where she had last seen Takeru. Pressing something on her belt, her transformation canceled as she saw bright lights illuminate the area. As she moved closer, she noticed the colors of the lights and heard the sirens. A feeling of anxious uncertainty began to fill her head and heart as she found herself picking up the pace, going from a calm walk to a nervous sprint. “Please don’t tell me-“ Akari could make out the shapes near the area- several police cars and ambulances had surrounded the scene. People had gathered around and were all muttering something to each other. Taking another step closer, she noticed something gleaming in a nearby trashcan. “No…tha…” Reaching inside, she pulled out Takeru’s buckle and his three orbs. “If these are here…Senpai…” Sticking the items in her bag, she began to push people out of the way. Just as she was about to cross some police tape, she felt a hand touch her shoulder. “Miss, we need you to stay back.” “Officer, please, my friend…I lost track of him, this area is where I last saw him!” Akari watched as the officer took his hat off and held it in his hand. “What did your friend look like?” “He was about 5’10, athletic build, short black hair-“ Akari stopped herself as the officer looked away from her. “I might get fired for this…but, I think you should see this…” Bringing her under the police tape, the officer began to walk Akari into the alleyway. Another officer approached them just as they were about to enter. “What do you think you’re-“ “She’s a friend of the young man in there…” The other officer’s face at that moment displayed the same face as the first officer. “Miss…what you’re about to see, it isn’t pretty…” Hearing those last few words prompted Akari to push the two officers out of the way and run forward. “SENP-“ Akari stopped and looked on in horror at the sight- Takeru was pinned against the wall, his shirt torn with a very visible cut in his midsection. “SENPAI! SENPAI!” Running up to him, she noticed that on the wall there was something that she assumed could’ve only be written with his blood- “THERE IS NO HAPPILY EVER AFTER.” Next to the message was a symbol; the symbol was a heart stabbed with a dagger within a circle of runes. “Ugh…” Akari looked up to see Takeru’s eyes slowly open. “SENPAI!” The two officers ran in and saw what Akari had just seen. “He’s still conscious! Medic!” “A…Akari…” “Senpai! What is it?” “Help the boy down, get a stretcher!” The medical team ran in and helped Takeru down. As he was laid down on the stretcher, he and Akari were brought into the back of an ambulance. Holding his hand tight, Akari looked at Takeru struggling to breathe. “A…Akari…” “Senpai, please, save your breath, we’re almost to the hospital.” “I’m sorry…” “Sorry for what? Don’t apologize, everything is going to be alright!” “You…you…” Clenching his hand tighter, she could feel it growing colder. “What about me Senpai?” “I…Never gave you my answer…did I?” “That doesn’t matter right now Senpai!” “No…it does…” With his other hand, he attempted to reach up at her. She moved closer and leaned towards him, holding her other hand out for his. Instead of grasping her other hand, he touched her cheek and smiled. “Yes…I will go…” And that was when his hand dropped. “Senpai…Senpai…SENPAI!” ----- -23:58PM- After being questioned and released from police custody , Akari began to walk the streets. Looking all around her, she noted all of the places she and Takeru had been before. As she reminisced about them, she made her way to the tallest building in the city. Sneaking around to the back, she walked up to a large door with a number pad. Inputting the code, the door opened quickly to reveal a mirror. Taking out a red orb from her pocket, she held it up. From the mirror came a beam of light that connected to the orb that then regressed back into the glass. As the glass turned a bright red, the mirror was lifted, revealing another door way. Stepping inside, she heard the bigger door slam behind her, as the mirror returned to the ground. Akari continued walking until she came across a door with a hand shaped pad. Placing her hand on it, she heard a computer announce: “RECOGNIZED- AKARI FUUDO.” The door flew open, revealing what resembled a base of operations. Peering inside, she noted the people in there- three men sitting in the chairs looking nervous, a woman sleeping on the couch, a little girl playing with a teenage girl, an elderly man fixing a machine and a stern looking woman coming her way. “Akari!” the woman said, hugging her. “Where have you been? We’ve been worried sick!” “Akari-chan!” a bearded man said, leaping from his seat. “Have you seen Takeru? We haven’t had any contact with him since the fight.” “Akari? What’s wrong?” the little girl said, walking over to Akari. “Fuudo-kun.” Akari looked up to see that there was one more person in the room- seated at the desk at the end of the room was a man, dressed in a suit. “Director…” “Where is Kirisaki-kun?” Akari looked down and reached inside her bag. Pulling out the buckle and three orbs, she looked at everyone with tears in her eyes. “Akari-chan…aren’t those-“ Akari handed them to the bearded man before he could finish. Walking over to the man at the desk, she saluted him and took a deep breath. “Agent 002H, Akari Fuudo, reporting! The mission was a success! The two Hostiles were defeated. One escaped, but the other has been successfully apprehended. However…” Akari sniffled. “Agent 001F, Takeru Kirisaki…was killed in action! The cause of death was several stab wounds to the abdomen, as well as a large incision from his pectorals to his abdomen…While he did remain conscious for a few more minutes, he eventually passed away from his injuries on the way to the hospital at 22:00PM…” Akari fell to her knees and began to cry. Everyone looked at her in disbelief at the news. The little girl ran up to her and began to wipe her eyes. “Akari…Akari…It’s going to be okay…” Even as she said that, the little girl had tears in her eyes as well. Hugging Akari, they both cried. “I’ve never seen Akari-chan cry before…” the bearded man said as he looked towards the two men at the seats- one of them punched a wall in anger while the other was talking to the teenage girl. The stern woman walked over to the bearded man and held her hand out to him. Taking it, the two walked over to the man at the desk and placed the buckle and orbs in front of him. “What do we do now sir?” “Inform his parents. They need to know what happened. Do not give them the full details.” The man at the desk got up and walked towards Akari. “Fuudo-kun. I need you to tell me, was there anything at the scene that stuck out?” Akari looked up at him and wiped her tears. “Just one phrase Director…” “What was that phrase?” “’There is no happily ever after.’ It was written there with a strange symbol.” “Symbol?...Hold on.” Walking back to his desk, he opened up one of the drawers and took out a file. Opening it, he scattered papers about until he found the one he needed. “Fuudo-kun, was this the symbol?” “Yes Director, that’s it.” “…I was afraid of this…Okay, effective immediately, we are to find a replacement to use the Fables System.” Walking back to his desk, the man picked up the buckle and orbs. “Replacement? Director, nobody could replace Takeru-Senpai!” “Yes, someone can. We can reconfigure the parameters set in the Fables System and hand it to someone with the same level of belief in fairy tales and folklore as Kirisaki-kun.” “But who could we get that would fit those requirements?!” The man smirked and laughed. “I already know who we’ll get,” he said, walking back to his desk, turning his computer screen to the others. “Who is that sir?” “My son.” PROLOGUE END. NEXT TIME ON KAMEN RIDER FABLES: ???: Whoa, this is amazing! ???: This will be pushing you to your limits. Akari: Just so you know, I don’t approve of you yet. ???: Leave her alone! ???: So you’re one of them, huh boy?! ???: Yeah…HENSHIN! Chapter 1: There Was A Boy
