Huh, that's a neat touch of the Yeti Megid actually becoming sapient on its own after Yuki was ejected. Didn't necessarily expect it, but I like that. Kinda sad that Saikou Shadow doesn't keep the translucent shadowy aspect, but I like that it still has the shadowy abilities. I also appreciate how they don't forget that Saikou himself is the sword, with them having Saikou turn to observe Touma, Rintaro, and the Yeti Megid.
I like that it's Daishinji who begins to question the "Touma betrayed them" narrative that Reika made, since he always seemed to be pretty neutral (and stated that he hated in-fighting). And with next episode coming up, I both am excited and worried, in that I hope he does join Touma's side, but I'm also wary that this might end up with Daishinji getting murdered or severely injured by Reika after the fight's finished, leading to her manipulating the SoL into thinking it was Touma who did it. Especially since they did duel. And I appreciate that Rintaro's the one that goes even deeper into thinking that Touma betrayed them, since his actions seemed like he was protecting the Yeti Megid, and that he fully believes that there is nothing wrong the SoL can do. If Rintaro keeps on listening to Reika, I'm sure that he'll end up being a permanent antagonist as he casts aside independent reasoning for blind loyalism. |

Why do I feel crimson dragon is toei's new favorite? He keep showing up, even more than brave dragon. I don't hate it, tho. Its my favorite form in the show.
---while typing it I just realize that maybe they just push the RKF selling since the toys is quite fresh and greatly accepted by kids overthere. |

I don't know if I should be mad or be laughing that this and last week's episode painted Touma as a moron, now that Yuri revealed that he can just cut down the Megido and it'll free the human easy.
On one hand, it elevates Yuri as a much more knowledgeable mentor-like figure to Touma, but on the other, this means the next episodes' MOTWs will have less impact now that they know an easy way to take care of them. However, I feel that it would be circumvented with next week's episode with all three of the generals going out to turn a lot of people into Megid. Giving Touma and SOL a time limit. Something about Yuri saying something about Saikou and Kurayami coming into contact with each other will create great power, makes me think this is attached to the creation of a weapon or a new rider form. Reika's insistence on getting Saikou (and possible having Kurayami in possession) leads to more chances of her becoming a rider. Now, while I'm a little disappointed that it's not Rintarou and Touma having a duel next week, tho that might come later, I'm still happy it was Daishinji. He's the second most fit to question Reika's motives and go out to find the answer himself. |

I feel like I'm only watching this because it has Kamen Rider in the title—or for Mei's wardrobe, which I'd like to steal.
I genuinely don't understand the pacing in this show. They introduce different Riders every other five minutes, and then they spend like a month on this snowman story, only to be all coy at the end like, "Oh, we were wasting your time, sorry, in fact there was a much easier way to resolve this." smh. |

Okay so I decided to watch 17 and 18 back to back since I usually watch Genm Corp subs and was mostly busy during the middle of the week.
So full thoughts on the Yeti Megid arc... I honestly love it and this is such a neat way to introduce our New Years/2nd Quarter Rider that I can't help but feel relieved after all the years of mostly antagonistic riders. And let me tell you for sure this was a breath of fresh air from Thouser. It's nice to just have a new "Rider" that really just only butts heads with Touma, and isn't straight antagonistic as we have had for the past several shows. I think what really helps this arc shine (pun intended) is because it's Yuri's introduction. He's such an intriguing character, one who's been missing for 1000 years, making the ultimate sacrifice of his body to protect the fabled Sword of Light by becoming the sword itself. To the point where he's behind on how humanity, how people have changed, and how it seems like his big arc will be regaining his humanity. Which is why I don't mind on how this was handled in regards to Yuri giving Touma the information. The dude clearly hasn't had any interaction for 1000 years, he's still used to his way of thinking. But I also like how there is clearly only two specific ways to beat a Human Megid now and neither are the standard, "Hit it with any finisher". Which circumvents my fear of "Oh they just need to hit it hard like always". 1. Wield Yuri as Saikou or just have him as Saikou cut the Megid down. The safe way. 2. Allow the new Alter Ride Book to complete and immediately destroy it. The risky version. I also don't really have a problem on how the Sword of Logos people are portrayed either because well, the show is clearly going in the direction of, "While they are a noble group, even they have issues and are not the actual solution" in it's narrative. Rintaro's flip flopping makes sense, I mean after all, the only reason he brought Touma to the Northern Base was because he was told to, otherwise he would have robbed Touma in Episode 2. And it was his interactions and time with Touma that made him warm up to him. Needless to say, this ties into my thoughts that Rintaro is going to be the last Sword of Logos member to join Touma. As we're getting into next week, it seems like Daishinji will be our first member to turn. Which would make sense, he is the tech/repair guy after all, and I doubt Touma can go too long without maintaining his sword and books. Ogami I see coming next, and honestly that would devastate both Ren and Rintaro. To the point where they tip in entirely different directions. Ren I totally see following the Megid or striking off on his own. Or who knows he could still stay with the SoL. Because it certainly seems like they're trying to set Reika up as giving Rintaro the usual Secondary Rider power up, except it ain't going to be a good one if it's from her. Needless to say I'm excited to see where things go from here. |

"If you want to save her, strike her down" turning out to mean exactly what it says on the tin was an outcome so predictable I kind of wrote it off in my mind last week, but here we are.
It just kind of strikes me a strange thing to base this plot around -- a dilemma that only exists in the characters' heads. Like, it definitely makes more sense now why it seemed like Touma was leaping to conclusions last week (it was entirely intentional writing!), but it only escalates something I was hoping wouldn't be a problem, which is how hard it can be to directly empathize with Touma here. I buy that Yuri isn't the easiest guy to get a clear answer from, and I know Touma himself can get very intense when on the subject of saving stuff, but, in stark contrast to why I like the overall traitor plot with Sword of Logos, it feels like something that could've been cleared up simply with one or two well-placed questions. That being said, it's all still rooted in character the same way everything else is right now, and I did enjoy that about the episode. I legitimately love how fired up Touma gets about protecting Yuki here, misunderstanding or not. I love having an entire two episode arc dedicated almost solely to showcasing how much weight a single life holds to the hero. After all, on a meta level, being a guy who saves people is part of why his name is Saber, so it felt very appropriate for the series. It's maybe specifically because of that I wish Touma had been in a position where he actually needed to bravely overcome impossible odds, but it was cool all the same. Plus, I'm still digging Saikou, so that's also quite nice. It seems they don't have the budget to put that filter over Shadow in every episode, but the less constant effects only called attention to how much work the suit actor is doing to still convey the idea that the sword itself is the one in control, always holding it so that Saikou's eyes are looking forward when walking, and generally being as unexpressive as possible. I would've darn impressed if they kept up stuff like not showing Shadow's shadow for the entire series, because that would obviously be way too much work, so it's good to know the low-budget alternative can still get the effect across. It's extremely important to this character's identity that the viewers don't start perceiving him as just another black Kamen Rider with yet another sword, and I hope they keep managing it this well.

—this from the guy who was chomping at the bit to fight Desast, who had to be literally pulled back because he was determined to fight to the last? And now he's talking like a second rate villain? Oy vey! *throws hands up in the air* Ah, stan Buster, I guess? lol. Also, I'm assuming that Desast is living it up on the same tropical island that Sophia is on, enjoying his holidays, for all that we've seen him lately. |

I don't see how "Pull back for now" after they got their asses kicked by a sentient sword is a "second rate villain line" but go off I guess.
Oh Fish reminded me though, I was so busy gushing about Yuri as a character I didn't gush about Saikou Shadow! While I was not expecting the filter to last much longer, I do like that they are sticking to the Shadow Body being just that. Not to mention how whenever Saikou reacts, we see the sword itself reacting and not the Shadow body. It's just a way to wield Saikou more efficiently, and everyone is so used to striking at a human shape, that they forget in this case the person is the sword. Gotta love hitboxes am I right? I just loved how Legiel was throwing everything he had at Shadow, only for everything to pass through as it got closer to swing the actual person in charge. |

I can buy him being dumb enough to fool for the South Pole line, but I can't buy him being a wimp, basically. This is, in a nutshell, my entire issue with Saber; not enough care is given to the characterisation, it's all just broad strokes to suit the tone of whatever story is being filmed that week, regardless of whether it contradicts prior events. Look, I just really like Buster and I feel bad for him having such a rubbish storyline, okay? |
