Agito Episode 9
That is a very good question Ryou. I don't know when it'll receive an answer however. But it is indeed a very good question that I believe we are all curious about. You know amnesia doesn't really account for slowness. Seriously Shouichi how did you not realize immediately that it was for you? The professor already has a job, Mana's a teenager, and Taiichi isn't even old enough to have a job. How could you not put two and two together? Look you're a nice guy, a really nice guy. But dude get your shit together and start thinking. Out of every Rider show I have seen, you're fast becoming my least favorite main rider in both suit and character. How can you be so dumb? There isn't anything wrong with a character being slow or not all that bright (Shinji says hi). But dude you're really slow. Please start using your brain. Well hot damn Houjou. You went through that training exercise like it was nothing but a G thang. I may like Hikawa better as a character, but I'd say going off of just the training session, you're the better fighter of those who have been G3. I hope you do well in battle! Mana you're not alone, I don't really get it either...persay. I think the gist of what he's saying is that he wants to wake up everyday and have it be something completely new. But still the way he worded it and saying he wants it to be like amnesia is just, weird and confusing. She's the Unknown of the episode isn't she? Wasn't he investigating criminals anyways? I mean now they'll be human criminals and not monsters, but the monsters committed crimes. That makes them criminals. And he investigated them. So doesn't that pretty much mean he was in criminal investigation before, and he's been re-assigned to the same job, except without the monsters? I have a headache. They're going to end up being a couple aren't they? Yeah...they're going to end up being together. Why else would she make being cute so important? Actually she could just be a superficial bitch who only judges people by their appearance regardless of their skills. You know let's just leave it alone for now. The issues obviously being that they don't want to eat bugs. Who wouldn't want to go to a ramen stand? Ramen is the shit! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh shit. I see the plan as clear as day. Somebody wants to set up Shouchi. Now you have my interest show. You have it by the balls. WATER! This Unknown is so fucking bad looking that it's good looking. That head, just I'm just going to assume that they went to the professor's house first to get an idea of where Shouchi was going. Because if they didn't that means I'd give myself a slight headache thinking of how they knew where he was. D'awwwwwww yeah, Bad ass song plus bad ass suit means it's time for a bad ass fight scene. Give me all you got Agito! Give me all you got! That was...epic. Well that was episode nine. And I do believe like episode 4, it has grabbed my interest very well right when I was ready to drop the show. Will 10 keep my interest? I don't know yet. But anywho onto episode 9's analysis. The story was here and it wasn't that bad. Nothing really spectacular, but it wasn't terrible. The whole story revolving around Shouchi in an important way was nice to see and while it was fairly predictable, it still had you sitting near the edge of your seat. It moved along a pretty nice pace so I have no real issues with it. There was some stuff to the main plot, mostly just Houjou becoming G3 though to be frank. Overall I thought it was a nice story that kept you entertained, and grabbed your interest in the later moments. The character development department though was lacking in my opinion. I know it would be easy to say Ozawa was developed for stating her reasons why she prefers Hikawa, but let's face it, it's a completely stupid reason. So guess what? I'm not counting it as character development. So yeah, I honestly didn't spot any real development here. Now the action though, oh boy did that develop. It developed into being great. Finally I got a G3 fight I've been wanting. Just the man in the suit kicking total ass. Not only that, but it wasn't a bad fight to begin with anyways. Coupled with the fact that the G3 suit finally delivered an ass whoppin, I personally say that the action was just plain awesome. So in the end, I'd say this was a really nice episode. It had a story which get really interesting in the second half, and finally delivered a great G3 fight.

SkyRider episode 1
Okay, Showa Rider is pretty cool. A lot of shit happened to this guy. His friends died, the scientist's associate got killed and he got turned into a Cyborg. I just love the 80s fist fight action yet it still has a dark story that entirely fits into 1 episode. I love the Skyrider suit, its a cool mix of flying bug and the technological cyborg stuff. Its really cheesy to see SkyRider flying around in front of the old green scene effects. But, I'd rather have that the Wizard All-Dragon CGI shit. Its sad to see that only 31 episodes of this subbed. |

Agito Episode 10
Never run from the cops in a situation like this Shouichi. It will only make them think you did in fact commit the crime. Besides you have nothing to hide. So just go down to the station and talk to them and it'll be over fairly quickly. "Trust me he has it alright. I've hung around him and the people he's staying with. They've all told me that he has it. Plus he can barely remember some easy shit. So yeah, he has amnesia alright." Exactly. What exactly could you do Mana? Just let the Professor call up his lawyer and let him handle it. Shouchi will be fine. Besides this a children's show, the only thing you could even possibly do would not be suitable for the audience. Houjou may be a bit of a dick, but you got to admit he knows how to treat his team. I'd gleefully put up with him if it meant going out to a fancy dinner after every mission. Shit be cool yo. You know they've got to be thinking "Did this guy really murder somebody?" Shouchi you dumb ass. Be happy you're even getting tea...and pork with rice. Lucky dick. Did Mana skip school to visit Shouchi? Or did she come here straight after school ended? So she pretty much just revealed that she has psychic powers? Alright then. I would say I'm shocked that Hikawa believes her, but the bit with the license and the fact that he was working on murder cases with a supernatural feel to them makes it a bit hard to believe he'd be completely shocked. Maybe a little surprised that somebody does in fact of special powers, but not shocked. "Eh let's give it a shot. I mean what's the worst that can happen if we believe in the 'psychic powers' of a teenage girl whose trying to clear the name of a friend of hers?" So is Ryou in on the whole Akatsuki incident? Because if he isn't, why even bring it up if it's suppose to be top secret? And if he never heard of it before, why didn't he question it? I take it our octopus friend is growing? I will say though that the noises it's making are fairly annoying. She drove it here didn't she? Nobody stopped her because why exactly? Mana is a lucky, lucky girl that she didn't get involved in an accident or pulled over for speeding. If she would have her butt would be in jail right about now. Where exactly does Houjou change into the leather suit at on the trailer? Do the other two just watch him as he undresses? That's a bit awkward if that is indeed the case. But I guess they have to be use to it considering it comes with the job. "Fuck you I'm G3 bitch!" Pussy! You were kicking ass in the last episode no problem. So do so here! I know you're shocked that the Unknown isn't dead, and I'm sure that dealt a blow to your ego since you walked around high on your own hype for believing you killed it. But come on Houjou, get your shit together and fight! Oh gee what a shocker! Except you can clearly tell it's him when they find him in the train car. Well that was episode 10. It was a fairly nice episode. It continued the story from 10 and while the outcome was pretty predictable, it still was a nice ride. I didn't really see a whole lot in terms of character development, so that's a knock against the episode. And unfortunately the action stunk. This show can't make up it's damn mind when it comes to the action department. Overall it wasn't a bad episode, just a typical Agito one. So the big question is will I continue to watch Agito? Eh may as well. But I'm doing so on an episode by episode basis. If it continues to be lackluster save for the rare episode, I may just end up dropping it. Hopefully it starts getting it's shit together.

Reading your reviews of the episodes, I've got to ask: why do you expect character development in every single episode? Or rather, why do your posts make it seem as if a lack of it in every episode is a bad thing?
Character development is the progression of a character through any given arc. In a year long series, you're often going to need to pad out the major events and growth your characters go through. I think that as long as an episode furthers either the development or the plot, it's fine. It's when you get to those episodes where neither happens that you run into the so-called "filler" territory. With a show that runs so long, you don't want to exhaust all of the territory your characters can cover within a short span of time. If your show does that, you'll eventually hit that area where either nothing happens or the central story doesn't actually matter because it's not impacting anyone. Granted, one of my biggest complaints with Agito is that you can do the show in 26~39 episodes and have it be written much tighter, but with the reality of what's going on, it's difficult to craft a show that can sustain itself with something new and important happening in every single episode. Once the mysteries start being uncovered it becomes a fantastic show, but due to its nature of running for a year, you do need to move things along at a slower pace. (this is why sometimes I have to roll my eyes at the episodic nature of the Garo shows, even the third series, which I loved) |

I tend to bring it up just to state if I found in or not, and this discuss it. If there isn't any then I state it. Regardless of it being episodic you'll still find some every so often. I'm aware not every episode can have it or be exciting. However I can still bring it up regardless.

Decade 14.
It looks like Den-O never ends up making sense, from child Hana to apparently there being multiple Den-O drivers I dunno what is going on but his episode was just really, really fun. Not earth shattering by any stretch of the imagination but just high energy fun. The Imagin allowed our core trio to all let loose and get some really great stuff to do, and although none of it is ultimately very meaningful and isn't going to reinvent the show it was highly entertaining in a personal sort of way. Although Natsumi Den-O with an obvious penis is gonna give me nightmares for a Decade and I'm still frustrated that KUUGA has spent more time as Den-O and G3-X than he has as well...Kuuga. Like why shaft possibly the most iconic and beloved Rider in the whole franchise? I know it's not Godai, but I'd thought you'd be milking the powers all the same for maximum merch. The biggest question I was left with though, was "What sucks more on a visual level, Den-O or Agito?" Agito is like a Korean knockoff Kuuga so you would think it was the obvious winner, but Den-O is more of a waste as the individual Imagin are much more interesting visually than they ever are as Den-O forms. Decisions, decisions...

A good chunk of the way into Den-O, Hana's actor left the show. So they made some wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey explanation that reverted her to a child. They pulled the same stunt when Ryoutaro's actor wouldn't come back for the post-series movies.
The multiple Den-O belts were VERY briefly explained in the one post-series movie Ryoutaro's actor did appear in. Owner made them. Yeah. He just made them. So the whole thing about there needing to be a specific person as Den-O just kind of vanished when explaining things became too hard. |

At least they brought back the actor that played Ryotaro as a kid in the first Den-O movie. That was a nice bit of continuity.
