Godzilla SP just arrived on Netflix outside of Japan this month and what did you think of the show? I like it, but I didn't love it. The characters are fine and the story was interesting. Godzilla didn't show up until much later in the show and most of the dialogue is exposition. Having the show be called "The Adventures of Jet Jaguar" would have been better in my opinion..
I would probably rate it a 7/10. I still had fun watching it and I hope for a Season 2.

I... think this was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I watched it over two days; I couldn't stop and only did because of sleep and work. Much like the plot of this show it’s hard to put into words what I love about it, but everything just worked for me.
It’s honestly amazing that such a show exists; it really pushes the envelope of what Godzilla can be. What stories can be told with its legacy. As much as Shin Godzilla was perfectly true to what made Godzilla a movie icon and modernized its core to great success, Singular Point takes nothing of what Godzilla ever really wanted to be and in turn uses it to bring its original message to life in an even greater way than Shin did, than Shin ever could. It's something that should not exist yet does, and most people will never truly know it. Or I'm just crazy enough to fully synchronize with the batshit insane stuff happening in this show. Yes, it's most likely that. |

I actually saw this as it aired, funny enough. I do plan on watching it again at some point. But for what it's worth, I loved it!
Like I said in my post on the Anime thread, my only complaint, is that on paper it sounds like Shin Godzilla with more monsters, which isn't bad, but it's a little difficult to ignore, and that most of the show is just exposition. But I really enjoyed it for what it was, being something new and different, moving away from nuclear allegories while still feeling like Godzilla. Jet Jaguar, need I say more. And the references, the ending especially, not only a great song, but all the easter eggs had me so happy. Truly, this was the Godzilla Anime I wanted, maybe not exactly what I thought, but still excellent, making this probably my top 5 Godzilla pieces of media. I would be ecstatic for a second season, or something new altogether, because seeing Toho trying to push the boundaries of Godzilla, embracing new ideas and concepts, and constantly experimenting is something I'm always glad to see. |
