This is very tragic and sad. We lost a legend today. Maybe he didn't refine television, maybe he wasn't making people laugh away their problems - but for those who love Science Fiction, he was a hero, an icon, and someone who helped give those of us who are nerds/geeks someone to connect to who was incredibly important for his friends - something I know a lot of us struggled with growing up.
RIP Leonard Nimoy. It's not that we mourn your loss as you wouldn't want that - but we cannot help but be overcome with sadness for the giant void in our hearts. Enjoy exploring the new frontier you've gone to.

I recall watching the original Star Trek at 10 pm every night on TV for a few years before I went to bed for school in the morning. It was such a great show, and I loved the movies. To know of Leonard Nimoy's passing...
It's truly saddening, bit I like to think he's up there in the heavens now trading stories again with DeForest Kelly (Dr. McCoy) and James Doohan (Scotty). LLAP

there's 2 things Leonard Nimoy did:
Lived long, and prospered. RIP Leonard Nimoy. you are an icon whose legacy will last ages. you will be missed greatly by many. I feel it's only fitting we at least show this scene once in this thread.

That scene is pretty much what I thought of. Mr Nimoy's Spock defined a whole generation of sci-fi, showing us aliens could be strange, yet utterly human and relatable.
Quote:
Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most ... human.

As a scientist myself I can not help feeling sorry for this. Im old enough to remember mr. Nimoy's role as host for the mystery series of the late 70s and early 80s In search of... and as well his role of mr. Spock and his voice work for my favorite strategy game Sid Meier's Civilization IV.
As many had already quoted his eponymous phrase from Star Trek universe, live long and prosper. i would like to add... Although you were not an official scientist or researcher, im sure that all of us see you as an honorary one due your work not only on tv but offscreen as well. It was because of the work of people's like you that many children around the world also became fascinated with science and knowledge that made them to follow that road in their lives. Farewell friend.
