Not impressed with stickers, but they can also claim that this is supposed to bring back nostalgia, but still... for the asking price, premium it up a bit.
On the other hand, Gridman Gunpla is quite pricy as well for what those are. The price would feel more justified if the base figure had more articulation. It's like somewhere between a basic Marvel figure to a Marvel Legend. Not bad, but not all that great. Still holding out for Evolution Toys classic Gridman, but would like to see a review first before pulling the trigger on yet another high priced item. |

Well. I have the set in hand. I'm sad to report that it's a mess. I'm in the middle of shooting a full gallery and review for the site to elaborate my thoughts on it. But the short of it is, it's bad.
The core Gridman figure itself is pitifully small. About a head shorter than any Figuart or comparable 1/12 figure. If you want a nicely scaled version of just Gridman, the upcoming Figma looks like the real winner. Gridman has very poor articulation and what is there isn't particularly useful either. Hands fall out of the wrist joints easily, making holding Samurai Calibur very difficult. Vehicles look nice at a glance, but parts pop off easily and freely. Plastic feels very cheap and inadequate. Locking mechanisms are iffy at best resulting in an unstable and floppy full power combo. The afformentioned label sheet is such a ridiculous switcheroo. Revealing it just prior to release when it was suggested through out the entire production process that these were paint apps and not labels, is incredibly shady. Labels are of somewhat decent quality but eventually will fail. Likewise the articulated hands having to be built is another stupidly kept secret. Building models is one thing. But in a figure set that's nearly $150 after shipping, having to build part of it is just unacceptable. The same can be said for the orange hoses that have to be cut off sprues and added by the buyer. To top off all of this, I ordered two of these sets. One for myself, one for another local friend. Wouldn't you know it, when I opened mine, the articulated stage arm was just missing. So there's no way to properly use the included display base with my core Gridman. Granted the other one I ordered did have all it's parts, but honestly on a set this pricey and supposedly of a premium nature, a part was missing? Out of the two I bought one was incomplete, wo how many more are like mine? I've certainly never had that happen with a Bandai product of this calibur before. This is a shoddy release that was delayed multiple times and appears at the last second to have simply cut costs as much as possible resulting in a pretty sub par set that no one, and I mean no one, should pay full price for.

Well that's 100 bucks wasted then. Should’ve expected no less from Goodsmile.
I guess I don’t even open it, put the sealed box in storage and wait a few decades until I get the MSRP back... Man I really wish someone else would’ve gotten the license. The DX release is crap and the figmas all look like shit. Except the girls of course, but that's all Goodsmile puts any effort into anyways. |

Got my set. Stickered everything. Didn't bother with the hands yet, just wanted to try the set's combinations and functionality.
Now I will give GSC the benefit of the doubt in some aspects. They've never done a set like this before, so it not being perfect I partially (ONLY PARTIALLY) understand. The engineering on some aspects of the set are really interesting and work well when in use. The assist weapons all look good (Once actually detailed) and the solo combo modes, Max and Sky Gridman mainly, do look good and can hold poses. Also the box is gorgeous. That all said this set is a massive, massive disappointment. Gridman's base figure isn't well-articulated which I assume is mainly to keep stability in other forms from being compromised but there are ways around that nowadays. Full Powered Gridman feels shaky and the instructions for it are laid out in a way that literally expects you to cram things into tighter and tighter spaces the more you add onto it. Some connections don't feel secure in the slightest, Sky Gridman's combination being the weakest in terms of feeling stable despite looking fairly impressive. Some of the sticker spots are ridiculous, such as having to sticker every panel on the inside of Buster Bor's drills which add up to 24 stickers alone. Like this set should have been at the very least 30 to 40 dollars cheaper than it is. This doesn't feel like something I paid premium prices for, which after all the really good promotional pictures and the wait it took to actually get it, is the biggest insult. |

Regardless, the only other option for Gridman at this point in time is the Actibuilder, but that one, while it does incorporate the tubes and is fully painted, is smaller and flimsier. So pick your poison, I guess... |

Look, neither is a good option. Both are objectively bad. The DX may be one of very few mecha they've ever done, but that's no excuse for the kinds of corners they've cut on this thing.

I've gone from anticipating to dreading my order. With both this and the Actbuilder releases apparently being a bust, I feel like I should have just waited for the Super Mini-Pla release.

And even the Super Mini-Pla costs 10,000 yen and will require a ton of work to look remotely worth that asking price. The Thunder and King Gridman sets both have a ton of stickers and the grey plastic they use in place of silver is pretty ghastly, don’t see why this version will be any different even if it is functional.
All of the options seem to come with pretty massive flaws, and for a show this popular it’s just flat out weird.
