I think there's only one thing that's bugging me.
What were the Gundari? Like no seriously, what were those things? |

Okay, so that was definitely better than Faiz's ending. It's a low bar, but it's an important one to clear and Ghost at least managed that.
It was an all right ending, I guess. Nothing too special, nothing too awful. A lot of it felt pretty rushed and it had Ghost's usual habit of not fully explaining everything (has Infinite form always had random-ass powers that make no sense or is that new?), but it at least ended with a solid victory and some okay character wrap-up (and terrible, terrible flying CGI). The biggest things that stuck with me: - Gotta love how smoothly executed that Ex-Aid cameo was. Totally fit with the narrative flow and had major repercussions for the rest of the episode. - Onari barely had any lines and that is always a good thing. - I guess parental love was kind of a theme in this show? Ghost dad looked super damn bored, though. - What's with the random orange and black form Takeru pulled out at the end? Kinda late to be debuting new forms, show (in fairness, it does look vaguely familiar, but I can't remember seeing it on the show ever). - So the old man had an actual crazy old sage costume lying around, complete with wig? Why? And why did he feel the need to change into it? - I was wrong; the show did remember Javert. It also remembered headband dude from those two episodes. Apparently Mr. Bills was not important enough to bring back, though. - What happened to the other twin? (S?)he was nowhere to be seen here. - I assume the Ganmeisers immediately revived yet again after the credits rolled. Only one episode left. Halle-fucking-lujah. |

You mean his first form? I mean it's been a while but I didn't think it was that forgettable. It had a nice look to it.

I think I finally figured out how to put my main problem with Ghost into words. This is slightly off-topic since it isn't so much about this episode, but I can't think of a better thread to put this in so here we go.
It doesn't feel like it has a real heart to me. The only things about the characters I empathize with are so cliche as to be practically superficial. The show feels very dull and preachy. I can honestly, without any spiteful exaggeration, say that I enjoyed Wizard more. When I think about Wizard, I think about Nitoh's earnest shenanigans, or the comically stoic Haruto, or the looming (albeit predictable) threat of the Phantoms. When I think about Drive, I think about Chase's struggle with being a good guy, or Shinnosuke's classic heroism (for some reason Shinnosuke stands out to me as more of a "hero" than a lot of Riders), or all the weekly Roidmude mysteries. When I think of Ghost, I'll think of Takeru looking indecisive with a white glowy filter, and Mugen no Kanosei. That's pretty much it, until I start thinking about the logistics of what I actually don't like about the show again. I don't want to get too specific since my problem is an abstract one. The show just feels bored with itself, like it's just trucking through its episodes occasionally throwing out a mildly interesting idea that it got tired of. Kind of like it was written by someone who was really excited and had a bunch of cool ideas he wanted to sew into a great story, but someone convinced him that it wouldn't work, but he still had the job so he just kinda threw it together, disappointed, using pieces of the ideas he liked the best and not really caring enough to explain them. But anyway, in a word, the show feels empty to me. I can't really explain it that well, but it doesn't feel as sunny and warm as Drive, Wizard, or others do. I think part of it is the characters being too preoccupied with telling each other how great Takeru is, or talking about how they're going to deal with the next boring problem. They feel very one-dimensional, like they, as characters, are tied to the story's plot points/problems, giving them depressing connotations when I think about them. When I think about any of the characters, I can't think of any characterful, interesting moments with them. I just think of mundane scenes where they talk about problems. Takeru floating in whiteness talking to voices, Alain kind of grabbing a villain to hold him off while yelling, Makoto standing there thinking about problems, Akari sounding worried and optimistic at the same time while talking to somebody about problems, Onari holding his hands up awkwardly while making an exaggerated face at the current problem, etc. When I think about a character from any other Rider show, I don't get such dull connotations from them. I'd list some examples, but that'd be like the fiftieth time I've done that in this post, heh. This post is becoming kind of a mess, I keep thinking of ways to word things and having realizations as I write it. So yeah, I'm pretty sure that's my problem with Ghost. It gives me very dull vibes as a result of the way its characters are handled, I guess. I want to say it's not exactly the characters, it's the vibe of the show, but that's largely dictated by the characters so I guess they are the main problem.

This was the weakest Rider finale I have ever seen. I liked next to nothing about it. It never even felt like a real finale to me.
Takeru's mom was really shoehorned into this cheap, like damn. For one I'm glad that she didn't turn out to be the Ganma queen, but the pay-off was not worth it. Like, the message is sweet, don’t get me wrong, if someone grows up never knowing their mom seeing her like this is a gift of unbelievable love, but in the point of the show it didn’t feel like that this was the puzzle piece Takeru needed to win. This should’ve been handled in a side-plot much earlier, and they could’ve had some Harry Potter-thingy going on in the finale how the spirits of Takeru’s parents protect him one last time or something which triggers this flashback. I didn’t feel the side characters either, they did what they were always doing and it felt cheap and fake to me like it always did, and Javel sacrificing himself was terrible. Not sure if it was worse than Igor’s love sacrifice, but at least equally bad. I don’t know what else to say, the whole thing was bad. The CGI monster was shit, the last battle was cool I guess but I wouldn’t even call it much of a battle, and the last shot was okay I guess. Then there’s the badly implemented crossover element. Just stop. It’s always bad. Like, Genmu or whatever he’s called was cool, the bicycle action was awesome, but I would rather wait a month and see this in the show it belongs to. Same with the next episode which will be another complete mess. Can they not wait to advertise the next season toys in their fucking shows? Jesus. Also, another little thing: The explanation behind Yurusen is okay I guess, but that cat was fucking terrified and angry. They probably couldn’t find a professionally trained animal so they took one of the crew members' cats and that’s just terrible. Poor cat. But, and I want to close with this: The ending must've been really awesome for that Japanese kid who was (is? hopefully not!) terribly ill and watched Ghost in the hospital. I really hope he was at home watching the finale; it would really cheer him up. I hope he returned to his normal life like Takeru did, if that kid died I'll be really sad. |

.....Ok.......Wow. Just....WOW. RANT INCOMING.
THIS WAS SERIOUSLY THE BEST THEY COULD DO?!?! There are SO MANY ISSUES with this finale, the heck were they thinking?!! 1. Could they bother to explain just who or what Frey was in-universe?!! They just leave it to the audience to assume she's some sort of avatar for the Great Eye or something??? But even that could be wrong & be something else....And I love how Takeru just has NO reaction to seeing her there, like as if he knew all this time... -__- Actually now that I think about it, maybe he DID know while he was dead before being revived for Mugen, and met her then.....but then that goes into another question.... 2. WTF IS THE MUGEN EYECON?!?! And NO, before people start quoting the news articles, what's bad is that the ACTUAL STORY doesn't explain that!!! And this Episode, the Mugen Eyecon just disappears.....WHY?!! Because Takeru learned his last Emotion?! LOL I don't think they put much thought into this Final Form, honestly....But speaking of Mugen.... 3. They pretty much state that Takeru was evolving into....whatever the heck the Great Eye was??? Or was Frey referring to herself? Well that'd be cool & all....if we actually KNEW HOW THESE GUYS FUNCTIONED.... 4. Can someone explain to me just what the Sage transformed into Dark Ghost for?!! I mean, honestly, I don't see why the writers had to do this honestly, if in the end he wouldn't even use those powers to fight. Alia at least attempted something while having brief Kamen Rider powers....but when the CGIclops showed up, he was sitting around cowering.....SIGH, ya know, seeing the Sage like this, I miss back when he was Edith....At least back then he actually was active..... 5. Makoto & Alain---ok, now that I think about it, EVERYONE BUT TAKERU CONTRIBUTED NEXT TO NOTHING TO THIS FINAL BATTLE!!! MY GOSH, talk about making your protagonist a Gary Stu, THIS IS JUST.....Specter & Necrom just got to fight FRICKIN GRUNTS while Takeru got the big battle.....WOW. 6. OK, I held this off too long. The CGIclops....OK, the Greateyezer comes out & first thing he does is....Well first, priority goes to turning night to day!!! OMG, what a GREAT display of power.... -__- But yea, the first action of combat this thing does is transform into that huge thing?!! Come on now...!!! Show off some ground combat first & save something that huge for a LAST RESORT...!!! 7. Takeru's whole stupid MOM ORDEAL.....SO THEY WAITED UNTIL NOW TO CLOSE THIS SUBPLOT.....AND IT. WAS. LAAAAAAAAAME. You're SERIOUSLY gonna pull Takeru finally remembering his Mom NOW OF ALL TIMES, with NO REAL SIGNIFICANCE to the time of this reveal, just for some cliche protagonist motivation to get back up & fight again?!! (Which BTW, Takeru just sitting there tired & saying "Sorry I couldn't stop him" was just WEAK. There have been worse situations where the protagonist was at a point where they felt helpless....) Just to go & ONE-SHOT THE FRICKIN THING.....WOW. And since we're on the topic of his mom.....Wanna explain why the heck Takeru can talk to his father now too all of a sudden?! Know how much more interesting it'd have been if the Tokon Boost Eyecon's Hoodie actually acted as Takeru's father & communicated with him just like all the other Eyecons?!! 8. OH, but they're gonna make it up for us with a ground fight, right?! Well....I'm not gonna lie, they.....SORTA did. I will say, seeing base form Ghost in action after so long was refreshing, and I did like all the Legendary Eyecons helping out in fighting......but still, REALLY, the Greateyezer put up literally NO FIGHT?!! This was WAY TOO EASY overall for Takeru. 9. Cubi, the Maestro Ganma & Javel.....coming back.....for NOTHING. Javel especially had potential, but....just like Igor, they dump in an action that is out of character. Yes, Javel was on the path to becoming good, but GEEZ this is rushing it...Was waiting for something a little more meaningful to come out of their wandering, but.... 10. THE SAGE's COFFIN WAS IN THE TEMPLE THE WHOLE TIME IN THE CLEAR. AND NOBODY KNEW?!! STRAIGHT-UP PLOTHOLE. 11. Soooooooo....Takeru's wish....YUP. NOBODY DIES FOR GOOD IN THIS SHOW, CONFIRMED. Not just the heroes & civilians, but the FRICKIN GANMA ENEMIES AS WELL. O hey there again, Gyro, where've you been? >__> There are many more issues, but these are pretty much the biggest I could immediately point out. Overall, Ghost has now become one of, if not, the worst Kamen Rider Series. And it really, REALLY frustrates me to say so, due to just how much hype I had for this show when it first started!!! I LOVED the designs, I LOVED the concepts.....and then the story didn't deliver. Takuro Fukuda, you have some SERIOUS work to do if you wanna continue writing stories like this....

I'm really curious what you're going to sound like once you finish Faiz... It's a metaphor, mostly. Is it really so wrong of a show inherently dealing in the mystical not to explain everything in detail? Nobody except for Takeru's parents, Fumi, Adonis, Adel...

That's pretty much it, until I start thinking about the logistics of what I actually don't like about the show again. Not much of a finale. No emotional weight behind it. I recall someone saying that Gaim had a weak finale but I disagree and will compare the Ghost finale to the Gaim. In Gain, there was an emotional sense of the world being at stake, at least in my opinion. Kaitou had grown alongside Kouta and even worked with him on certain occasions. Seeing him turn monstrous for the sake of his ideals is saddening. The final fight between Kouta and Kaito felt less like a fight between two men and more like a clash between two titans. All because of the emotional weight present in the story. Ghost has a enemy that sprang almost out of nothingness (I understand that the suit is from the 100 Eyecons movie and Frey/Freya is from the web series but since they aren't from the main storyline, I consider their appearance jarring), which transforms into a gigantic yellow cyclops which Takeru can't defeat and then all of a sudden, he can just because he remembered his mother. I would have accepted that as well if only they hadn't brought her so late in the story. As such, her involvement seemed almost pointless to me even if her appearance allowed Takeru to defeat Ganmeiser/Exsaizer/Freya/Whatever the heel it was. On the brighter side, boy am I so glad we got to see Genm. was Genm, right? Or was it Ex-Aid? I think it was Genm. If Ghost has done anything right, its that it had made a splash of color masquerading as a superhero look much more awesome then it had any right to be. |

Is there a joke I'm missing in there or are you seriously asking?
Either way, no. It's more like the opposite, really, given that the Ganma don't have Eyecons anymore.
