For clarity, the reason Zox’s Turboranger gear summons Blue Turbo is a reference to an episode of Turboranger entitled “The Sixth Hero”, wherein a wimpy nerd steals Blue Turbo’s Turbo Brace and manages to make it work and fight decently well with it (setting up a self-confidence moral).
Also, I wonder why Toei seems to associate speed with the Turborangers, given that almost none of their powers or moves are actually speed related (despite the name of the show) |

So they saddled the speed power up to Turboranger.

They used Turboranger here just because 'Turbo' is in the name. I thought it was really funny when Secchan lampshaded that the Turborangers don't actually do any of the stuff the gear did. Just roll with it, and don't think too hard about it!
Really exciting debut for TwoKai-Oh! That insert song sounded pretty samurai-y, so I wonder if each form is going to have their own song? Also I guess Battle Ceasar Robo showed up too to not do anything. As for the story, feels like we're entering that arc of "new guy interacts a little with everyone else bit by bit". I dunno if the single conversation that Zox has with Zyuran and Magine here counts as bonding, but I'm confident its just the first step to him warming up to the team as a whole. |

Finally caught on once again! Absolutely growing into Stacy. He doesn't have my favorite suit, that goes to Twokaiser who is my all-time favorite so far in all aspects, but I am very interested in Stacy's deal.
Now, can I please have a model kit of his mecha? None of the mecha suits so far besides the Zenkaigers themselves in just their giant modes but this is a greatest thing I've ever seen! I need to see the concept art for this, with the proper proportions and joints and all! |

Anyone noticed that they only have 2 outdoor locations for this episode, the bridge and the park by the lake? I wonder if covid is affecting them again.
Anyhow Turboranger so far is the most-used Sentai Gear at the moment. And pretty sure Carranger will be another gag-based power, probably forcing the Zenkaigers to adhere to traffic safety. I wish Super Robot Chogokin would make a comeback, or even Robot Damashiis, because I really want the figures of the mechas in this show (Ryusoulger's too).

I may have had some unrealistic expectations for this one based on the preview. I mean, it was Stacey coming back with his Battle Caesar Robo in tow (Battle Caesar Robo; yup, still made by geniuses!), and I suppose I expected some sort of ironic reversal of Twokaiser's debut where Zox would have the spotlight totally stolen from him in the end in favor of a cliffhanger ending where Stacaesar puts the team in a huge pinch. Not only does that not happen, this is maybe the first episode to just... not bother with the cliffhanger at all? Kind of sad, considering that having those constantly was one of the many pieces of this show's energetic identity. I mean – and I've been trying to find a chance to mention this forever – during those recaps at the start? The flashing images in the borders are literally the entire previous episode speeding by start to finish in however many frames. I figured the need for a twist to leave on each time would be too limiting to the writing to keep up, but it fit the show so perfectly it's a shame that, best case scenario, it's no longer a consistent feature. And you know, it probably sounds like I'm disappointed in this one now, but when I say the show didn't match my expectations, I only mean exactly that. What I got instead, I loved every bit as much as usual. That roll call gag, for example. The show may be struggling to do/uninterested in cliffhangers already, but I am frankly shocked how many variations they keep finding on scenes of the team introducing themselves. And this one is so dense, too! Look at Kaito realizing he needs an extra finger! Look at Gaon being the only one to not react to Twokaiser being in the line! Look at him after Twokaiser walks off gesturing at Zox to come back as though he were a shy puppy in case you don't understand why it's funny that Gaon is the only one not bothered by Twokaiser being in the line! I mention the rich detail in this show all the time, and it's because there's always SO much of it. It's so hard not to just start listing off every single line of dialogue or bit of comedic timing I found amusing. (And I've probably said that before too!) There's obviously an overall plot here, which can basically be summed up as the Magine, Zyuran, and Zox getting stuck in an episode of Kamen Rider Drive without a Shift Car, but once again, I don't think this is an episode that succeeds because of its deep character insights or thrill-a-minute twists or anything like that. Stacey ends up accomplishing little, and I don't think you get a much better idea of Zox's family dynamic. But the execution is so entertaining that none of that ends up being a real problem, and I actively want to be upset that I'm not getting enough Stacaesar action. The big thing is that, as I've already been talking about, the characters in this show always have such strong personalities that them doing just about anything becomes fun to watch. I will gladly listen to Zyuran complain endlessly about Twokaiser cramping his style, and if Magine is there too, then all the better! Once again, Tasaki's direction is also on point, doing a lot to elevate that thin story. Right away, I loved how many different "facial" expressions you get out of Zyuran and Magine in that initial scene with all the kids. The show doesn't make super extensive use of that idea of blacking out different parts of the eyes on those suits, so it's a treat to see them making the extra effort there. And from there on, it's just a ton of fun visuals, like the dramatic stage lighting making it clear Zyuran's summation of everyone's attitudes towards the pirates is more of a visualization than a proper flashback, or Twokaiser's botched heroic entrance. You even get a giant robot fight in the rain! What's not to love here!?

Another week, another fun episode from Zenkaiger.
I find it funny how the kids were more into TwoKaiser, as expected from the new Hero debut, and for sure, TwoKaiOh Cuttaner had a solid debut. And his theme song was pretty neat, but from what I can make out from the song, it's TwoKaiOh's theme and not Cuttaner's specifically, unless I'm just dumb and missed it, though I'd expect something more in line with Shinkenger's theme or something more Samurai-esque for his theme, but I loved it all the same. Battle Caesar Robo (They're not even trying to hide the Battle Fever J reference) is such a great looking mech, would love to own it. A shame it didn't get to show off as much as I would have liked, but I'm sure it will get some more spotlight in the future. TurboRanger's power makes everything go turbo and Secchan questioning it was pretty funny considering he(or she) didn't question Kyuranger's absurd luck, and Snail World making everything slow, then becoming hard when he got big was still amusing to see, especially when Barashitara was yelling at it from a distance and his banter with the Kuddack. And of course, the roll call once again being one of the highlights with them trying to get TwoKaiser to join them, and then being like "Then don't line up!" was very funny. I almost expected something like them doing their roll call, in slow motion, while TwoKaiser beat Snail World, ten joining up with them during the giant fight, but that's fine. Next Week: It's the fallen Tojitendo Gear Reunion! |
