No, seriously though, yes, they are raw because they are from my Region 2 DVDs. I import the DVDs from Japan becase as great as it is to download them, some series I love enough to give my money to the legitimate releases. I have all of Zyu, Dai, Kaku, Car, Ginga, GoGoV, Time, Gao, Aba, and Magi, along with a few volumes to Oh, Flash, and then the BDs that are out so far of Gokaiger and of course the BD of the movie set. Same goes with several Kamen Rider series and the live action Sailor Moon, plus Garo.
Back on topic, I'm about halfway through Liveman. I'm still really enjoying the heroes and villains, but its lost a little steam for me since the space geniuses turned up. I'm expecting it to pick up again in a few episodes when the other 2 members are introduced. Oh, and this series has the most tacked-on mecha fights I've ever seen in a Sentai show. I really like LiveRobo but wow are they dull.

Yeah, the last few episodes before Green and Black show up are kind of bland. The new rangers seem great at first, but the last 10 episodes feel hindered by their presence. Nevertheless, Liveman is my favorite series out of the 80s, but that is only because I have not seen all of Flashman or Changeman yet, and unless I find it to be really bad (Dynaman, Goseiger, Go-Onger), I try to watch every series from start to finish. Anyway, one of the other things that helps Liveman is my favorite Sentai actor is in it (Hirose, who played Jin in DaiRanger and is Dr Kempu in Liveman).

I gave up on Changeman after four episodes due to the main characters being flat and the pacing being very horrid.

Still watching (and seriously digging) Boukenger.
I do want to solicit opinions on what to watch after that, though. I just watched Jungle Fury so I am not sure if Gekiranger is the right choice. I was thinking maybe Go-onger, Magiranger, Goseiger... something modern. Anyone have any thoughts?

Personally I'd go Magiranger, my second favourite after Gokaiger.
Go-onger is a fun series though, and while I didn't think Goseiger was great (more like wasted potential) there is good in there and quite a few people here enjoy it. Dekaranger is another one I'd highly recommend.

Gekiranger is definitely on my "to watch" list, but since I literally finished watching Jungle Fury like a week ago, my thought was to finish Boukenger and then another series before watching it. Sort of like a buffer, or a palate cleanser if you will. I very much enjoyed Jungle Fury and have a feeling I will enjoy Gekiranger as well.
Go-onger looks neat to me because of the mix of vehicles and animals in the meka. And I like robotic bad guys. I have seen the first few eps of Magiranger and dug that. So everyone's suggestions are greatly appreciated. Of course I am also watching Gokaiger and shortly I imagine we will all be walking Gobuster...

I was thinking maybe Go-onger, Magiranger, Goseiger... something modern. Anyone have any thoughts? GekiRanger is a must watch, as is AbaRanger and Gokaiger. You can skip everything else from 2001-on, but those three must be watched. Oh, and you definitely do not want to watch Go-Onger, Goseiger, or DekaRanger. If you want to see what is wrong with Sentai these days, then you watch them. If you are a completist, watch then. If you want to be bored out of your mind, watch them. If you want to be annoyed with full retard comedy, watch them. If you like Seth Rogen movies, watch them. If you want to see children playing the entire ranger cast, watch Goseiger. If you want to see Sentai series with an actual plot, gimmicks that work within the story, and incredible battle scenes with unexpected plot twists, watch Geki, Aba, and Gokaiger. I pray that Gobuster is good, I really do. But given Toei's track record, it is going to teeter between total suckage and average. |
