Not gonna be surprised if they ever decide to sell that Yodonheim karuta deck.

To set up the Karuta Card Game, you must first shuffle and deal the "grabbing" cards, then shuffle the "reading" cards, flip the "grabbing" cards over, situate your body positions and memorize the position of each of the "grabbing cards". To play the game, you have to say what the first reading card says, then touch one of the grabbing cards, keep the card you touched first and if you get the wrong card, you touched your hands on your head as a penalty and then lean down. If you get the right card, you'll get a point. More correct cards and points mean you're a winner!
So, is Kiramager the first Super Sentai to feature Karuta Card Game or did the other Sentai had done this before? Okay, so Sena Hayami has her friend turned rival when it comes to Karuta Card Game. Hayami had never played that card game in her entire life until today. And when it comes to speed, that's when those flying cards explode in mid-air. Nice one when Sena riding on the King Express, which reminds me of Hikari Nonomura/ToQ4gou, another Green Sentai Warrior (although a male) rode on his Green Ressha (Train) in ToQger. But the King Express is way faster than the GoLiners of GoGoFive or any of the Resshas of ToQger. Well, any Super Sentai references to this episode? |

This is definitely not the first episode in Super Sentai to feature karuta. It was previously used in Ninninjer in an episode which had a guest appearance by Shurikenger. As for the references you asked about, the background shown behind Carantula and later the Kiramagers during their roll call is the same as the one shown during Ninninjer's roll call.

I just love how Galza is an unwilling pilot for King Express to the point where he no longer cares about being hijacked.

Garza was weirdly chilled out considering last week's episode.

I love it when Toku teaches me about things I’ve never ever heard about. The game looks really fun to play as well.

I love when toku shows have elements of traditional culture in them. One of the most interesting parts of Japan is the balance they strike between modern society and traditional culture, and I think that balance was represented well in this episode.
My only issue was that Garza showed up seemingly only for the purpose of letting the Kiramagers use his mech. I hope that doesn't become a recurring trend throughout the series, because it seemed really lazy.

I hate to be a party pooper but I'm afraid I wasn't a big fan of the karuta episode, that and the Ninninger episode didn't particularly make me want to play it! I like a good game of Top Trumps, it's one of the few card games that I grasped straight away, but maybe I would need karuta presented in a certain way to enjoy it!
