The villains have really grown on me in a short amount of time, especially. They're not super interesting characters but these Nezirezia guys are f***in' crazy. I haven't seen Toku villains this threatening in a while. They're straight up terrorists, man. Constantly doing crap like destroying landmarks, targeting children, brainwashing people, trying to infiltrate society in disguise (an episode which also featured a kid nearly getting strangled to death), and just plain ol' poisoning mass crowds of people. Wow.

Speaking of wow, episode 16 was spectacular. Super tense, showed off how awesome and important the INET crew is, really let the characters shine, and was just generally a huge highlight so far. Obviously you know how it's going to end before it even starts but I couldn't care less. That scene at the end with the team just being stupid kids again felt very well earned.

Watched through episode 21 of Megaranger and it is sweet. Much like Gekiranger, this is a show I kinda knew I'd like, but I'm still surprised anyway just how much I'm liking it.
Where to even start? Well I guess first I can talk about how awesome the heroes are still. The whole friendship between the Megarangers continues to come off really strong, Kubota is still the best, and the INET staff in general is a great element to the show. Usually Sentai is just five random dudes saving the Earth from an army of monsters but this show regularly makes it a point that those five random dudes would get absolutely nowhere without the help they're getting from the mundane people working behind the scenes. The debut of Super Galaxy Mega really cemented that for me. Such great stuff. Also, the Nezirezia have topped themselves in terms of craziness. These guys are terrifying. Let me put it this way. The first episode I watched today had them trying to raise an army of toad monsters to take over the planet with, and that's tame compared to some of the other crap I saw. Like, okay, episode 19, right? It has the debut of a new commander guy. So how does he make his entrance? He blows up a crap-ton of buildings in his big flying saucer, airdrops in a ton of mooks to ransack the place for survivors, kidnaps a ton of children to later be brainwashed into use as human shields, and as a cherry on top, when the Megarangers show up to do their thing, he uses his super speed abilities to swap out a mook Mega Red is about to punch in the face with another kid, resulting in said kid being hospitalized and Mega Red having an existential crisis. THIS IS LITERALLY THE FIRST 4 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE! That is really something else. I'm sure it was really fun for all the small children watching the show to see one of their heroes nearly kill a kid. It's kind of awesome, actually. Not the punching a kid so hard his face is bleeding part, but that they went that far. I mean, as soon as the episode started with everything getting blown to crap I assumed it was going to be some dream sequence or something but because everything that happened there, you know, did, I absolutely bought Kenta's angst over the whole thing, and it was awesome seeing him get over it (with Kubota's help, because duh), and come back swinging. It was a great episode. A lot of these episodes are great episodes. I'm really into this show right now. My biggest complaint so far is that I have to sit through a way less awesome ending theme now, but even that's only going to be for ten episodes, so like, who cares? This show is awesome.

I started Go-Busters the other day. I didn't have anything to say about the first episode, I think mostly because it was like 2 am and my brain was working at like 20% capacity or something.
Watched episode 2 just a bit ago...also don't have too much to say about it, either., actually. None of the heroes have really clicked with me so far, which is fine at this stage in the show. I can say the mecha fight was pretty cool, though. Kinda gave me slight Eva vibes, which is always cool. Too bad the spare sword was just transported instead of being hidden in buildings.... Anyway, I dunno. It's fine so far. True story: like 40% of the reason I wanted to watch this one was to hear "It's Morphin' Time" as much as possible. So far, not disappointed. There has been an acceptable number of "It's Morphin' Time"s. |

Up to episode 25 of Megaranger now. Still loving it.
Oh, Yuusaku, I bet you think you can just ride straight into my heart on that motorcycle of yours, don't you? But I know your darkest secret. That "2.5 minute" time limit on your suit? It actually just lasts as long as the episode needs it to! Bet you thought I wouldn't notice, huh? No but in all seriousness Mega Silver is pretty cool. Like I've said before, I'm naturally inclined to like Sixth Rangers, and this guy is silver and has a hoverboard that turns into a bike so, like, sign me the heck up. I really dig the irony of Yuusaku being arguably the most childish member of the team too. Not only does his personality spice up the show, it draws attention to how competent the main characters actually are at this point. Very clever. Also the Nezirezia tried to breed another army of sea monsters, this time with the intent of poisoning the oceans. Only after their plan to use humans as a fuel source for a laser to kill more humans failed, of course. Yikes. I don't think I've ever been rooting for the heroes in a show harder.

I have the weirdest love hate relationship with Yuusaku
As a character, he's hilarious. 30 something man trying to act like he's a teenager, his personality is bombastic and awesome. He's a real treat and a bright character. But Mega Silver...He just overshadows the whole team so much. There were fights where it just seemed that he didn't even need the other rangers.

Watched 3 more episodes of Megaranger. No standout episodes to rave about but they were super fun as usual. Kouichirou and Yuusaku make a good buddy cop duo, Shun saves the day basically by himself, and Chisato's grandma is almost as nuts as the Nezirezia. Okay, nobody else is that nuts, but she does manage to steal a police car and sexually harass Kouichirou in the same episode, which is still something.
Speaking of the Nezirezia, they're still keeping up with all the crazy terrorist plans. Turning people into coral that then pollutes the environment so that people can't survive is pretty messed up. This isn't even the first time one of their plans has been "kill a bunch of people in a way that makes it easier to kill even more people". It's kind of shocking how practical even their stupidest schemes are. Really? I'll be bummed if that's the case given how much I like these guys but so far they've been handling him great, and this is the initial post debut window where you'd think they want to shill his merch extra hard. In his second episode he even shows up to save the team only for the team to just save themselves.

But isn't that, like, nearly every sixth hero in their first few episodes? Or is MegaSilver's special power that he doesn't lose his debut power level the way they normally do? (Actually, I should really get around to Megaranger at some point. I'm still chewing on Boukenger.)

See, Mega Silver's whole point IS to be more powerful than the other rangers. That was the reason a sixth ranger existed in the first place. They were there to kick ass and chew gum and then not show up for another batch of episodes. It's not like those panzy ass sixth rangers of today who are just there for toy sales and get their asses kicked as much as the rest of the team.
