And he was important to the plot. Have you never seen Gamera Guardian of the Universe?

This is how I felt. Aside from being a mechanism to bring Ford to the MUTO, he really didn't contribute much. His old data was a minor contribution in tracking the creatures but I feel like that lost it's significance pretty quick.

I give this movie a 6.5/10. It's technically and visually a solid work. I enjoyed most of its parts, some were disappointing.
- Awesome fights. - A coherent setting, not bad for a giant monster movie. - The build up is too long, we should have a big fight when Godzilla catch up with the flying MUTO in Hawaii, not a TV-flash for a few seconds with a cut to the aftermaths. I mean everybody knows Godzilla, it's an iconic pop-culture figure, why trying so hard to keep it off screen just to preserve it for the climax ? That was a problem there, it feels the story does not flow as it should. The movie is formatted like a disaster one, and my brain wanted too see a toku one with monsters beating the crap out of each other. - Too much elements to enforce drama: lost kid in Hawaii, Serisawa's watch, etc. Anyway, I can't see the watch memento trick in any movie without thinking of Christopher Walken watch in Pulp Fiction. - Emmerich 1998'Godzilla has a lot of bad ideas, that scene with the larvaes was too reminiscent of it. It was there just to allows the main character to have something to do and save the day (the reason everything explode is not very convincing by the way). Like launching the boat while half dead was not enough for KickAss. - A nuke explode 5mn away from boat from the city, depending of the winds in the end all the survivors are irradiated and will die from a slow agony.

You saw the scene where Ford and Godzilla came face to face? How much more impactful would it have been if Cranston was in Ford's place? How would you have felt if he just yelled at Godzilla and Godzilla just gave a look of "I'm sorry" and just turned to fight the MUTO's with a renewed spirit of "The King of Monsters,Protector of Humanity" Also,I agree with everything said here. I loved the movie, but it had it's flaws.

It wouldn't be irrelevant if he stayed alive. Remember,he was looking for the truth, but also revenge. If he lived, then he would have backed Serizawa by saying to let them fight because to him it would have been "Good, they could destroy each other!" and at some point have had Godzilla save people from these monsters.

Also, why does everybody with the last name Brody have to be in the military and be super masculine?

And no, he really wasn't. As I've pointed out countless times, cut Godzilla from every single part except the final battle and the movie is exactly the same. Which is nothing but a bad thing. They set up an interesting character with personal stakes to the plot, then quickly killed him after Act 1 and switched him with Ford. Last edited by Starscream Gaga; 05-22-2014 at 08:50 PM.. |

Godzilla was a force of nature. What more do you want? Do you want him there in an hour long drawn out boring battle like the Bayformer movies have? There are flaws, which is why this movie is only an 8/10 and not a 10/10. However, it follows the same tropes of every other Godzilla movie, and I don't see how that is a problem. In fact, it was more true to Godzilla than most of the sequels.
BTW, my comment about Gamera GOTU was because it was the same play but with MUTO instead of the Gyaos. Last edited by Dr Kain; 05-22-2014 at 11:04 PM.. |

BTW, my comment about Gamera GOTU was because it was the same play but with MUTO instead of the Gyaos. And the misleading advertising REALLY didn't help things. They were intentionally advertising a Godzilla-centric movie but in actuality the monologue and half the scenes (including scenes in the trailer that swap the MUTO for Godzilla in CGI) implied ot be about Godzilla nearly all had nothing to do with him. Seriously. The train bridge scene in the trailer actually has Godzilla being the one destroying it. That's awfully misleading. Last edited by Starscream Gaga; 05-22-2014 at 11:27 PM.. |

Misleading advertising? So you basically want the movie trailer to be an abridged version of the movie that tells you everything going on with the movie? Like TASM2 and Transcendence have done?
And I have no idea what you are talking about the train bridge scene as every scene I saw in the trailers was in the movie. |
