The little inexplicable presentation of the Stacey Thought karoke MV during that one scene was so incredibly weird, distracting and oddly funny. Was that the toei hotel?!
Episode as usual is plenty fun, but I think after forty or so weeks, I might finally be starting to run out of steam for Zenkaiger's usual antics, no matter how consistently well-done it is. Maybe the year long Zenkai adredaline that's been pumped into my brain is finally starting to dull in its effects... However the antics is really well-done here, I do want to say! I liked the ramping up of bad luck and slapstick, and the gag with cannon's summons was unbeliavable. I'm even fine that the ultimate solution to their 'greatest threat' was just to brute force it as usual. It's also almost a character focus episode! Almost. Also what the heck, I nitpicked that they didn't use Super TwokaiOh last week when it would have been the perfect opportunity to do so. And this week they bring in Super ZenkaiOh Zyuran for no reason to accomplish nothing... (Gaon complaining about it was funny though.) Meanwhile, it's impossible for me to comment or feel anything Stacey/Gege/God(?!) is doing at this moment. It's all so vague, cryptic and could mean any million of things that I don't see much point wondering about it until the show spells it out. Would feel incredible yet somehow appropriate if this show ended with Zenkaigers blowing up the creator of the universe though. |

This episode was a bit of a let down. While it's nice that the Stacey and Gege portions are hinting towards something major, the Zenkaiger plot had so little to do with it that it feels disconnected. Like, if you removed the Stacey scenes, this episode would've snuggly fit in around episode 20.
That's not a good thing, as we're in the endgame now with very few episodes left. I feel it's making the same mistakes another personal favorite of mine, Zyuohger, made, with so little about the main villains revealed until the literal last hour, the stakes just aren't there. Like, the Zenkaiger antics are still fun and creative, and the acknowledgement of the heroes who died that aren't Black Condor, Dragonranger, Time Fire, and Abare Killer was a mean yet funny moment. But at this point, we should be moving towards plots like where Kaito's mother is at, some more secrets about Bokkuwas, and etc. I feel like we should be hitting a point where plots should be tying together to a bigger picture, especially following the revelation of "God", who seems to have also been possessing Gege at times as well, and yet we get another wacky MOTW with a tiny bit of plot. Unless they really shit the bed, at this point, I feel Zenkaiger is most definitely a top tier Sentai, no doubt. I just really hope they don't fumble the ending so they can have DonBrothers continue it.

You know, it'd be hilarious enough for Stacey to randomly wake up in a place like this, but it's the implications of the music video existing in-universe that really take the scene to the next level. Apparently God has some very particular hobbies! (I wonder if there's a Karaoketopia...?) And strangely enough, "potentially using Stacey to moonlight as a (successful?) singer" is legitimately one of the most concrete pieces of information we have on this guy right now! This plotline really is totally up in the air at the moment. Zenkaiger's just such an insane series, this could be leading to anything from a straightforward big bad to trounce in the finale, all the way to the team having to finally take down Saburou Hatte once and for all, thus restoring Shoutarou Ishinomori to his rightful place as the progenitor of all the Sentai worlds. It's like that "Special Thanks" in the opening would turn out to have been foreshadowing this entire time? ...I'm totally joking about all this, by the way. I don't really want to see that actually be the plot at all, because that doesn't really sound like Zenkaiger to me, but then, on the same token, if Zenkaiger *did* decide to do that, I have no doubt it could pull it off in a way that would convince me it's completely brilliant. What was I talking about again? Not Magine? Well, I'd better fix that right away then! So yeah, this isn't an episode that's particularly dead-set on moving the Plot along, as is often the case with Zenkaiger, and while I get the feeling this may finally be the for-real last "standard" episode of the series, even if it isn't, I still don't ever, ever see myself getting tired of episodes like this. I mean, the show's only on the air for another month before we all get thrown into the Inoue Zone! I'm gonna savor every last bit of Zenkaiger while I still can! Especially when those episodes are placing such a heavy focus on Magine. I guess it's nowhere near as surprising to see her saying "Checkmate" as it was to hear that "Ready~ Go!" back in the sixth episode, but that doesn't mean I'm any less happy to see her lending the team some courage when it counts. And who even needs that Kyuranger Gear when she can just convince everyone that their bad fortune is secretly good fortune? Talk about lucky! Only the best Zenkaiger could be doing this many past teams so proud in just one episode. Not that the Zenkaigers as a whole aren't doing themselves proud by managing to defeat yet another tough opponent with nothing but a positive can-do attitude and lots of fumbling around like buffoons. What an absolutely beautiful sequence. Chaotically beautiful, mind you, but then, that's Zenkaiger. Always getting the job done, no matter how absurdly unorthodox the process ends up being.

This episode sums up my week absolutely perfectly. And yes, I know the new episode's out, but I'm already behind on everything.
So, all in all, the usual fun episode, with lots of fun moments like giving the Kudacks super luck to trounce the heroes, or attempting to use the Lucky Gear, only to have the luck backfire and summon more bad luck (the Battle Egypt costume just lying there was absolutely hilarious, even if I don't know the context). But as I figured, Gege apparently can't control multiple bodies at once, leaving Stacey to find himself at a karaoke with a song by him playing. And of course, throwing Magine is the best final attack. And dang, it certainly has been a while, since I can't for the life of me bring myself to remember when Super Zenkaiju Jyuran appeared at the moment, but getting to see JyuraGaon again was great, and we'll be getting to see VrooMagine next week. And boy, do I already miss TwoKaiser in the opening. Now, with how close to the end with Zenkaiger we are, and don't get me wrong the antics of Zenkaiger are always fun (especially when Magine starts filling Vroon's role in being the nerd), but it is a little crazy that we're already at the final stretch and only now has the plot reached critical levels, even if, I'm sure we all guessed Gege was the one pulling the strings from the beginning. But that's not a problem for me, since I still absolutely enjoyed this show from start to finish. Love the reaction the Zenkaigers had to GegeStacey revealing his identity, which I guess isn't surprising since he likely spearheaded the putting worlds in gears plot. Anyway, Next Week: *Dancing Mad plays in the distance* "Oh no..." Last edited by Daikaijuman54; 02-05-2022 at 10:00 PM.. |
