I know it's not exactly toku related but I feel it is worth mentioning. So what is the deal between Toei and Disney? Apparently Toei did not like how Disney handled Digimon when airing dubbed versions of Frontier and Savers. Toei even took the distribution rights away from disney (according to my sources so don't yell at me if it's not exactly accurate) and aired a subtitled version of Xros Wars themselves prior to giving the distribution rights back to Saban for his adaptation of it for Digimon Fusion. It sounds like Toei did not like working with Disney on Digimon or Power Rangers and preferred Saban. So what is the deal with Toei and Disney and why do they hate each other so much? And does that rule out any possibility of Super Sentai/Power Rangers ever being produced by Marvel ever again due to the fact that Marvel is now owned by Disney? And why does it seem that Toei gets along well with Saban?

I'd say Saban's relatively positive history with Toei helps. Plus, PR and Digimon were IIRC bonuses with Disney's takeover of Fox Family or whatever happened there.
What was that acquisition scenario again? |

Power Rangers and Digimon are co-license franchises. Unlike Marvel and Star Wars, Disney never had full control over those two. I remember Disney wanted a animated Power Rangers show and Toei told them no. Not to mention Disney did a terrible job on marketing their shows. I remember the TV ads for Jungle Fury didn't show up on the last minute and they hardly market the toys.

Saban does a "decent" job with those 2 shows, honestly Disney didn't do that good with Frontier & Data Squad anyways, & the only decent Power Rangers shows from Disney were: NS, DT, SPD, & RPM, just saying.

I remember hearing a while back that Disney wanted to be involved in actual production of the Super Sentai shows, in the hope of making things less violent and better for the eventual American audiences.
Never found a source on that though. Might be just another Internet story. |
