I'm really behind with my Ultra-Act reviews, so I'll be spending the next few days and catch up. First on the chopping block is the fierce Alien Magma. Magma Seijin, along with Black Gillas and Red Gillas, nearly destroyed UltraSeven, but Ultraman Leo arrived to save the day. That's one hell of an introduction, so it's natural that this would be the monster released along with Leo.*Here is the review. Alien Magma Figure: Let's start by admitting that Alien Magma's costume design looks dumb. But there's something about it that is endearing... especially knowing that it's from the Ultraman universe. Since Magma's design is a man in a leotard, I'm sure there was some challenge to transcribing it properly into an action figure. There's just something about this sculpt that just seems very feminine. It's the proportions that silver underwear I can't get over. The paint job is simple, but also effective. The body cast in matte black plastic, and that makes me afraid of it being prone to scratches. The head sculpt and paint detailing also looks great.*Compared to Zamsher and Kyrieloid, Alien Magma's articulation is fantastic. The shoulder articulation, newly designed for this figure, does the job but isn't exactly my cup of tea. Accessories: Since Magma has a revealed face, we are treated with three different facial expressions. There's also an alternate head with its own set of expressions. This alternate head represents the creature that fought Zamsher in Ultraman Mebius. The mouths don't mix and match very well; their pegs are individually fitted. There's a hook attachment included if you want different display options, and three sets of hands as well. Overall: I'm partially glad that I don't own two versions of this toy. Don't get me wrong, Alien Magma is a very solid toy... it's just that it doesn't do much for me to own twice. While it's a very unique looking character, it may be boring to a casual collector. If you need a kaiju to square off with Ultraman Leo, than definitely pick this guy up. For more pictures for this review visit The Rabbit Haul.
