also the suit from back then was good for 70s standards.

I'd suggest Fourze for something more light-hearted, W for something more in-depth, and Kuuga for something good.

I know this was explained in a net video a few years ago; I think it was one of the Decade ones. It's been a long time since I saw it, but as I remember it was a case of the helmet and/or suit getting damaged and needing emergency on-site repairs.

To be fair, though, the original Rider 1 suit wasn't exactly the highest quality thing ever made to begin with.

Yup thats pretty much it. It got damaged, needed repair and they didnt have material for it on set. So they just spray painted over the damaged areas.
