So has anybody else noticed the prevalence of Daddy Issues in Kamen Rider since Drive?

We had Gou and Banno, Adel/Alain and their dad, Specter and his dad(s), Kuroto and Masamune and now we have Gentoku and his dad, Katsuragi and his AND Misora and Souichi.

Before that you could also mention the Sonozaki family and Eiji and his father.

Koyomi and her father, too.

Pretty sure Akiko had problems with Sokichi as well

Let's not forget about Eiji issues with *both* of his parents.

I don't quite get the question. Do you want a single season to be real or a whole era? Like Showa, Heisei, pre- and/or post-Decade?

Anyways, I'd go with a show which had the least negative impact on its world and the least casualties among civilians. Because if you want a show to be real, the bad guys would become reality as well, right? I guess one of the late pre- or early post-Decade shows would fit the bill. They rarely had people die or worlds destroyed there. Extreme exceptions like Gaim aside of course ;)

What I'm saying if is how would you make a Kamen Rider a reality?

I see. In that case, the Faiz Riders might be the easiest to do, considering many others are based on magic and stuff, or harness otherworldly energies.

Faiz does too in a way, but I'm sure you could actually find a replacement here. With stuff like Ryuki or Blade that's a bit harder since Mirror Monsters or Undead thankfully don't exist.

depends what you mean by best though, right?

Amazon had some cool monsters, the Ant-Queen was neat, 'W' had Taboo who is possibly my most favorite design, (she didn't even have legs and was still awesome), ...'The Next' had Chiharu Kazami who was pretty awesome and reminded me of something from Resident Evil.

some of the early Showa monsters were (imo) pretty memorable just because they were so weird, like Machine Gun Snake, or Guillotine Lizard,..but the costumes themselves weren't usually that great back then even when the idea and design were interesting. I've liked all the monsters in all the series though I guess.

Taboo is still my favorite monster design (the floating woman with an eyeball where her feet should be.) (these are the toys/figures but it still shows off the designs pretty well.)

the more you see the more weird stuff you notice, like the tiny red person sitting in her hair on top of her head. She's a really neat design. I like how her hair comes down her face and over her eyes and comes to a weird point.

Kamen Rider W was such an interesting season for a number of different reasons. But Taboo is probably my most favorite monster design I've seen.

Why hasn't Kamen Rider been brought over like the Super Sentai's for Power Rangers? Considering how many of the Heisei eras feature multiple Riders, and they do have compelling stories that can be adapted with ease. So why didn't Saban give it another chance?

It was, Kamen Rider Black RX and Ryuki were both repurposed badly for American audiences. They weren't a hit.

I know one day I'll have watched every series and movie that is Kamen Rider,...and like a junkie I'll sniff out those two shows and eventually watch them too.

From the reviews and from what friends have told me though they're not good. Though I did read one review where a guy was saying the American version of Dragon Knight was better than the Japan version of Ryuki. *shrugs*...who knows, I've only seen Ryuki.

I’d say Fourze, I love the constellation theme.

Dragon Knight was pretty decent, the problem was CW didn't really make an effort to push it as hard as they could have like Fox did with Power Rangers so the show never really found an audience.

I liked Ryuki but think half of it was filler. I liked it but so far it's been my least favorite Kamen Rider series. Not that it was bad so much as I just think others were better.

Probably due to the fact that the series flop twice here in the US. There is no market for it. People look at any Toku superhero series and turn off by it for looking like Power Rangers. The only way for a American Rider series to do well is to do a original Kamen Rider show with no Japanese footage and suits.

Make that 3. I liked Dragon Knight. They used the suits and told their own story with it, while keeping to the original plot device of eliminations.

Well the thing with Dragon Knight was that it wasn't bad, it just didn't sell well and had low ratings due to bad marketing. Hell, the network running the show loved it and could have cancelled the show multiple times. Plus, it won an award for the stunt coordination

Well that's overexaggerated, they don't need to do something completely original, they just need to find a way to sell it to a general audience.

Actually there is a reason it didn't do very well in the states. The show was set at weird hours and was changed several times plus some cw stations didn't air it instead running local programing over it, as such it wasn't seen frequently. In addition the toy line was very late and had extremely poor distribution and didn't make it into stores in the south east until the series was almost over and had stopped being shown on local stations.

And with out better promotion the series died

Kamen rider dragon knight is passable its weak not great but ok

masked rider is terribly written as it makes episodes more about the standard fish out of water story as dex is an alien-seriously why is it always aliens.

Dragon Knight was very well produced than Masked rider.

I like the designs, but the monochromatic color scheme buries a lot of the detail.

Also IIRC, the final episodes of the show only aired online.

I think the show could have found solid ground by marketing itself to preteens/teenagers who wanted something similar to Power Rangers, but a bit more mature thematically. Maybe in that little area where shows like Yu-Gi-Oh and Teen Titans thrived.

That’s my biggest issue with them too. Yeah the designs are awesome, but they look unfinished. Like someone primed the suits for painting but just stopped there.

Given the track record for the other American adaptions of Toku superheroes, they never turn out very well. They should do what they did with Godzilla 2014 and do their own original thing instead doing the Power Rangers treatment. It can show that Kamen Rider is not some cheesy Power Rangers rip off to them.

Honestly I'd love to see a kamen rider movie based on ichigo/Takashi Hongo, made for the U.S. My personal idea for it was set in Japan during the 70s and just run with that, reference the shifting culture of the time, have the music be 70s synth, funk, and rock, etc. Then the idea from there was by the end of the film have Hongo at his lowest because he feels truly alone then in the next movies build him up by introducing his supporting cast, and showing that despite the lonely and burden a kamen rider must carry that there are people there to carry it with them.

Edit: That or we just give Shin to Guillermo Del Toro and just let him go nuts.

Switchblade I agree about the monochrome look of the Orphenochs but that's also part of what I liked about them, it was different.

And they all generally had a 'mean' look to them. There really wasn't anything fun or campy about their looks, they looked mean and sort of Alien. (the Alien from the Aliens movies is also sort of 'one color',) they didn't look like typical Kamen Rider colorful monsters.

Oh fuck just give the entire franchise to Del Toro lol. I'm game

My theory on why that is a thing is because they wanted to give a very ash/dust-like quality/aesthetic to them. We gotta remember, orphenochs are people who became reanimated beings and cheated death so giving them a mute and dull color palette makes sense in that context. And we all know what happens if you are not orphenoch material in Faiz. poof.

Based on your pitch I say we remake the first show, then we go V3 and then skip to the 80s and go BLACK.

early 70s: Hongo
Mid 70s Hongo and Hayato
Late 70s Shiro

Also still not a hundred percent sure how to handle Hayato, for Shiro I want him to start by having scavenged parts for assorted shocker monster battles and basically having assembled a suit out of scraps for him to fight for his revenge then to get the upgrade mid film.

Also another idea was have various other isinimori heroes be running around other countries.
