Please, God, anyone listening... Bluray, not DVD. The fact that they released Super Sentai on DVD and not Blu-ray has always pissed me off. I don't even have a DVD player anymore and I threw out 95% of my movie collection this summer. So for God's sake, Blu-ray please.

We all know that Kiva's suit is notorious for being heavy due to using actual chains, but I wonder, did they changed the suit afterwards? Like swapping the chains with prop ones, or the suit remains the same?


If it's Kabuto onwards Blu-ray is likely since they're HD. But older shows doesn't except those that have been remastered on Blu-ray.

I would much prefer blu-ray as well, but DVD is better than nothing. Any halfway decent blu-ray player should upscale your DVDs anyways, and for some of the older shows, the different shouldn't be too noticeable.

The original Kamen Rider show from 1971 does have a Blu-Ray release in Japan. It would be up to Shout! if they want to release it in Blu-Ray or not.

It's more the fact that Bluray tens to be region free whereas DVDs are pretty strict. I own several of the Super Sentai releases from Shout! but can't actually watch them since I don't have a player that can do Region 1 DVDs. So I've watched them through, ahem, digital means while still buying the releases to support.

I must admit that I am angry that nobody seems to care about releasing Sentai in the UK or Europe.

If a returning character is too old/obscure, would they keep the character but get new actor/actresses?

Japan tends to do a good job of getting actors back, like they have brought back the original actor for Kamen rider back on multiple occasions but they can't get everyone back, case by case basis I guess.

I have been trying to get a friend through Kamen rider and it has been taking a while, should I have him skip the more contentious seasons or just try and get through all of it we can?

I say have him skip the more contentious seasons for now and then later on he can go back watch those seasons later.

Yeah, I'd definitely say it's okay to skip over whatever seasons seem least interesting. They'll still be there to get around to later, and if one of them turns out to genuinely be a huge slog to get through, I'd imagine it'd be less frustrating knowing it isn't "preventing" the cooler shows from getting their turn.

This is pretty much the same advice I always give for recommendations, but basically, when it comes to entertainment, following your heart is always the best option. Watching Kamen Rider isn't studying for a test, and there's no "proper" way to do it, so do what you want.

Thanks for the response. This plans makes sense and because I know what he likes and what he does not, given we get through shows at what feels like a slow rate, having him go through a season he might not like might not be the best and just getting to the more agreed on better ones work better.

Who's your favorite composer for Kamen Rider? Shunsuke Kikuchi is still my #1 favorite.

For me that's gotta be Toshihiko Sahashi. There are some individual shows with soundtracks just as great, but I don't think you can top the variety he brings to the table. The eerie atmospheric tracks and heroic guitar shreddage of Kuuga are worlds away from the relaxed and sentimental sound of Den-O, which is itself totally different from Zi-O's epic Egyptian shtick. I think it's pretty telling that for the Rider show about musical demons, he's the composer they went with.

Eiji Kawamura. There is no Rider show with a better overall soundtrack than Black.

Honestly Go Sakabe his work on both Ghost and Zero-One is some of the most energetic and soothing scores in Kamen Rider.

The man, the myth, the legend, Shuhei Naruse. One of the reason Den-O was great was because of his music. Then he gave me the one reason to finish Kiva whether I like it or not.

While we're talking composers anyway, I'd also be remiss not to give a shout-out to Koutarou Nakagawa, who worked alongside Shuuhei Naruse on Decade, Double, and Drive's soundtrack, as well as handling OOO and Wizard by himself.

With Naruse doing Fourze's BGM, the two of them together pretty much defined the sound of an entire era of Rider shows, and if you're one of the many people who consider Wizard's music one of its bright spots, or who loves Tsukasa's epic speeches and flamenco-flavored transformations in Decade, or whatever else from any of those shows, you owe one or both of them some thanks.

Who is the deuteragonist of Kamen Rider Ghost?

I am planning to make a thread about the deuteragonist of Kamen Rider and while I know which one is the deuteragonist from each Rider show but i having a hard time to figure out which character from Ghost is the deuteragonist to Takeru's protagonist.

Deuteragonist is the second most important character after the Protagonist and they are the one who is involved with the story the most.

But Ghost is rather tricky for me to figure out of who is the deuteragonist.

Who do you think is the deuteragonist of Ghost?

In your guys' opinion, has Zero-One effectively been a successful series to start off the Reiwa Kamen Rider Era away from the Heisei Era thus far?

Aesthetically it's managed to be pretty distinct, but broadly it still feels like another Heisei series. I don't mind that much, though.

I'd say Alain. He has the strongest character development in the show. Makoto may be the secondary Rider, but he was pretty ignored for most of the series, hell, he got turned into a slave by Necrom and then got 'killed' before Takeru obtains Grateful.

Alain may not be a secondary Rider, but if Hajime/Chalice is not the secondary Rider yet still becomes the deuteragonist of Blade, then Alain is the deuteragonist.

Yeah, it still feels very Heisei atm. Although I do hear that during Reiwa the First Generation they intended to move on from the past, meaning that the only crossover we'll get are the Generations movies.

It does make me wonder what they have in plan for the 50th anniversary series, which is going to be after Zero-One.

Yeah, I agree. The show reminds me a lot of Ex-Aid and Build. Again, not a bad thing, but definitely not the start of a whole new style of Rider show. The change from Decade to W felt more significant than anything Zero-One is doing differently after Zi-O (aside from not sucking, of course).

Was Kiva Emperor Form always meant to be introduced early? It's common knowledge that it got introduced early because the suit is lighter than Kiva's base suit. So I wonder, if Mr Takaiwa had no problems with the base suits, when should Emperor form be introduced? And would DoGaBaKi form act as the proper upgrade for Kiva before he obtains Emperor?

If Kamen Rider do get American adaptation, would you rather want to copy and paste the story with a lot of old footages from Sentai shows like Power Rangers Samurai or make a new story and new original footage like Power Rangers Lost Galaxy? (Gingaman deal with environmental/nature stuff while Lost Galaxy is basically Power Rangers meets Star Wars)

But if they receive an American adaptation, would you want to be copy and paste the Japanese Kamen Rider show for American adaptation or just make an original story and stand on it own?

Certain aspects would need to be changed regardless due to differences in culture, but I'd be fine with either. As long as we don't get another Masked Rider or Dragon Knight.

Make an original made-for-TV-movie which has MMPR unite with the Showa Riders!

Predicate it as a story that happened years ago, but we haven't seen it yet.

Consider using recycled/archived audio/dialogue to sell the idea that it happened during the Mighty Morphin Era.

The team-up with Masked Rider would be considered canon, but NOT the Masked Rider series!

The Showa Riders would be considered dimension-hoppers, as if to suggest that they are the OG Riders from the '70s and '80s!

When the battle is over, the power of Heisei Riders would "duplicated" in the Main Ranger Universe, so that new users could be found.

Much of the adapted Heisei battles would occur during the missing years in the Main Ranger Universe, which could be considered as the following: S.P.D. (future season not set in the year it realistically debuted), RPM (interdimensional season which may or may not have occurred during the same time as Samurai did in the Main Ranger Universe), 2010 (the controversial MMPR rehash year), and Dino Charge/Dino Supercharge (another interdimensional team)!

The adapted Heisei elements would focus more on Movie Specials than an actual series! Many of the earlier Heisei series had an older aspect ratio and doing each individual series would take an eternity to complete and omitting a single primary Heisei Rider precludes team-ups!

Doing Riders allows Hasbro the freedom to adapt any of the Taisen Movies and the freedom of expanding the Power Rangers Multiverse into a legitimate superhero continuity capable of challenging anything Marvel or DC release!

That's playing the long game, requiring years and years of adaptations.

And this is Hasbro, who reboots series every 3 years to ensure they can put a new Optimus Prime on the shelves with a different packaging :lol
While Power Rangers does a reboot every year (Now 2 years), for Kamen Rider, they'd literally have to start from scratch, as Masked Rider was RX, who rarely appears in the huge crossovers aside as a background character, and Dragon Knight, who is...Less than relevant :lol

American "adaptations" seem to suffer from "Mighty Morphin Power LAMENESS in terms of acting and dialogue(The 60-70's Toku show adaptations/voices are WAY better than today's voice actors,imo)-the acting is so cringeworthy it turns me completely off.Like they are trying DESPERATELY to be the cool kid in high school,and failing miserably.There is a reason MMPR is laughed at...

I'll admit, the only reason I'd be interested in a Kamen Rider adaption would be "oh sweet, cheap and easily accessible decent-looking 6' figures of my favourite characters at my local shop instead of £60 webstore exclusive imports".

It's the same reason I was happy to see Go-Busters adapting and why I was really hoping on Toqger or Zyuohger being adapted -- I'm literally just in it for the toys and have very little faith in Power Rangers producing anything of worth in the TV show, and the same would apply to adaptions of Kamen Rider or any other Tokusatsu.

I don't want another American adaption of Kamen Rider. I would rather have good English dubs instead of another show that people will turn off by.
