I didn't personally like the Imagin much at all, so it made the show pretty mind numbing. Except Deneb, love that guy. The humor fell flat for me about 90% of the time, which is really surprising since the sense of humor in Kamen Rider shows usually works for me! Then again, TV-Nihon subtitles aren't exactly the best at conveying jokes.

You've gotten a lot of very conflicting responses to this question already, many of which aren't entirely correct, so forgive me in advance if I make my own mistakes while throwing my own attempt on the pile.

The key points here:

- yes, it is a pun, based on aru and nai having opposing meanings.
- it is *also* a completely normal sentence even if you completely disregard the pun.

The thing I think the other responses here have missed is how critical that to at the end is. I can't at all explain this academically since I didn't learn Japanese from a class, but basically, it's like a conjunction linking to an implied back half of the sentence. If you had a sentence like "アルトじゃないと_____", it would be translated along the lines of "If it's not Aruto, ____", so it's like saying "Nobody but Aruto could (tell a joke this funny!)", more or less. Therefore, Over-Time's "That's how you know it's Aruto!", TV-Nihon's "Gotta have Aruto!", and Shout's "That was a work of Aruto!" all actually get fairly close to the proper meaning of the phrase. It is very much Aruto's way of making it known how one of a kind his sense of humor is.

I feel like I'm probably making this sound more elaborate than it is with my poor explanation, but basically, there are a ton of ways to end a sentence in Japanese like that to convey the meaning of something that *has* to be, or *must* be done or whatever. If I wanted to say "I have to study", for example, I could say "勉強しないと", (benkyou shinai to). And maybe if I did study, I'd be conveying this way better!:p

I read the explanation a few years ago, so I'm probably missing some details, but Aruto's jokes are all word play gags like that. It's a specific form of Japanese stand-up comedy that is incredibly out of date now. The Western equivalent would be if he was doing a bunch of old "Take my wife... please" style shtick.

The hyper battle DVD touches on this, too. Aruto felt like he was behind the times and lost a comedy partner due to varying tastes in their work. For a HBD, it sure gives some neat characterization to the other career Aruto wanted to pursue.

Just for balance I feel like I should say that personally it was more just that I found Ryotaro really annoying to watch, but that seems to be an uncommon view lol.

Hey so I remember that one of the star gate writers said writing 26 episodes by themself was a hellish experience. This makes me wonder how the hell do some toku writers write 48+ episodes a year? Like do they have less editorial stuff to go through? More support? Are they just more used to crunch? Any ideas or info?

Yeah and in a way I don't mind sitting through a filler sometimes. I'm used to UK shows rarely making more than 6 episodes a year with only soaps, Casualty/Holby City and news/factual stuff being the kind of thing that runs close to a year because I'm presuming that there isn't the kind of money in UK TV that the US or Japan has and even 26 or so is still relatively self-contained compared to a year! So in a way a year-long programme can seem exciting to me. Sorry if that's more than you wanted to know but I have a lot of interests these days!

Because there are thousands of episodes of long-running toku franchises, there's a lot more to draw from and take inspiration from. A lot of what people frame as homages and tributes, are just creative copies.

Meanwhile trying to write original or entirely new episodes for a show (especially ones with stringent internal logic and timelines) would definitely be hellish.

Hey Everybody! Ive always wondered this about rider toys but what factors determine how high the price is for a toy on the aftermarket. Ive just been looking at gaim and some stuff from other series and the prices for like the final form items at times has been bonkers, i know gaim is popular and thats a factor, but i used to see it with stuff from less popular series as well. Its just something thats always confounded me when hunting for stuff and was wondering if somebody knew why some stuff goes so far up in price, especially retail stuff, like the suprise future shift car set. Is it just scalpers?

It's not really scalpers, but just limited availability. Like, you have an item released in a handful of Asian territories (And, in specifically Gaim's case, not China), that was only available for less than a year before being discontinued, and has been off the market for, like 7 years.

Popularity is one of the higher factors, I feel. Especially P-Bandai. Scalping I think is really only a problem for retail items and Ultraman stuff. A common reason I see around, especially during, say, a SHF Ultraman's release window, were 'Chinese bots' or something. Premium Bandai has already been combatting this by outright banning foreigners from checking out the P-Bandai page. Dunno how effective that has been tho.

Going back to popularity, a character's popularity will make sure they skyrocket in the aftermarket. It starts with someone probably selling the figure for a high price in Yahoo Auctions, so they become a rarity since not many will purchase it because of the price. Aftermarkets like Mandarake start to notice and thus put up advertisements around looking for said figure for this price. At least that's what I think those huge posters of lists of figures with price beneath them in Akibahara were for. They certainly didn't have have them in stock in that store, so I deduced they were looking for them.

I'm starting to feel nostalgic when I used to watch Kamen Rider weekly. I did watch the first two episodes of Zero-One, and it was cool. I hope the rest of the show will make me a fan of the series again. I lost interest in the series with Ghost. I try to watch Build in 2018, but I forgot to finish it (It wans't bad).

Yeah, i get popularity and higher priced sales creating trends, but im confounded how the suprise future shift car set, which was retail, goes for so much. Drive wasnt and isnt that popular a show, and the set was for a movie that not many ppl liked, as well as being retail. Im just seeing a lot of spikes on stuff that wouldnt otherwise sell at such high prices. I love drive as a show and toyline, but the prices for shift next and tridoron key loose, without the newton eyecon, are like 80, more if its complete or with packaging. Just weird that drive stuff is pricier. The sad thing is even p-bandai stuff comes down in th secpndary market, but drive stuff has steadily gone up in price for a bunch of retail items.

Post-show resurgence/interest, maybe? I recall Agito and Hibiki's Seihous were easier to find until now.

Thats probably it. Next drive/ dark drive was a pretty nice suit anyway, and nice the belt had sounds for it. Probably that more than anything else.

Good news. Unlike the Ranger shows from Toei Black and Black RX aren't locked for the US viewers. I had figured this would happen due to being adapted for Masked Rider by Saban so Hasbro would have blocked both shows. I expect the same for footage from V R Troopers and Beetleborgs as both were also adapted by Saban. I will need to check if I can play them.
I wonder if this is part of a deal with Shout to be able to stream the Rider franchise in the USA.

Are either of the scrubs available for Faiz any good? I watched it with TVN subs back in the day, which wasn't ideal.

I haven't watched more than a few select scenes, but the Agony Subs for Faiz are most certainly a huge improvement over the TV-N subs.

I haven't watched those Earthly ones in full, but the Agony scrubs were still very very far from what I would call ideal. There's a fundamental issue in that people are trying to fix the mess of TV-N's work on the show, which was so deeply flawed that a complete from-the-ground-up new translation is the only way Faiz will get the kind of English rendition it deserves. One that tries to get across how good the Japanese dialogue was, rather than instead exerting effort trying to pave over how bad the dialogue in a subpar fansub was.

(This whole post is worded super harshly, but I'm just really passionate about Faiz fansubs, okay?) :p

Yeaaah, I was kind of afraid this would be the issue. There is only so much you can polish a turd afrer all... I liked Faiz when I watched it but the stunted translation did the show no favors and the only subs of theirs that I thought were worse were Blade, which was an unmitigated disaster! If only someone would come along and give it a quality translation! Someone who offers free streaming and has a name that rhymes with Clout Tractory! IF ONLY! *cough pleasegivemeabluray cough*

So I think it was Kurona that gave a really great analysis of Ep 6 of ghost, which was already a fave just cause it's very pretty, but the additions of the symbolism, the ties to the greater themes, and just the good emotional beats make it probably one of the best episodes in KR in general. Maybe the best of ghost.

Hey so is Go from Revice a bit of a darkhorse fave because he's relatable to a lot of fans? He's a nerd with niche interests, who wants to help people, but can't since he lacks the skills and power to do so.

I wouldn't quite call him a darkhorse fave, he was pretty much well-liked by everyone who watched the show during that middle bit of Revice between the Deadman scarifice plot-the appearance of Wolf Deadman Riot. (I'm not sure about early on, and I wager some folks are very.....tired of his recent characterization, but I clearly remember everyone going "This kid's alright!" during that middle section)

As for my opinion, he's not exactly a high favorite, but I do like him. He's just a sweet kid who got hurt and got on the wrong path because of it, and wants to help the people he cares about. It's simple stuff.
