He's not a favorite of mine, nor do I relate to him. But, I was always intrigued by him during the start of the show. I think his Deadman design was the best among the three, and he had a very nice arc. He gained my sympathy during his Tamaki arc and I was looking forward for what he will do for the rest of the show now that he's an ally.

And that went down the drain because I got immediately tired of him showing up and just crying his eyes out. There's a line between portraying someone as sad and someone as, simply put, pathetic. I wanted to see him grow past his need for Aguilera and move one, we may head to that someday, but I feel at this point it's too little too late.

And now there's this tease of him transforming, of which I already spot may be a red herring. Red belt with a honeycomb cover, not using a dedicated stamp for it, Queen Bee Deadman's suit actress listed as one of the actors (granted Wolf Deadman's is there too but it's much lower ranked). I have no problem with Hana transforming, that would be neat to see. But at the cost of further belittling Tamaki is outright disrespectful.

With Shin Kamen Rider coming next year in Japan what do we think of Kamen Rider The First and Kamen Rider The Next?

I thought The First was an okay movie. Nothing particularly spectacular and their version of Hayato is exactly what you'd expect out of an Inoue-written character around the time of Kabuto, but I think it's a perfectly serviceable reboot and retelling of the original story. There's some beautifully absurd choices like the Shocker Grunts' deaths updating the old cheesy 'bubble bath disappearing' special effects from the original show, and the use of Dr. Shinigami stock footage as the leader of Shocker that I can't help but smile at. I also distinctly remember coming away with it with a need to watch Spiderman 2? It very much belongs in that era of Superhero films! Not something I'd beg you to check out but if you're vaguely interested and have time to burn there's a lot worse you could do with your time.

The Next is the much worse thing you could be doing with your time. That's maybe slightly unfair as I'm a lot more into action, superhero and drama genres than I am those of J-horrors focusing on idols but Inoue's take here doesn't exactly do much to sell me on them, and I certainly get the feeling I'm looking at a particularly bad entry! It's again hard for me to judge but I absolutely could not get into any of its choices beyond a kind-of charming bit of characterisation from Hongou at the start, and Inoue's brand of directing and writing really does not fit this kind of movie. Something I could only ever recommend if, like, you've got OCD and it's bugging you that you've seen The First but not its sequel.

I honestly haven't seen either of these two Kamen Rider films outside of EZ Rider's Toku Time video reviews about them. Kind of wanted to check out Kamen Rider The First at some point though.

I rather like The First, especially the suits. I think it serves as a decent introduction to Kamen Rider and I rather liked alot of the character arcs.

The Next I felt was just okay. Not terrible, but nothing to go nuts over either.

I think they're very much what happens when you tell Toshiki Inoue to remake the first two Rider shows and he doesn't really want to.

The First is okay. I'd even go as far as to say I like it. It has great suits, the action's good, and overall, a pretty good film (even though the one arc with the lovers becoming Shocker monsters didn't really need to be there, but I still appreciate that).

The Next... Not so much. It feels more like a J-Pop horror movie with Kamen Riders than an actual Kamen Rider movie. The suits and action are still good (darn, do I like V3), but that's about the only positive I have on it, since even barring the killer idol plot, it doesn't really feel like a sequel and more of a spinoff, or even just the Riders guest starring.

I'm very interested in Shin (2023, we all remember the real Shin), and look forward to seeing it when it drops, since I hear Shin Ultraman is doing great, even if people are a little mixed on Anno's writing in that one, I hear (still excited for that one).

Honestly, they're both pretty terrible. They are very much of that era of Japanese cinema where they were trying REALLY HARD to capitalize on big Hollywood trends (in this case, gritty superhero films).

But remember: Kamen Rider The Next was so bad that TV-Nihon of all groups put out their own fan edit.

The First was alright. It felt like it was trying to the Batman Begins of Kamen Rider by having a more darker and grounded take on the original show. I find it rather boring and not much happens. I still never seen The Next.

How would Reiwa introduce a new Kamen Rider who's occupation is a firefighter?

We've had cops out of Drive & Accel and doctors out of Ex-Aid.

I don't know, maybe have a dude who's a firefighter and then give him a driver? Doesn't feel like it needs to be more complex than that.

Pretty easily -- when it comes to the numerous cops in Rider and how they handled Ex-Aid's premise, it was basically just a normal cop/medical drama but the culprits are monsters. Which is a solid way to do it given how Rider usually goes!

I would wait until 6+ Reiwa show. I think Season 5 is going to be something big, followed by something a little more relaxed and exploring new lores.
Also, Fourze had a fireman's form.

It seems to me that the problem may be in diversity. I mean, we're going to have fire monsters... even monsters setting fires... how many stories like that can you really come up with? Maybe it's better in this case to take not a firefighter, but a rescuer in general and make a rider version of Lightspeed Rescue.

If they make a new Kamen Rider, what you like to see. I would love a open world game based on the Showa era. It would be like Spider-Man PS4, but with Kamen Rider.

I would say it all depends on tastes. That is, someone does reviews of each episode, someone of the seasons, others focus on the toys, or ratings, or talk about old forgotten shows.

Indeed, something crazy. Desast is especially unexpected. Though perhaps the reason he was added was to finish the Ghost/Saber crossover. That is, "Outsiders" is not just a crossover, but a crossover of crossovers. Crazy but very interesting.

Wait, Kenzan? This is extremely unexpected! Hopefully they do more with his character as I felt he had the most wasted potential in Saber.

I mean, I don't know why they need other Riders when Delta's already there, but on the whole... meh? Not really a grouping of characters that particularly excites me.

I believe they did with Zero-One. Based on how their attempts at Saber and Revice went, though, I wouldn't count on them seeing the Geats ride through to the end.

I'd be totally cool if they just dropped Geats tbh, purely because they're the only people doing Fuuto Tantei so it'd be nice if they just focused on that. I'd like it if I could read all those chapters after the anime finishes

Ditto. I like Genm's work, but Excite has a better track record of actually finishing their projects.

Yeah, I like Excite a lot, but I've been using Gemn Corp for Geats so far because they've been fast and good quality. I might still use their subs until they drop off the face of the earth / become unbearably slow, hopefully switching if that happens won't be too jarring.

I don't know if we'll see a full-fledged return, but I'm sure we'll at least get to see the suit as part of large group action scenes.
