Okay, the design is winning me over now that I'm seeing it in figure form. Definitely sticking true to the grasshopper motif.

I like that the belt looks like it'll be able to unfurl. Hopefully no seizure lights this time.

I'm adoring the manga/SIC look! Very excited for the SHF! Gonna have to pass the belt unfortunately, unless it's unusually cheap for a CSM

Kotaro and Nobuhiko are still "born on the same day" pseudo brothers. Only this time they have conflicting ideologies as opposed to Nobuhiko being brainwashed.

In all seriousness, I really love the design. A nice mix between mechanical and monstrous, which I honestly thought looked like a beefed up V3 when I saw the initial screenshot, but then I saw the Figuart and really got into it. It kind of reminds me of the neo lifeform from ZO if it were more machine, which I like since it fits the cyborg aspect of Kamen Rider. Just goes to show you that while Anno's making a modernized Ichigo, Black Sun's giving us the weird, grotesque design.

Though he does lose some of the original Black's design in some aspects, it's still a really good design, and look even better in action. Also the story and crew sound solid so far. Really looking forward to when we get to see Shadow Moon!

I wish the design was a bit closer to the original suit, but I'm still looking forward to the series.

Ooh, I don't know if I like that new direction. For starters, both actors were born 15 years apart (and they look like it). But namely, part of Nobuhiko and Kotaro's tragedy (in the show at least, I've never read the manga) is that Nobuhiko's humanity was completely erased by Gorgom and that Kotaro's efforts to save him were futile from the start.

I wonder if the whole age difference between the actors mean that they cryogenically froze Nobuhiko after Kotaro got out of Gorgom and lived on. So a reverse Bucky and Steve situation pretty much.

I forgot to add, the way the back of the head is done is just like the manga as well as RX, which is nice.

Really liking the looks of the suit and bike so far. I'm really into the idea of an older actor playing the lead, too.

Oof, I don’t like what I’m seeing. At all. The design looks like a generic SIC-inspired Showa Rider, nothing about this reminds me of Kamen Rider Black. I do like Showa SIC designs, but if the whole point is to remake Kamen Rider Black and the suit looks nothing like Kamen Rider Black then... yeah.

And Battle Hooper – no, just no. They completely massacred my boy. Unforgivable.

I'm gonna give the show a chance for sure, but the designs don't work for me.

A lot of Showa Riders had a pretty similar outline, I'm sure he'll look more distinctly like Black when we see him in color

The thing is that the show is what drastically changed the design. Kamen Rider Black, the manga, as penned by Ishinomori, followed a design principle closer to todays SIC line. The show is what diverged from that design and essentially sanitized it for mass appeal. Black Sun seems like more of a love letter to Ishinomoris original vision, at least as far as the design goes. Being the anniversary and all, it makes sense.

Wish Foreign fans could back Black Sun on its crowdfunding site to get that sweet updated DX Kingstone henshin belt.

It does hit that note a bit better, there's some resemblance to the manga version, but also not really at all? The manga version was just Batta Man IRC, so no belt and helmet.

I don't know, this suit is weird. Looks like an entirely new Rider altogether. I was expecting something more alongside the lines of Amazons I guess.

I've never seen the Manga Black until now. I really was thinking: "his helmet looks kind of like RX." That is a nice detail and callback!

I honestly have no problem with the design, since it makes Black Sun more distinct from the original Black, whose design really does look the perfected Showa Rider design in a way. I'm even more curious to see what they do for the transformation scenes.

All this talk of Manga Black makes me wonder if this is a backdoor attempt to redistribute the Black Manga!

Think about it. The OG Rider Manga by Ishinomori is about to be released in the West officially. Gorenger already got its Western release. Even Transformers got their due. What if the intent is to eventually get to Black as well, with Black Sun being intrinsically connected to those efforts for the sake of recognition and distribution? The Western Public at large knows only so much of Rider, but a new entry meant to reference an old series which has both TV and Manga connections might help with that issue. Recognition & Distribution in this case can refer both to the Japanese Market & the Western Market!

Black Sun looks like an awesome, refined version of the manga version of Black! Love that they're calling Shadow Moon a Rider!

Again, this is more closely based on the manga version of Black, the design of which looked radically different from the series.

Again, thats why i said love letter to ishinomoris design. They took aritisttic liberties to take the design, break it up, and add a bit more modern flair, also helping the design work as a physical suit to work with.

Yea, I fully respect Ishinomori and the impact he's left in Japanese pop culture, but let's not pretend that everything he designed or the choices he made in designing was always great. For god sakes, this is what Cyborg 008 looked like when he drew him. We're lucky that with each succeeding adaptation/remake of Cyborg 008 that we've moved away from this.

That's entirely fair, yea. The quality of the stories really has nothing to do with the quality of designs to begin with. That's on me for not really considering that.

Designs do feed into quality, mind -- but the KR Black manga in particular is often lauded by fans who have read it as the definitive version of Black, nailing the dark tone more than the show did with a more deeply tragic ending. For something so iconic and such a cult classic I can definitely see why they went with homaging that -- and if nothing else, it certainly gives us something more different for our TV screens than a reboot of Black was; and will likely fit the more adult rating more appropriately. I also actually didn't know that's what Black looked like in the manga? It certainly makes me appreciate the Black Sun design far more

Shame for me to hear that Shadow Moon is a Rider now, but maybe that has intention behind it more than just naming any vaguely relevant armoured character a Rider.

Shirakura did say in the event that Shadowmoon (and SHADOWMOON) should be considered riders now because everyone else saw him as a rider anyways, and he has long since kept flip flopping between being one and not being one.

That's pretty dumb, no less because Tackle still isn't considered a Rider. The whole point of the name Kamen Rider within the story is that it's a name Kotaro gives himself; and Golgom straight up still call him Black Sun most of the time
