I generally think most of Kamen Rider's most memorable villains tend to be human or at least have a human form: Doctor Shinigami, Apollo Geist, Shiro Kanzaki, Dr. Maki, Heart, etc. |

So I've been wondering lately...is all the posing in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure inspired by Kamen Rider? Or is posing a fairly common thing in Japanese media? I know the Great Saiyaman in DBZ is a homage/parody of Henshin Heroes, and Ginyu force targets Sentai. What else owes something to Kamen Rider's poses?

I think a lot of basic tokusatsu / shounen / superhero elements like poses, announcing special moves, and implementing forms or transforming to use different skills all basically come from wuxia books and movies from the 1950s and 1960s. Kamen Rider definitely took it a specific extreme, though, and made it its own.
Unrelated question: do I need to watch Kuuga before Agito? I'm still sampling the different Heisei Riders. I know that the two shows are connected somehow but I'm a little hesitant to watch a direct sequel without checking out its predecessor. |
No, it's only a really minor reference. It's not a sequel series.
