I really don't want to see 5 riders in one show. It clogs things up and focus gets shifted too much.

Proto-Drive and Chaser were the same person though, so Drive had three.

There was Gold Drive which makes it four. Does he not count?

And Jun technically existed for like one episode. Even if he didn't do anything.

Ghost has three confirmed, so it's just a matter of seeing whether the remaining 30+ episodes after the third is introduced are new-Rider-free.

That was such an annoying tease. Thought we were going to get our first good Rider Troops, but nooo...

I don't count him, no. He was a villain with a Rider-like form, but not actually a Rider. Drive's Riders were Drive, Chaser, and Mach.

Plus Bannou said himself that he is an evolved Roidmude, not a Kamen Rider- he is part of the promised number, after all.

Here's a quandary I have. Who was the first Rider to have any kind of form change? Be it something so simple as color or weapons. Who started this chain reaction that is still practiced to this day?

Stronger was the first with a super form, but Ichigou had, like, 3 different suits.

Amazon's torso changed color from yellow to red inexplicably around halfway through, so There Is That.

It's weird though, because (from what I remember) it happened after Amazon got a shirt. Once he got the shirt, they had to redo the Henshin sequence, and in the new transformation, Amazon already had red pecs...but it took them a couple of episodes to actually start using the new suit. So he started transforming to red Amazon, but he was still yellow afterwards. They did switch to red fully soon enough, but it was kinda weird for a bit there.

That doesn't have anything to do with anything, it's just a funny weird thing.

It depends on how you look at forms. Ichigo had three suits, Stronger had a power up, and Super-1 had different armaments to equip. So yeah, just really depends on how you look at forms and what not.

Like others have said, Rider 1 technically had his new form that debuted when Fujioka returned to the series full-time (and Rider 2 eventually got his own version of that suit, too). That wasn't something he could change in and out of, though, it was just a better constructed costume. The first Rider with a second form that he could change into and back out of was Stronger with his Charge Up form.

Hmmm......I think what I was wanting to get at was form shifting. Like Wizard's styles, Gaim's Lockseeds, etc..

Black RX, then probably? He had Bio and Robo rider forms.

Yeah, he did. I guess that technically does count since you noted changes like colors and weapons in your original question. Super-1's hands probably did lay the foundation for specialized forms to come in later on, actually...

There has to be a way to make insects collectable so they can justify having a purely insectoid rider again. And I hope they find that way soon.

I think something similar to Kabuto, but with a more universal system like Gaim's belts.
That way they could have a series of insect collectables.

If they could make Padlocks and Eyeballs desirably collectible, they can pull off just about anything really.

They could try the Kabuto route again, but make the bugs smaller and more varied? And..... use more then just insects. Granted a Scorpion is an Arachnid, but y'all can catch my drift right?

I love that idea. Long as this time the Riders don't all exist just to give the main Rider weapons.

I would enjoy something like that. I am actually hoping the 45th Anniversary Rider could be an Insect Rider or some how bring back the Cyborg part back too.

I don't think we'd see cyborgs anytime soon, but insects just might come back~

I could see maybe a secondary or a tertiary rider end up being a cyborg sometime but I don't know if we'll see a Cyborg Main Rider unless it's the 50th Anniversary or something.

Secondary/Tertiary Rider being a cyborg=Chase.

Chase isn't a cyborg; he's an android.

And to be fair the term "cyborg" for the early Kamen Riders has always felt like a misleading translation. Some of them certainly are, like X or Riderman. But the term in Japanese used that is often translated into "cyborg" really just means "modified human." All the monsters Shocker made were tehcnically """"cyborgs"""" even though most were clearly just genetically modified hybrids or something...and the changes made to Takeshi and Hayato, for instance, were never shown (to my knowledge) to be mechanical more than biological. Amazon, for one, was clearly no cyborg but was described with the same term.

So I guess I'm really just arguing semantics. The term is modified human because modified is certainly what those humans were, and indeed, we haven't really seen many of those recently to my knowledge. (I mean, Takeru died, technically that may count as a sort of modification, and he's obviously not exactly human anymore. Do we count him?) There's also like Blade or Gaim, as both also stopped being human and became something else. Different methods than the ol' surgery but it's...something.

I think that would be Kamen Rider Stronger.

The original two Riders had multiple costumes but no straight up form changes.

But the one you should really look to is 90s Ultraman. Kuuga and with that any other Heisei Show was more trying to copy what those shows did with Form changes.

If I remember correctly, insects were on the short list for themes when Toei and Bandai were developing Gaim.

Yeah that and Birds where two of the ones they wanted to use. Then they went with Fruits.

What if Ryugen & Zangetsu/Shin had their own bikes instead of borrowing the Sakura Hurricane & Rose Attacker.

I can imagine an Orchid for Ryugen & a Lotus for Zangetsu. They can be their signature flowers.

Did Zangetsu ever even ride any bike? I don't remember him doing so...

Outside of Battride War 2, no, but then again everyone could get access to the standard 2 bikes, since they were made by Yggdrasil. Zangetsu just didn't need one because he had a direct portal to Helheim, and he's rich enough to have people drive him to where he needs to be in the city.

But you know what I'm getting at.

So, I've been wondering about where to start with Kamen Rider. I know that there have been two short-lived attempts at bringing it into English (the Saban series and the more recent Dragon Knight), but I'm not sure if either are any good. Still, I'm just as happy watching the originals anyway, so I'd love to hear some opinions.
