Is it just me, or do the floating jackets in Ghost seem more effective at fighting than the Riders wearing them?

Yup, because they're powered by the "Fly into battle, bash against the nearest enemies, give the Rider free space to transform"-system, also known as Fang.

Because I'm pretty sure the Fang memory from W started this trend. No matter how strong the enemy, they will be knocked back once the henshin device or part of the armor enters the scene.

And of course one enemy will later show off his strengh by being able to slap it away instead of getting knocked back.

It's a well known trope in post-Decade shows that usually isn't that noticeable until a show goes overboard with it which is exactly what Ghost is doing.

Not specifically something I've thought of, but yeah, I can see how that would be a thing. The Riders in Ghost don't always appear that capable.

I feel like a recurring theme with Ghost (well, maybe not only Ghost, but still, Ghost) is that the characters seem to have the level of strength and the abilities the plot demands of them at that particular moment, as opposed to anything consistent.

Like, why does Specter have superspeed in episode 4 and at no other time. I dunno. Who knows.

The whole ghostly theme also went down the drain after the first 10 episodes or so. You know, ghosts can fly, walk through walls and stuff. I guess they did this early when they had the budget for it, but it still sucks that Ghost is your everyday Rider without a real theme now. Because changing forms is not a theme, but that's all he does nowadays.

Now the Ganma block his powers when he does decide to use them, and the freaking spider lantern which makes every ghost visible is also at the scene everytime.

The one time where he actually was kinda ghostly was when he appeared in Drive. I wish they would've rolled with that concept instead.

This. Specter was an incredible fighter when he first showed up. Then Ghost basically just wills himself into being strong enough to face him fairly. Soon after, Specter becomes completely useless while Ghost just keeps getting stronger. Then Ghost gets the new red suit and completely crushes Jabel, but next episode he gets beat by an ordinary MOTW. Necrom shows up and can easily handle both Ghost and Specter on his own, but then he'll one-on-one one of them and they'll do pretty well. I don't know if it's still a thing (I'm about 10 episodes behind) but that's probably my biggest issue with Ghost - inconsistency.

This as well. I really loved the paranormal aspects of the beginning of the series and was bummed when I noticed they disappeared.

Kamen Rider Ghost hasn't had any insert songs lately. Will they ever do? I can imagine the song sung by Takeru, Makoto & Alain.

So is Wizard even worth watching? I've been addicted to the theme song lately and I love the suit designs. I've heard it gets really slow in the middle though?

I like it.

But then again, I appear to like a lot of shows that aren't well received.

The first quarter of the show is good, the last 10 episodes are "Eh" to alright, depending on who you ask.
But get ready for a slog during the middle.

I think it's a good show, personally. The suits and fights are definitely good, anyway.

It's not worth watching IMO, but it's definitely worth checking out for yourself to see if your opinion differs from mine :)

It's not the best Rider show out there, but not the worst. The fights are usually pretty good, though, and Haruto is one of my favorite modern Riders.

I would avoid Wizard, but I also think it's the worst Kamen Rider show and it would take something really, really bad to beat it out. I felt a lot of the characters were flat and for as grand a story as it had on paper, it moved at a snail's pace and by the time things started happening, you were already towards the end of the series. It felt very phoned in, more than any Rider show I've ever seen.

Like, I dislike Drive and even I thought that show was good in stretches.

Personally speaking, Wizard was only good for the aesthetics and action. The suits were beautiful, some of my favorite in Rider, and the action was great, very flowery, not something you get often with Rider.

I'd give Wizard a try, and make your own opinions. It was the first rider show I watched, and I've still got some fond memories of some of the episodes. Like Magical Girl Beast :p

Magical Girl Beast never fails to make me laugh. It's a testament to how wonderful Nitoh was.

Too bad I expected more on Wizard. Speaking of which, how would rewrite Wizard to make it one of the best KR series to watch?

What I see it?

- Wizard fights like Dante. If there was someone named "Warlock", he'd fight like Vergil. Beast was disappointing like he doesn't know what he's dealing with. The Wizard Dragon powers - Blizzard, Thunder & Gravity. I'd give it to "Warlock". That way, if Wizard Dragon is used, he'd share them from that mage.

- The Phantom generals? They could've at least more than just Phoenix, Medusa & Gremlin.

- Haruto? He'd be a traveling magician with Koyomi as his assistant, traveling the world saving people from despair. While there are some he was unable to save.

- Rinko? If she'd be more useful, she'd be given silver bullets by Haruto to protect herself.

- Beast Hyper was the worst. Why couldn't have just absorbed Phoenix after Wizard defeated him instead of throwing him into the sun.

Wizard is decent I think. The story is a mess and the characters don't DO much but I find the cast enjoyable and many of the concepts interesting, like Phantoms and the variety of Wizard Rings.

Sounds like Ninninger, which I actually did enjoy.

Wizard is one of the more special effects laden KR series around, by the by, so take that as you will.
When Haruto delivers his flipping rider kick, it's awesome, but when he uses any dragon power, be prepared for a CG fest.

Out of Kamen Rider show, Which one have the GREAT COMEDY? just says you want to watch a COMEDY Kamen Rider show. If so which one? Remember which one that doesn't involve an old man doing a weird face and talk weird like Chief Honganji and the show have to have comedy every episode! Not just a single character like that a crazy monk buffoon Onari!

Are you excited for Kamen Rider Heart movie?

This is a road to redemption for Heart who spent most of his time as a villain and now this is his chance to redeem himself!

It say both Mach and Heart movie will take place 2 years after Drive's finale! It seem Heart will be revived somehow because Heart's movie will have a human that Medic based on! Misuzu Hatori! It doesn't make sense if it take place in flashback because by the time Misuzu reunited with her dog, Medic become brainwashed by BANNO and Heart was forced to be his henchman!

So what does this have to do with Misuzu woman?

I think they just mean in the sense of the vampire aesthetic being re-used the same way the Amazon aesthetic was re-used.

Which brings me to my question - I've heard Kiva is horror-influenced (makes sense, since vampires). Are there any other Rider series that have that sort of theme?

Well... not really as a theme, but Kamen Rider Black for example is very much like a horror movie early on. And it does tackle some classic horror setups, like a train vanishing in a tunnel, a small village being controlled by a demon, a kid who's school class is turned evil but no one but him notices and so on and so forth. Later in the series when it starts being the "Japanese Children Adventure Show featuring Kamen Rider Black" they tone it down a lot but in the first dozen of episodes? Shit's real.

And then there's Kamen Rider Shin which is basically "What if Kamen Rider was a horror movie?". It's rather bizarre.

I got a similar vibe from some of the earlier episodes of the first Kamen Rider series and I dug it. Maybe i'll have to check out black soon.

I'm not sure how I feel about Shin, since I really don't like the suit. I do, however, like J horror. Is it at least good?

Yeah Black is kinda like that, you can compare it to the episode with the Bat mutant where Hongo investigates and stuff and the Bat does rather scary stuff to people, Black reminded me a lot of episodes like these. I haven’t watched much Showa but neither V3 nor Amazon was like that early on so I guess it’s not that common.

Shin… it’s different to explain. It’s kinda like the Fly in a sense, but then there’s the Killer Cyborg and stuff… it’s weird. I wouldn’t call it a good movie, but it’s interesting to see because of what it is. I think it’s better than The First & The Next, but I still don’t feel like I ever want to rewatch it.

Kiva was based on vampires, while Ghost was based on well... "ghosts/spirits". If they do another horror theme for the next rider series, will they bring back the vampire-werewolf-monster concept to make up for Kiva?

Those were definitely my favorite episodes of the first Rider so Black definitely sounds good too. I've also heard a lot about how awesome Shadow Moon is, so there's that too.

I'd totally be down, since I love horror-esque themes and am loving Ghost, but I really doubt they'd do two similar themes in a row.

Yeah Shadow Moon's great. Easily one of my favorite antagonists in all of Kamen Rider. The build-up to his awakening is a bit of a drag but it’s worth it. Not only does he make for a much better Golgom leader than the High Priests but the scenes where he meets Kotaro and/or the supporting cast are all really good.

There's a negative thing to his awakening that I won't spoil, an element I really like leaves the show but Shadow Moon makes up for it.

Yup, the "Henshin"-scene is especially gruesome. For that one alone you should probably check it out someday.

Kamen Rider Shin could have been awesome if it was not so boring to watch. I try to watch it a few years ago and it was hard to stay awake. The only good things about it is the special effects. It was like Kamen Rider meets Baoh, but I feel like it was wasted potential. With a stronger plot and more action scenes, it could have been awesome.

Unfortunately, Shin Kamen Rider just couldn't find a good balance. The themes it aimed for worked, but they were poorly executed, while the fight scenes are just a drag to watch, since they wanted to keep a battle between an ice man and a bug man grounded in reality for whatever reason, so it was just a basic punch out.

Shin's desire to be Kamen Rider for a more adult crowd could have worked if someone on production raised their hand and said "Any adult that wants to watch a Kamen Rider movie is doing so because they want to see a Kamen Rider. Not a love drama with 20 minutes of The Fly woven in."

The Baron Fang episodes of V3 have a lot of horror elements to them.
